I'm more upset that Leclerc accepted mediocrity and signed a long term contract with this clown fiesta. Lewis is well into the hundreds of millions in net worth, with no children. Money or influence is not really an issue for him, the biggest/richest events and people on the planet want him, not the other way around. I wouldn't doubt that his contract is expensive, but that wouldn't have been the reason. Merc definitely would've matched whatever Ferrari was offering.
Merc almost certainly have another stinker of a car. Lewis, like Alonso will have a seat on the grid as long as they want one.
That being said, that's probably the single most expensive driver pairing ever for an F1 team. Would not be surprised if they have a championship contending car that they spend over 100M on drivers alone once they pay out the performance bonuses.

Well, that's unexpected. Looks like Hamilton isn't all that impressed by the W15.
This is great though; We'll get to see how 2 big names compare to each other. Even if no one catches up to Red Bull before the big regulation changes in '26 we'll at least have something to look forward to for '25. Can't wait.

Really Brave move from Hamilton, going to Leclerc's Team, big change in culture no guarantee of success.
Only thing tougher would be going to Red Bull to fight Max in his environment.
I really hope this works, if Hamilton can get that 8th and end the Ferrari title drought he will be the undisputed GOAT.
No one has won championships with 3 different teams since Fangio in the 50s, and brining the title back to Ferrari after their longest period without one to top it off. Would be amazing so fingers crossed.

how long is he going to race though? he'll be 40 by the time he joins ferrari and given the modern rigors of the sport i can't think of anyone besides michael schumacher and fernando alonso that have raced past that age?

Alonso's still one of the most highly rated drivers on the grid despite his age. I don't think Hamilton's slowed down much despite falling down the grid a little. Leclerc is a qualifying monster so we'll get to see where Hamilton slots in relative to him. It's a good deal for every fan of the sport that enjoys driver power rankings.

Well apparently they are gonna be paying him 100m a year. Guess we know why he’s going there now

It's probably a combination of the money and also likely low expectations of the W15.

I think Ferrari would happily pay 200m for a driver's championship, no questions asked. As much as Leclerc is a qualifying god, he also makes far too many mistakes in tight situations.
Could end up being a huge loss for Merc long term as well if they're willing to have Hamilton be a Ferrari ambassador. More than anybody on the grid, Hamilton has worth far beyond just his skill as a driver.

Rumours has it at 410 million (not all paid directly. Some apparantly through helping out with some of Lewis' projects) for a 3 year contract + 10 years as ambassador. Seems like a pretty good deal indeed, especially when Toto only offered 1+1 years, leaving Lewis potentially without a drive after 2025

Money won't be a factor for Lewis at all, he clearly wants a change for whatever reason. I thought he was crazy to leave McLaren but I couldn't have been more wrong, at 40 though its a tough gig jumping into Charles' back yard.
Seems Horner has been a naughty boy too, lots of drama in this preseason.

Marko not giving comments on German media. This looks serious.
In other unrelated news, chainbears seems to be back. I am looking forward to his analysis on the 2024 season.

I want off Mr. F1's wild ride this offseason. This offseason has been too dank.

The last week though, if drama was a drink we'd all be dead of alcohol poisoning by now.

True, most of it was recent but we did have the Wolf conflict of interests accusation earlier in the season as well.

May I propose a rule change for 2025? "Painted upper bodywork is mandatory"

Weight limits unfortunately. Paint is probably an extra kilo or two if they paint the upper half of the car, and it's the worst place to have it for center of gravity purposes.
