If the Cavs mysteriously trade the #1 in the coming days for say Love then I'd bank on LeBron heading back to Ohio.

It's basically the 12th and Afflalo for free, if you buy the fact that they were always planning to take Embiid and were baiting other GMs for free stuff.

It's too risky to take on embiid if it means passing on parker/wigg or even Exum. Cavs can't afford to whiff like last year. Only way id trade that pick is for a proven young star.

Maybe he has enough money stacked away that he will go for rings over cash. But he is already on the decline and if the Heat were to make moves JUST on what would make the team better, I don't know that the Heat would even bring back Wade if he opted out. And there is no way he gets another contract from anyone comparable to what opting in would give him. Lebron said he isn't taking a pay cut just so the Heat can avoid the luxury tax penalty, but the Heat would be 4th year offenders if they do what he wants and the cost will be insane. Certainly their owner could afford to do it if he doesn't mind losing millions for his entertainment, but it's a cost that would continue to rise. They weren't willing to pay it this year to keep Mike Miller against Lebron's wishes. If the Heat aren't willing to take a big loss in luxury tax then the chances of Lebron leaving increase a lot. wades been underpaid his entire career... wonder he decided that hes going to get paid now

That cannot really be considered team hopping, or is it different in the US?

It'd mostly be because he himself is choosing to leave solely because he doesn't think the team can win championships anymore. It'd be seen as disloyal and selfish. Also, this was a team that won 2 championships and been to the finals 4 times in a row. Leaving so soon after things go awry won't be looked at too kindly.

Houston: For Houston, you are essentially burning the roster of all players not named Dwight Howard or James Harden. If I find a way to eliminate the rest of the roster entirely, I open up $21,186,754. It’s not a max but it is really close. Now, it comes down to how much sacrifice would Lebron be willing to make to play in Houston. The obvious first step is to keep Parsons and Beverly. This involves not waiving Bev and maintaining Parsons’ bird rights through his $1,760,350 cap hold. I can now offer Lebron $19,018,497. Now you just have to find teams willing to take on Lin, Asik, Jones, Motiejunas, and pick 25 without sending back salary. Perhaps something like Lin and 25 to Milwaukee for 3 second rounders spread out over the next couple years. Then send Asik, Jones, and Motiejunas to Cleveland for Alonzo Gee($0 guaranteed), Scotty Hopson ($0 guaranteed), and a future 2nd. Keeping Jones reduces the Lebron fund down to $17,907,153. I’ll assume he takes over a 4MM pay cut for Dwight and Harden in the absolute best case scenario. Kyrie/Waiters/Wiggins/Thompson/Asik with Jack/Delladova/Bennett/Motie/Hawes would be interesting in the east. Not easy either way. I don't see Houston pulling it off. Whole thread is here, interesting read if nothing else. http://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/290sit/a_look_at_which_teams_are_within_striking/

I don't see Carmelo or Lebron coming West. Lowry maybe, Love possibly but not those two.

Unless he manages to convince Wade and Bosh to take big cuts while he doesn't (it's more likely they all take equal cuts), there aren't any nice max contract sized holes in championship teams for him to fill. i wonder if he takes a ridiculous paycut, say something like 8m a year, silver would step in and veto the signing for "basketball purposes.

Coming out West just means they're stacking the conference even harder and it makes it even less likely that they'll be able to make the finals let alone win one. I don't see Carmelo or Lebron coming West. Lowry maybe, Love possibly but not those two. Totally agree with this. The east is just so much easier if all you care about is rings. Would be dumb to go West for less money and more competition. I think he stays in Miami for his kids and legacy. I doubt he wants to live in Cleveland again.

Lebron has referred to Harden as his "lil bro", but if he would prefer to team with Carmello, don't think Morey wouldn't trade anyone including Harden or Howard if it guaranteed landing Lebron. Convincing Lebron to come is the challenge, creating the space is not expected to be a problem. Now is the East an easier path? Sure, but if you are the best team in the league it won't matter that much. You could even argue it would increase his legacy to win titles in both the east and the west. The Rockets won as many games as the Heat did this year without Lebron in the west. The East, if all things are equal, is the easier path, but that only matters if you are confident that once you get to the Finals you have a good chance to win. And specific to the Rockets, he would have the bonus of the opportunity to make the Spurs the 2nd best team in Texas. The Clippers has some appeal, but they would have to lose either Griffin, or a combination of Jordan, Crawford and probably one or more other core players not named Chris Paul and Blake Griffin to create the cap space. Not impossible, but they would be losing important starters. I really don't think going back to Cleveland helps his reputation with anyone outside of Cavs fans. If you hate Lebron at this point, the only chance you will stop hating him is if he joins your team. Plus the Cavs owner took some personal shots at Lebron after he left, which can't help their chances. If Lebron switches teams, Heat fans will hate him, whatever team gets him will love him, and I expect most everyone else already hates him or won't care what team he plays for.
