What if Ligue 1 become a major league ? With Paris, Monaco, and strong established clubs like Lyon, Marseille or Lille, with Euro 2016 and new stadiums, infrastructures in the horizon, I can see it happen.

Yes, but it doesn't happen over night. By the time it is a "well established league" the players there now. Cavani Falcao Lavezzi and co will all be 30 plus and careers over anyway ;_;
Same with the Russian league, it has done nothing with the signings they have made, there league is probably still not watch as much in Europe, but they have some big stars. Hulk Eto Willian etc, all players were targeted by the big clubs in Europe and ended up in Russia wasting away ;_; subject to constant racial abuse as well (which is just Russia) but are happy with there big pay checks and playing in group stages of champions league every year ;_;
|
We'll see, the big difference between Russia and France is that France is a much better place to live in.

Lot of drama going on in korea right now. Ki Sung Yong, probably our most important player, has been posting on his private facebook account some harsh words about the past manager and it was revealed like two days ago. He wrote about how the coach shouldn't mess with the europe based players and stuff like that.
Then the past manager, choi, went on to talk about how Ki and the europe-based players created a negative attitude in the locker room and how they would only eat by themselves.
In korea, as you know, its really bad to diss elders like that, and some people have even been calling for ki to get kicked out of the national team.

Mkhitaryan to Dortmund for about 25 millions seems to be a done deal according to german media but it's not confirmed yet.

pity, I hoped Klopp/BV would stick to trying out young untested players like Götze, Gudogan, Kagawa

So apparently a football match in Brazil had a very interesting turn of events.
The referee Octavio da Silva Cantanhede Jordan (20) showed a red card to a player Josemir Santos Abreu (30). Dissatisfied the player started cursing and tried to kick the referee, not taking any of that the referee proceeded to pull out a knife and stab the red-carded player in the abdomen, who later died on the way to the hospital. Shortly after seeing their player get stabbed, part of the crowd... angry... went down onto the pitch and lynched the referee, kicking and punching him to death after which they decapitated him, impaled his head on a stake and hung it from the goal post, all this was amateur-filmed and put on youtube (later taken down) http://www.espn.com.br/noticia/340503_jogo-no-maranhao-termina-com-jogador-assassinado-e-juiz-esquartejado
Can't wait for the World Cup to start :D

Coming from a Chelsea fan, it's always funny... Now Chelsea is stable, but if they applied the FFP rules 5-7 years ago, what would you have said? PSG went further than Chelsea last season in CL iirc? x) If we had to compare the two teams, I would say that PSG has the better one for now, at least for the starting 11 (if we get Cavani and that left back we've been looking for for months now). Chelsea has a lot of young players but in a club like that you will probably see more than 50% of these guy fail... So yeah, high potential but that's it for now :D
So Cavani has the choice between joining a team where he will probably be the most important player in 1 year (after Ibra says good bye, the script is already written ), or joining a team where there are already 10000 offensive players. And in both, earning crazy amount of money and probably a lot less fame than if he was in a real club (Man U, Barca, Real, Bayern, Juve etc...). I have to agree that the french league is mediocre but it has the potential to get better with these 2 new big teams and as mentionned the incoming European Championship. French football doesn't have the history nor french people the football culture to pretend competing with England/Spain/Italy/Germany in term of attractiveness anyway... This country lacks passion

That is the most bizarre story I have ever read 0_0

Yeh I don't really get why the Chelsea supporters are bitching about t either with their 1.4 million one time profit and their huge exposure to Abramovic debt. It's not like French is a terrible competition they're just not top notch.

I just see it as bringing a top 5 striker in the world to a league which is not even challenging for European trophies on any level. Nor is the league competitve or worldwide in terms of viewing numbers and advertising
|
I don't see the problem. Chelsea was no top team when Abramovic bought them and he made it one with the momey he pumped in. The French league is taking the same route with PSG and Monaco being the big stimuli.

But the premier league was established and was the best league still back then. Chelsea were in the champions league qualifiers when we were bought. We didn't buy the worlds best players either, we bought good players, established pros. We also were able to do this due to the league we were in and that we were in Europe.

PSG wasn't the worst club either when it was bought. I don't see why the big leagues should get the monopoly on good players, if they have the money they can buy whoever they want like any club with money.
Anyway it looks like I'm hating on Chelsea now but it's actually my 3rd favourite club behind Ajax and Barca =/

THe problem is obviously the quality of league they are being brought to. Great players being taken away from the chance to see top competition in order to compstomp low level teams. It's just upsetting from the point of view of any reasonable football fan to see great players hived away, only to play in really competitive matches once in a blue moon or in the CL. In the PL or to a lesser extent la liga/ the bundesliga, you get to see regular performance against top competition.
