dortmund alone received half a million ticket applications, although they just got 24k seats for wembley to offer!! XD such a shame tbh, the atmosphere could be amazing. :/

but what a club and supporters, amazing dortmund amazing. great respect!

When talking about that one should not forget that Kahn also singlehandedly lost this final with an unprecedented mistake. At the same time the final was Germany's best game this cup, and the only one they lost. Football is often ironic like that.

Actually Kahn should be 100% forgiven for his mistake. After all without him you couldn't even have dreamt about the final lol.

On the other hand Kahn was also known for repeatedly committing violent conducts for which he should have seen the red card but - probably because he was Bayern and national team - the referees never had the courage to send him off. For me this is still a dirty stain on his career.

I know right.. and it wasnt even like an atrocious mistake. It was just a mistake by Kahn standards..+ Show Spoiler +
thats not really true it was pretty bad, but fanboy goggles..

And frankly Hamman was more at fault for dawdling and letting Ronaldo take it from him in the first place..

Iam seriously considering watching this in london. But Iam afraid that the hotel prices will be too high and the bars crowed. Is there any chance to get a cheap place to sleep and to watch the game in a nice bar that isnt completly crowed ?( I just want to see the screen ) Ive never been to london before.

Could be hard that Terrans. London is normally pricey and crowded. If i was closer to London i would of tried to get something done personally but im to far out.
The way they have done the new Wembley lay out is that it is in like a mini business park full of resturants and bars, that could be opened up to a fan park as i believe when i was there they had a big open space around the walkway. You could try to just get to the square and find a bar/big screen to watch it. Im sure there will be lots of you Germans there though

We won from time to time a few cups or showed good results, but it was never impressive. We did watch to other countrys and saw their starplayers and their huge transfer fees. For me, I realized we were 2nd class in football.

In the year 2000 after a horrible Euro for Germany (out in the groupstage), the german football association (DFB) and the clubs forced an total system change with better Infrastructure, resulting in a better coaching and player education. Because we didn't have had the money for stars our young talents had the chance to compete in the Bundesliga and grow as players.

It's nearly impossible to say how important this Champions League Final for Germany is. There were many downs and not many ups in the last 15years. It feels like the german football did build this sucess with it's own hands. And it's sexy to watch.

Yes. I used to dislike German football too but since 2006 they have become really fun to watch, but unfortunately so many people still remember "old" Germany and still hate them to this day.

Not only in football :D

But yeah, I agree. For many years Germany was this team that was good at headers, tackles, long distance shots and set-pieces. The players were disciplined and physically strong but the play was never technically inspiring. Somehow we always did quite well at World Championships with it but you could easily see that this would not go on for much longer. 1994 and 1998 we were crushed in the quarter finals by mid-tier opponents who just had a better team in that tournament. 2002 we reached the finals but that was pure luck of the draw.

The DFB did many things right 13 years ago. In 2000 it was decided that the DFB and all clubs will pump a lot of money into youth support and infrastructure. Now we reap the rewards with players like Neuer, Khedira, Goetze, Reus, Mueller, Draxler, Gündogan, Özil and many others.

Agree with almost everything above except 2002. That team was actually pretty good but no one seemed to realize it before the tournament. I for one thought they would do well. It was a great mixture of experience and young rising talent. A Ballack in his prime was the heart of it all. A lot of the players were simply on top form that year. Remember that many of them were Levekusen players who reached the CL finals that same year.

....

Ballack was the only player with any flair on that team

what youth ? Almost the entire actively playing was nearly 30. Of the top of my head.. uhh Klose and Frings would be mid 20's and Ballack early 20s. Everyone else was a warhorse on that team and they ground it out.

Scraping past Paraguay, USA and SK not exactly stellar opposition :p

No. The prices are ridiculous! Go to Dortmund to a Public Viewing place - thats pretty cheap and pretty much a better experience than in a London Pub.

Yes, in 2002 ballack and kahn got us to the finals singlehandedly. And of course the lucky bracket.
Looking back at the squad omg^^ bunch of old guys paired with failure

Hoping for a good game, but dunno if it will happen. Benfica just lost the title (most likely) in the worst way possible while Chelsea has high morale after Super Frank beating the record and securing the CL spot. Hazard possibly being out is worrying, but I think Benfica's curse in european finals more than compensates for that.

But a good ol' stomp would be fine too. Another trophy for Roman is always another trophy. Really excited to see how it ends! KTBFFH!

Fernando Torres scoring a hat trick is at 33/1 odds on SkyBet, put your money down now for the big payday!

So you forgot Bernd Schneider? But other than him and the ones you mentioned I agree that the team was nothing special.
Also Klose was just starting his career and he got much better with age.
