Legia Warsaw are under investigation after they brought a suspended player on for the last few minutes of their CL third qualifying round tie against Celtic.
I don't see why all the blame is being placed on the club. Shouldn't the fourth official, or whoever is in charge of this, look at the lineup sheet before the game and check to make sure everyone on it is eligible to play?

hope they go with the fine route and not kicking them out, would be so stupid as the player clearly had absolutely no impact and no chance at having any impact.

The agent of Paris Saint-Germain's Uruguay striker Edinson Cavani has been quoted as saying that both Liverpool and Arsenal have made enquiries about his client. A transfer to the Premier League still appears an outside bet, as the 27-year-old is on huge wages at the Parc des Princes and cost £53million when he moved from Napoli last summer. Claudio Annellucci told the Daily Mirror:
I can confirm that Cavani has heard proposals from Liverpool and Arsenal. He would love to play in England.
Cavani would make Arsenal favorite to win PL, he is that good.

Pretty unrealistic since he is barely above avarage and will be overpriced and it looks like Di Maria will not go to PSG because he is too expensive.

Seeing as how Milan was convicted of match-fixing the previous season and was docked points for the previous and upcoming season you would think it was an open and shut case... Well Milan went on to win the CL that season.
Anyway, the moral of the story is: Fuck UEFA. Seriously, fuck those guys.

On the bright side it means no Legia "supporters" in CL, so stuff like throwing flares/firecrackers on the field or fights during the match are way less likely this season.

edit: So Celtic goes through even though they lost both matches and ended up 6:1? What a joke.

I guess they should direct their anger at their manager for making the world’s stupidest substitution rather than UEFA. It stinks though.
edit: I tell you what the Celtic fans are going to go mental at thier new manager if they play that badly again and just get knocked out at the next stage.

That's what I would expect to happen since the beginning of UEFA's existence but apparently they don't (or they made a mistake). Don't understand me wrong Legia totally deserved advancing. I don't know the official ruleset for pre-game preparations so I'd prefer not to comment on what the best action would be.

Apparently because UEFA saw that he wasn't registered for the two games against Patrick apparently that means he didn't sit out 2 games according to UEFA.

"wrong person" doesnt mean, you are out but a 3:0 loss. Legia vs Celtic 4:4, but Celtic scored more away goals.

What does registering mean in that context? Does anybody know about the technicalities? I mean no banned player is ever in the official roster for that game but somewhere in the stands to watch the match.

It means that Legia didn't play football manager. You need to register your players for European matches, non registered players do not sit out their ban if they aren't registered because in technical terms that would mean a club wouldn't be punished because they still have access to 25 players.
I really feel for Legia though, because in actual terms the player wasn't allowed to play so he didn't play. Without the dumb bureaucracy, people would just say he sat out his suspension. It's a dumb technicality to get thrown out of Europe for. Not to mention Legia really handed Celtic a beatdown, Uefa really should be more flexible here.

Well, he got the 3 match ban on their last European match last season. Since then Legia have played 3 matches in Europe, I mean it is entirely plausible that no one had any idea they would get punished if he played. I know we are getting into murky waters here but at the end of the day he didn't play 3 games.
They beat Celtic hard in both games and they were supposed to be the first Polish club to get into the Champions League in 18 years. Ok fine them, but I highly doubt they would put in an illegible player on purpose after they had the match in the bag.

There was already precedent as shown in Ferrose's post, to give a fine for a substitution which was clearly meaningless. In 2010 Debrecen fielded an illegible player for the last minutes of a match where they were leading 4-1 on aggregate, and were fined £15,000.
This game, it was the final 2 minutes of a match where Legia was leading 6-1 on aggregate. Judgments that are so heavily fixated on the letter of the law as not to take into account that there's just no way there was any malicious intent whatsoever.. they suck.
I think you can even state that "if there's any doubt whatsoever whether the team stood to benefit from it then the team is automatically disqualified", but there just is no doubt whatsoever.
