Get a goal! draw plox Well that was a pre emptive full time whistle... how can you blow 20seconds into the time added on when there was just a sub and about 30seconds of wasted time by players and like a minute from the crowd holding the ball at every moment.. Ahh well, Arsenal not going win shit with Wenger in charge im afraid, guy is to out of touch with what football has become. Arsenal now in major trouble in getting into top 4 now.

God damn, penalty. I hate the Spanish tendency to give penalties for even the most random and ball-to-hand handballs. Wow awesome dink from Xabi Prieto...and now it's 3-2 to Sociedad...took them 12 minutes to get 3 goals! Poor Betis. Holy shit 3-3 now, great shot from Pabón. Great match!!!

Only lame thing about these sorts of matches (as with many other leagues) is the masses of empty seats. But the football has been pretty fun to watch. Looks like there are still more goals in it because both teams are going at it. God damn, penalty. I hate the Spanish tendency to give penalties for even the most random and ball-to-hand handballs. I should have watched that, two of the best performing teams in La Liga out of the crowd of usually mediocre ones.

God damn, watching some NBA, just imagining if these guys played football. Imagine the comedy Stoke-style play you could do with a team of guys who are all 6ft 5+ but also incredible athletic and quick!!! If Americans played football as their main game, they would probably dominate the world cup lol.

But what a great weekend for soccer. Real Madrid is looking fantastic going into the match with ManU. MLS kicked off and SKC and especially Zusi was fun to watch. And finally the monster man that is Gareth Bale continued is reign of terror. I really hope Tottenham can keep him.

That's not even the half of it, think of all the guys who are like 6'-6'2 who are extremely athletic and skilled at basketball, and other than the very tiny creme of the crop playing point guard in big time basketball are not viable just cause they aren't big enough for pro ball. The US would be like Brazil I think, it's just basketball is the urban grassroots street game rather than football. It's not gonna change anytime soon though, basketball is such an institution. Here's the one thing that could change though: if the very significantly growing crowd of people who say American football is too dangerous a sport for kids to play (It's become a very vocal, visible opinion in the media, and even Barack Obama made comments in that vein) continues gaining traction, there could be more of an influx of potential young premier talent into football/soccer.

http://inbedwithmaradona.com/journal/2011/11/7/is-europe-killing-the-african-playmaker.html What do you guys think? I think it makes a lot of sense. There has to be so much talent in Africa that is missed out on because the current recruiters are looking for only one type of player. This even occurs in American sport, where certain qualities of athleticism are looked for over intangible but ultimately more important qualities like creativity, insight and craft.

I find it funny, I didnt really believe what I said about Fergie but I was about to take a nap and figured what kind of discussion it would bait out. I think that was a pretty good experiment. + Show Spoiler + trolololol I know facepalm moment. Kobe said it, it must be something to think about. His work rate was very high, but not all of it was useful, and he wasn't really too involved other than the goal (but that is sort of the norm for strikers). I think players like him the way he plays at Tottenham play best in a free role, thats something AVB has recognized for a bit. If you left him float and officially play him on the wing with some instructions to cover for him ... on his day pfft, he'll rip any team a new one..

The problem with American sports is that they don't need things like creativity, insight, and craft in the same way that association football does. They're so much more streamlined and rely on the stat lines to the point where you don't need those intangibles to be successful. Yes, the greatest need to have them, but they aren't necessary just to be a merely successful player in something like football/basketball.

Football is already the most popular youth sport here, we just need more adults getting into the sport. And we need to change/get rid of things like the draft. It's really hard to develop players when you don't get them till age 22/23. At least let them draft high schoolers like baseball. I often like to wonder what the NFL/NBA/NHL/MLB would be like if they had academies and could sign kids/teenagers. While high school and college sports are very exciting, they aren't ideal for developing professional players : /
