e: spoke too soon, seems Trestman got canned too. The offense had too many weapons to be that bad, and Emery barely improved the defense during his tenure There was improvement?
Emery might as well have gone into the defensive locker room and handed out smallpox blankets. They wouldnt have been any worse.

EDIT: Orton retires. Ignore everything I just said. I don't understand anythjng anymore.

So the first candidates that the Niners have requested interviews from are Adam Gase and Dan Quinn. The latter suggests to me that Fangio may be on his way out, which is unfortunate. I really do not like the idea of bringing in Gase. I think that his credentials are ridiculously inflated by having Peyton Manning around.
Edit: Add Todd Bowles to the list.

Grade wise he should absolutely fall to the second round, but he's also the 3rd best QB in the class, so someone may reach for him because of how the need for that position works.

Bills should go for the Garrett Grayson wildcard pick out of Colorado State

I feel like playoffs would be more hype for me if there was a week break between the regular season and playoffs so that teams could get rested and fully prepared.

Whelp unless Megatron pulls off another monster game Lions are probably one and done. Suh suspended for stepping on Rogers ankle.

he's jimmy garropolo 2.0 - he's not going to be artificially pushed into the first round but he's one of those guys that you'll need to grab in the second round after being graded in the beginning as a third/fourth rounder.
i've heard buzz the saints want to grab him to groom behind brees.

Honestly, I feel like he got off easy. I think its clear from the way he executed the move that he has done similar things all season (in piles, behind plays, not to MVP candidates) and just got caught this one time. The only lesson he has learned from past suspensions is that he should be more subtle when carrying out his attempts to maim/injure opponents. There is really no reason to think this wont happen again and this one is probably 15 games too short.

I know this is super conspiracy theory-ish, but what are the chances that Manning's neck is degenerating rapidly and he isn't capable of throwing well anymore and has this tailored their offense to hide his weakeness? I know it's off the wall, but I just heard wild speculation that he won't be back and was making up a reason for it. It would also explain his recent performances.

Well, if Broncos win the Super Bowl they can make a movie of it then.

His arm did look epicly weak in a not-even-that-cold Cincinnati last week, but then again his arm strength has been down since he came back, and wasn't even one of his marquee points at his Indy peak(read: obviously his arm wasn't weak, but he's never had a cannon).

Does he really look bad? I haven't seen any of his games lately.

Didn't he hurt his thigh trying to block against the Chargers or someone? He might be having trouble stepping into his throws. Then again they were starting to run more even before that.

I forgot about the thigh injury, so that's entirely possible. The rain in Cincy may also have been an issue.

I wonder how quickly Brady will decline in comparison to how Peyton has already declined. I mean he looks a lot less mobile compared to his younger self (which wasn't even that much to begin with) and his accuracy isn't where it used to be but he sure looks 2x better than Peyton right now.

So the new HC is going to come into a situation where the team is aging and starting to hit cap trouble (most of Gore, Iupati, Brooks, Crabtree, Smith will not be back). An already crappy secondary is going to look even worse next year since McDonald is gone up front, and Smith is probably gone too. That's going to fuck up the whole defense, and the much maligned offense is definitely losing a starting RB, and most likely WR and OL too. And Kaepernick, who has really demostrated his major limitations in the past two years, will have to learn a new offense.
dipshit York publically declared that whoever comes in is expected to win the SB within the next two years, despite the fact that the team is unquestionably in a worse position than it was when they actually went to the SB. TBH, even if everything went right, I can't see them being better than 10-6 in ideal circumstances. I think they will probably finish 8-8. The NFCW is way too good now

The NFCW is way too good now I don't think that the Niners are in that big of trouble personnel-wise. Aldon Smith will be back. Brooks is expendable with the emergence of Lynch. The front 7 will be in good shape as long as Carradine and Dial continue to develop and be able to fill in for Justin Smith. The Niners D is built around being strong up the middle, and they should still be so next year, which will cover for the mediocre corners.
Offense is a little bit more of a problem. Iupati needs to be replaced unless the Niners sign him for a discount. Gore also needs to be replaced. Hyde may be the guy, but he is still unproven. Crabtree is gone next year, but that isn't really a loss as far as I am concerned. He sucks, and the Niners were going to need receiver help anyway. They're too slow on offense, which really held them back this year.
