And we get to see a more experienced Albon now Perhaps not due to money, by the looks of it. Statement from RBR re: Albon's status: "We have released Alex to become a Williams Racing driver in 2022 but retain a relationship with him that includes future options." Difficult to know exactly what that entails, but seems on the surface of it that Albon is no longer a RB-associated driver

They let him go probably because Mercedes required it for the deal to go through, which makes sense as Mercedes has not only an engine deal but a brand sponsorship deal with Williams. I would guess Red Bull wanted to keep ties with Albon for a potential return to Alpha Tauri in the future. If Gasly gets promoted to Red Bull and Perez is let go in the next year or two, Alpha Tauri is going to need someone to lead the team, and if Gasly is still blocked from the senior team then he's probably looking at other teams. Tsunoda being in F1 after next year is also a big question mark depending on his performance next year. He's backed by Honda, and that backing will be gone after next year when Honda are 100% out. I'm glad Albon is getting a second chance. It's been interesting to watch people re-evaluate his performances in 2019 and 2020 over the last few weeks. In the F1 website article on Albon's signing, they mentioned that George Russell was reportedly campaigning from within Williams for Alex to get the seat. Apparently a lot of drivers view the Williams seats as valuable right now in a way they haven't been in a while since it appears Williams is on an upward trajectory now due to their big infusion of money and new ownership. I've seen a few comparisons with McLaren going around where both teams got a bunch of new money, an all-new leadership team that isn't stuck in old ways and promote a team culture that is much more productive and healthy to work in. Williams' current team principal has been hugely successful in the WRC, a lot like Andreas Seidl in WEC.

Want to point out again that AlphaTauri is no longer considered a second or junior team for Red Bull. Both teams have equal budget (due to the budget cap), and are considered sister teams. It's not unlikely that AT will start competing with RB in the future. Especially from next year on, when both teams starts from equal ground. Gasly might just do better staying in Alpha Tauri than trying to get into RB

IIRC every team except Williams and Haas were at or over the budget cap. Mclaren was ~2x that, and Merc/RB/Ferrari ~3x.

I don't know exactly what ATs previous budget was, but RBs previous budget was more than 2x the current budget cap. They easily have enough to max out both teams, and still have a lower budget overall than they used to

It's like how people kept calling Racing Point "Force India" out of habit, I keep thinking of Red Bull as the senior team.

Monza Q is still fucked. FIA needs to tighten the outlap timings or change some rules before an accident happens As a Kubica fan, it sucks seeing him being off the pace Weee some poor mechanic is getting whacked by a car sooner or later... So many close shaves in Q2 Bottas gets pole albeit with a new engine

There's no big name drivers left and Vettel's already beating Stroll. I guess Hulkenberg? I doubt he's an upgrade from Vettel, though he may be a lot cheaper. Hulkenberg also just said he isn't in talks for a 2022 seat with any teams. I saw a rumour Vettel was going to be replaced by Alonso a few weeks back, but that rumour was published a couple days before Alonso announced he was staying at Alpine. I've seen statements from both the team and Vettel say they are happy in the last week.

Well I never heard the rumors about Alonso; but italian TV showed an interview of vettel, alluding to “talks about not renewing his contract” , and talks with Aston Martin, alluding to not being happy with his way; it is possible that this is all un’eccessiva hyping up, but there seemed to be a lot of momentum around that; hope for him that he stays, dunno honestly what is really going on, except there rumors

They are both very happy atm, so unless it's Hamilton breaking contract with Mercedes to come drive for AM, I don't see it happening.
