E: Not quite but front row is nice. Pity for Max but this surely makes the race more interesting.

It won't be very hard, but at least he will be forced to do some overtakes. Something that will be very rare this season.

Moderately entertaining race I guess. Kinda sad that Stroll had the retirement, although his safety car closed up the pack which got us a bit more action.

Stroll seemed on pace for fourth had he not DNFed, which would have possibly meant the entire top 10 was just each team's cars paired up. McLaren can't be happy. Their car looked bad even accounting for both drivers losing front wings on the first lap. Even with DRS, they were struggling to keep pace with cars that didn't have DRS on straights. Their car last year had big issues with drag and it seems those issues have persisted into this year's car too. They seem okay in qualifying but then during the race their pace disappears. Hopefully their Baku upgrade gives them some extra performance or they're in for a miserable season. I'm happy for Perez. I was concerned Verstappen would catch him and cruise past but Perez actually held his own and kept pace well. That penalty against Alonso was silly. Like yes, Aston did deserve it but the stewards need to be better about catching that stuff a lot quicker during the race. We've had so many races in the last year or so where penalties are given and applied after the race, which robs us of seeing how the penalty being given during the race would have affected it. We could have seen Alonso fight through the field, which would have been fun.

Both drivers got the same time targets. Max decided on his own to go for fastest lap, and did it on the last lap so Perez couldn't respond. Pretty clever in my opinion

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_Formula_One_World_Championship#World_Drivers'_Championship_standings Rosberg still had to win 9 races, get lucky with an extra DNF from Lewis, and do pretty well in the other races to win the championship. Lewis got 10 wins that season. I don't think Max is in the business of going even in wins with Checo, there's basically no chance for him if the Red Bull is reasonably reliable.

It has emerged that some parts used in the wind tunnel (the scale models) were inaccurate and went beyond the necessary parameters. These problems have not only affected the development of the W14, such as the delays we reported during the winter, but also in terms of correlation. Subsequently, some of those who worked in this area have been dismissed. Basically someone fudged the QC on the scale models. At Mercedes level, they should have digital CMM tools which would allow a user to perform dimensional checks to single digit microns. There's basically no reason the parts would pass unless the user deliberately signed off on faulty parts. The only other mistakes are improper mechanical property matching between the scale model and the real thing. Again Merc has the facilities to properly perform the calculations. I don't expect Merc to recover this year from something like this though. They may put processes in place immediately, but all their correlation data and design work from the last while, including current updates is completely invalid.

I actually think they have one of if not the best driver line up on the grid too. They need to seriously improve to keep them both. It is sad, and a little bit ridiculous; with Lando and Oscar, they should have been the Aston Martin of 2023; they have the same engine as well; maybe, having Lawrence stroll, and Fernando Alonso, was the deciding factor; money and experience beat pure raw young talent, apperently
