Premier League beware. This is my weekly Forestpost. We'll have spent over 100 million by the time the season starts. We're coming for you lot. Buying young, good quality players should hopefully pay off anyway. Neco Williams is a great signing, and he'll play with Brennan Johnson, his Wales team mate on the right.

Looking very much forward to Forest's performance in the PL! I like their purchases

They’ve done well so far, Cooper is a huge asset too.
There doesn’t seem to be a designated whipping boy this season, although I think a lot depends on how well Leeds and maybe even Brighton recruit replacements for various raids on them.
I wonder if Forest’s recruitment is with the mentality to have a good crack at the Prem, but worst case drop down again with a lot of good young players who can handle a season going for promotion back up.
Seems a win/win to me, I think they’re capable of doing well in the top division, but there’s some long-term squad building there. As opposed to other teams who bet the farm on short term signings who leave as soon as relegation is confirmed.
Looking forward to seeing Forest back up there

I'm so excited! The recruitment has been far beyond what any of the fans expected so far. Cooper is by far our biggest asset. All of the players who have arrived this summer have said it was the conversation with Cooper that persuaded them. He's got potential to be one of the absolute top British managers imo. The turnaround he managed last season was insane.

United just beat Liverpool 4-0! Liverpool subbed their entire team after 32 minutes and again after 61 minutes though lol. (United only subbing entire team in the half time.)
|
nice to know that the team can still score goals. the bonus was our 4th goal coming from our reserves against many of their first team.

Why would you give 10 players "game time" to get fit when they are never going to make the 23 man premier league squad.
Surely you get your 23 man squad fit by giving them 90% of the minutes shared and then the kids get 10-20-30 minutes here and there individually rather than playing for 30 minutes in one game with eachother and get "beaten" by a yanited side.
Makes no sense to me but of course i am not a premier league manager lol.

saw the highlights, 4-0 was very lucky for manu with the chances liverpool had

Fabrizio Romano reporting that Barca have agreed 55m pound with Leeds for Raphinha. Surely Barca must be getting close to the financial limit?
|
I think the Raphinha transfer is a bad idea. The club has a huge debt, still needs defenders (and maybe a central forward). It seems expensive for a player from an almost relegated Leeds.

Preseason matches are useless for results xD
In 2019 Atletico scored a 5-0 against Madrid in preseason with Costa and the recently signed Joao Felix scoring goals and everyone was hyping them. That season Real Madrid won the league, Atletico had a terrible season with Costa falling big and Felix injured all the time.

how is it possible for a barca to owe players millions in wages yet are somehow allowed to sanction transfers with fees upwards of 50mil? they can pay for raphinha/lewandowski transfers but wont pay de jong his 17m in deferred wages? thats fked up. the only way for these financial rules to make sense would be to prioritise wage agreements and if need be barca resort to signing players like andreas pereira for 10m as a consequence of their poor financial management
|
Because they deferred the wages over multiple years. That was the whole point. It's not a debt that they have to pay back as soon as they're able. He'll receive the money when it's due. They can sign players because they've sold part of their TV rights (a quarter in total iirc).
|
as far as i know if de jong is sold then his deferred wages become payable immediately, and barca is refusing to pay his outstanding wages and is actually asking for de jong to stay and agree to further reductions. all the meanwhile theyre paying millions for high profile transfers. the news is de jong doesnt want another salary reduction but barca wont pay his deferred wages if he is transferred. barca however needs de jong to be transferred if he doesnt agree to a reduction because their wage bill is too high. so either de jong agrees to a salary cut and stays like he wants, or he leaves without receiving his deferred wages (unless he takes some court action in spain i guess). either scenario leads to barca not honoring their prior wage agreement but can justify spending cash on transfers. that seems fucked up

It funny cuz Fabrizo tweeted today that he has no idea how barca have this money and on the face value of what people know (on the finances) they shouldn't be able to do this lol!

I wonder how Fabrizio manages to do what he does. Nearly everything he says is accurate and it's nearly always before everyone else. He appears to have better sources than the majority of the rest of football media combined. He must be omniscient or something!
On topic, surely Barca are bending rules somewhere. They are just kicking the can down the road and will be properly fucked at a later date

Think the reason why he looks like he is "on point" with his news right now is because he is so popular. Naturally local journalists to clubs for example in the premier league there is basically a football writer specifically for each club, these guys have sources. However when this stretches out to not so big clubs then when the likes of Fabrizo tweets it after the other guys, he looks like he the one in the know.
Outside of Italy i don't think Fabrizio is as good as he looks due to the following he has. However if you want to follow just "one guy" for footy transfer news you can't argue at not following him (for european wide transfers)

He’s actually less accurate than me in terms of transfer talk, I just don’t make a song and dance about it.
Ok but in seriousness, Barca’s business is silly. They could stabilise, make the odd savvy deal and be a lock for the CL.
Given how the accounts work and whatnot they can do what they’re currently doing, but given how close they were to the precipice it seems I’ll advised to say the least.

They did not agree to the deferral becoming payable when he gets transferred and that's why they prefer to sell. De Jong doesn't want this obviously. But it's all speculation since we don't have the contract and we don't know the details of the deferral. Barca wants to reduce his wages but if De Jong doesn't agree they can't do much. I don't think it's necessary anymore to lower them since they sold the TV rights. It's like 300 million in total and revenue from other activities should be recovering as well.
Romano is good on transfers but I wouldn't take his opinion on Barca's financial situation seriously. Football journalists know little about finance and it shows. A lot of articles concerning the financials of football clubs are trash.

A lot of articles concerning the financials of football clubs are trash. it wouldnt make much sense commercially for the deferred wages to not be payable if a transfer took place though. that would mean de jong would be agreeing to a waiver of the entire deferred portion for a transfer that he doesnt even want. theres no way the terms of the deferral is such that he isnt entitled to it should he be transferred, especially in a scenario if the club is the one forcing him out. id say theres a possibility that he waives his entitlement to the deferrals if de jong requests the transfer, but so far this saga has shown that this isnt the case. and although the official stance of barca is "we want de jong to stay", the reports are that de jongs wages are unsustainable for barca. if your player refuses to alter the terms of the original contract then the club should have no choice but to honor it. thats simple contract law in most countries and i doubt spain would be any different. barca currently seems to be doing everything they can to dishonor the agreement instead of dipping into their transfer budget to solve the issue. and for what its worth, fabrizio romano isnt the only one reporting on this transfer situation or barca's financials as a whole. it seems like multiple reports are coming out saying pretty similar stuff, though i dont know if theyre all independent sources or if theyre just spreading the same news around
