Behind them there's Shattenkirk, who could very well be a top pairing guy if it weren't for being behind a Norris caliber RHD, as well as Jackman and Polak, who would be second pairing guys on most teams in the league. I'd like to remind you that this defense set records a year ago and then got a huge upgrade in Bouwmeester. Actually, I'd like to see you contest that statement without a snarky drive-by comment like you made. The Blues defense make Brian Elliott look good. That's the sign of a pretty elite group. Okay. Boumeester is a mediocre 2B pairing defender and has always been, the only reason anyone has ever considered him a top defenseman was because he put up a bunch of points in the crap SE division. He does not get into corners, he does not get physical, all he has is his strong skating, which he doenst know how to deploy because after a decade on crap teams like the Panthers and Flames he has unlearned all defensive skills. Shattenkirk is a hit or a miss, he has clearly had a very mediocre season this year and when you discount the one amazing year he had its questionable whether he really has the top pairing defensive responsability. Jackman is getting too slow, and his predisposition to try to do a big hit puts him out of the play too often. Polak is a non entity. The Blues *style* of play makes Elliot look good because that is what Hitchcock is known for. But yes, Pietrangelo is great. But one potential Norris winner does not make 'the best defense in the league." Dont worry, next Spring when some other 2nd round team bounces them in 5 youll see the relative weaknesses of their defense.

He may not be a physical defenseman, and is prone to big gaffes every once in a while, but he's a very good puck mover, is quick as lightning, and good positionally. In St. Louis where he won't be relied on to be the guy (and having Pietrangelo to cover his ass when he does screw up), he is likely to be a key player again. His contract sucks, but the Blues have plenty of space for him. Shattenkirk has scored over 40 points in both of his full seasons, and paced for 39 last year. For a puck moving defenseman who is 24 years old, "hit or miss" is underrating him. Jackman has never had speed, but is an ideal stay at home defenseman who plays with an edge, and has played some of his best hockey next to Shattenkirk. Polak provides no offense whatsoever, but is yet again, a solid stay at home defenseman who plays with an edge and has the speed to make up for mistakes. The style of play helps, but in order to play it, it needs the right players. In both their playoff losses against the Kings, the defense was not a problem in the slightest. They didn't allow more than 2 goals in any game against the Kings this season, they just couldn't solve Quick. Scoring is the issue with the Blues. I agree that they won't be successful in the playoffs as is, but it's a long time until the trade deadline, and they have plenty of assets if their top end scoring prospects aren't ready.

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/bs-bergeron-being-observed-for-lung-puncture/ Glendale Coyotes Debacle the Glendale City Council must give one week's notice prior to voting on stuff. They have yet to post anything about any kind of meeting in 7 days regarding the new "arena deal". They must also provide some basic information to the public about what they vote on and the "agenda" of the meeting. Again, none of this has been posted. The NHL BoG meeting is today. Look for the NHL to move swiftly and decisively today. I say they are going to Quebec City. This is a good twitter feed for following the ugly political mess.. if you care https://twitter.com/PaulGiblinAriz

By what they were saying earlier, it sound like it would be Phoenix or Seattle. Seems a bit silly to realign the teams and then take another out of the west.

People would go nuts if it come back to Quebec and having Mtl vs Qc again.. would be great. .. Just get this team out of Phoenix already....

Because they are owned to 2 giant media companies they can give Vincent Lecavalier $4 million a year to promote Bell's new FibeTV. And, another $4 million a year to promote Rogers new Sports station. Sportsnet360. And the Leafs can pay him $4 million a year to play hockey for MLSE. How do you think all those great Montreal teams were built? Sam Pollock was as crooked as a barrel of snakes.

Lecavalier would legitimately be paid to do TV commercials talking about how great Bell FibeTV is.
