Russia falls down another rung or two on the hockey power ladder. Remember Ovechkin during the strike and before claiming he would play in the Sochi Olympics whether or not his NHL team would release him. ![]() Bob Nicholson being super evasive when discussing the Tavares injury ![]() The way Nicholson was avoiding questions and being "slippery" i think Tavares is gone for the year. it couldn't have been scripted any better. The 4 teams from the 2006 and 2010 gold medal games remain and we have 2 rematches in the semis. another subplot is the goalies from the 2010 gold medal game are both on the bench. whoever loses, the coach, his selection of goalie and/or the goalie himself will be blamed. the sports bar where i watched much of the Canada v. Latvia game was planning to pitchfork and decapitate Price.

You don't have to be a real man to make a bet for Canada in the upcoming semi-final, that implies bravery is needed. It's not brave if you already know the outcome.... ![]() As such I hereby challenge Hawk to a 7-day ban bet on the outcome of the game.

![]() Canada/USA semi is gonna be really hard for us and looks pretty evenly matched considering our recent results these games. Finland beat Russia in a similar fashion in 2006 and lost to Sweden in the final so I would still consider them underdogs. Should be interesting games on Friday. Any Russian posters here that can comment on the media and backlash of that early round Russian exit?

Sochi2014.com says 16:00, and given that they are ahead of me by 9 hours, that would also make it at 07:00 EST. Google also says it's on Sunday, Feb. 23. I believe the gold medal game in Vancouver was also on a Sunday pretty sure it's Sunday. It wouldn't make sense that they would host the semis on Friday and then the finals the very next day. tl;dr gold medal ice hockey match is at 7 am EST on Sunday, February 23, 2014

Canada hasn't played anyone as dangerous offensively as the USA either though. All of Canada's games have been against neutral zone trapping teams that are getting amazing goaltending. Maybe a less defensive minded team is what they need to be able to get some goal scoring from their forwards

I think it will be very close and could go either way. With just one game and given how well the US has been playing, I think even with a stellar defense, the USA will still have a very good chance of winning. In Vancouver they beat us in the preliminary round and lost to us in OT in the gold medal game so it would be a huge mistake to underestimate them.
