Maybe a new manager with a new approach can turn around this season for Gladbach (obviously the Champions Leagues is too much for them anyway). Their players aren't THAT bad. I really enjoyed Gladbach being part of the top flight in the Bundesliga, I'd hate it, if that would end now, given their rich history. Maybe not many people outside of Germany remember it, but they were actually one of the European top teams in the 70s.

Other candidates listed here are Mourinho (was surely going to Chelsea), Ancelotti (at Real), Guardiola (signed at Bayern) and Klopp (not leaving Dortmund).

He demanded he was paid more than the players, no player at Yanited was paid more than Alex Ferguson, meaning he was on as a manager £250,000 a week xD

He picks the team and prepares them it is still down to the players isnt it xD same team - different manager: one wins record amount of titles, the others win nothing SAF definitely deserved to get paid more than a single player

And clearly its turned out, he was by far the most valuable asset to that club. For better or for worse.

He proved this when he first joined Yanited and it took him a while to get his philosophy across, it does to all managers imo. It takes time to implement your footprint onto the team. Messi doesn't need that, he just needs the ball at his feet per se.

I dont think players are worth £250,000 a week but if they are on that money its because they are extremely valuable. If Messi goes into "x" team he scores goals and wins them matches yes? If Fergie goes into "x" team does he win them games? I don't think so. I think your having a hard time understanding the point. It doesnt matter what Fergie would do in any other team, he didnt get paid that much by "any other team" he was paid that by much to United because he made United what it was. Plenty of players came and went during United's success the only consistent factor was Fergie. So he was clearly Uniteds most valuable asset. No one is saying that if SAF went to Chelsea he should be the highest paid person there, because to Chelsea he wouldnt have the same value. Your parameters as usual are all over the place. Sure managers in general are not worth more than players, because as you said they dont score goals or actually even play, they dont put their body's on the line .. etc etc etc. I dont think you will find anyone here who doesnt appreciate that sort of logic. Thats footie 101. But I will repeat it again. Its not about who does what. Its about value to the club.

Staying so long at a club and being succesful is really impressive but of course he'll stay longer than players since except for a few players their careers simply aren't that long. If Messi could've played till he was 80 I'm sure he'd stay at Barca as well.
