Aston's performance appears to be legit. Even an injured Stroll was making moves. Good for them. It looks like Williams might genuinely be like sixth or seventh fastest at this type of track? Albon said they were expecting to be at the back and their testing data suggested they were the ninth or tenth fastest team. With both drivers ending up near the top of the midfield on merit, it does seem like even they underestimated their performance. McLaren was a disaster. I think we talked about this several times last year but the team has been a mess operationally for a while now but the media focus has always been on the drivers, which ignored that Norris' and especially Ricciardo's side of the garage had a whole bunch of mechanical and operational problems in running their cars last year. At least once every few races, Ricciardo would miss out in competing in a qualifying session or be sent out without enough time to actually prepare for a lap because of preventable car issues. So far it doesn't look like the cause of these issues have been fixed. McLaren could have the best drivers in the world but if they keep making mistakes assembling and running their cars then they'll never progress. They better hope that their car developments work or they will be in for a rough year. What can you even say about Ferrari? They won't be challenging Red Bull for the championship this year so Red Bull by default probably wins easily unless Mercedes or Aston manage a huge performance boost from development. | ||

who knew red bull has 3 cars on the podium after the first race Helmut Marko affirms, on Sky Sports Germany, that several engineers left Red Bull for Aston Martin in the company of Dan Fallows! "It seems they all have a good memory." | ||

I think there's a chance that Alonso can pip Perez for P2, which would be amazing. The field is extremely close this race. Less than a second from P4 to P20. Will really see which drivers are better than others with how tight it all is. Can't wait for Austria, where the whole grid is likely to all be within a second. | ||
