That has to be close to the best result for Haas since like 2016? Zhou got a point on his first race. Double points for Alfa is wild.

Ah that sounds right. I knew Haas had a 6th place on their debut and I couldn’t remember if they’d ever got above 6th before.

Mick was just outside the points so that bodes well for him. He’ll get points soon enough.

Race weekend is upon us , everyone place your best for quay to 5 and race top 5 , no pain no gain !! I feel RB would have the strongest package going in.

Qualy : Race :
1) Max 1) Max
2) Charles 2) Charles
3) Sainz 3) Perez
4) Perez 4) Sainz
5) Lewis 5) Russell (due to Lewis going for strange strategy).

Although I do expect accidents they might be at the back more so then at the front (similar to last year) , but excited to see how Ferrari would do and if they bring any updates as they are running the same car (or similar) to the Barcelona spec.

I’m watching FP2 now. That Mercedes looks miserable to drive. The bouncing is horrendous with that car this weekend. The Ferrari still bounces a bit but only near the ends of straights. With the Mercedes it is almost constant and even happens through high speed corners, which seems bordering on dangerous.

McLaren is looking massively better this weekend. Not top 4 but probably 5th or 6th fastest now.

edit: yeah that explosion story is crazy. Verstappen apparently radioed in asking if something in his car was burning but they had to tell him that the burning smell wasn’t related to him.

More on-board shots with McLaren seem to indicate far less understeer compared to last weekend. Ricciardo’s fast lap got ruined by traffic but Norris got to 7th on softs.

There's a non-zero chance the race is about to be cancelled. The team principals (some of them reluctantly) agreed to continue with the race but the drivers are possibly going to refuse. There was a drivers meeting after FP2 that is still going on and has been for an hour and a half. It sounds like they have some pretty obvious safety concerns regarding the race given the missile strike on the nearby oil refinery. The F1 leadership team (Brawn, Domenicali, etc.) were at this meeting but left.

This very much has Australia 2020 vibes where the teams were initially going to continue with racing but after a McLaren mechanic got COVID, Seb and Kimi were spotted at the airport leaving the country a few hours later despite organizers not officially cancelling the race. With no drivers they can't hold the race.

edit: Apparently team principals are now joining this driver meeting.

double edit: Four hours of meetings later, it sounds like they are in fact continuing with the race. The drivers were all up well into the night at this meeting.
