Yeah, don't do the massage stuff if it's growing abit

So I feel kinda bad to ask here because everything is already answered somewhere in those tons of informations given and probably has been asked before.

But after reading (and rereading) a ton of stuff I kinda start to overthink it by now. At least for the state I am in. I really don't want to count calories and stuff, as I not want to go into bodybuilding or professional, just to get healthier

The real food approach seems pretty logical (paleo seems pretty much the same, just a little bit more strict, right?).

I don't really need to lose much fat, I mean some wouldn't hurt I guess but I really just want to get healthier.

As far as I understand it every meal should have some sort of animal product (egg, meat etc.) and vegetables. Now I "started" yesterday and ate chicken breast with tomatoes and white mushrooms as dinner. Suprisingly it was good and also enough without the pasta. But then again there is this talk about carbs and starchy vegetables. Is there some rule of thumb like some kind of root vegetable (potatoe, carrot, onion(?)) each meal or is it fine as long as I mix vegetables regularly.

Also about breakfast. I'm not really the breakfast guy anyway so I often skip it entirely. Like just a banana or an apple. Tho egg (sometimes + bacon) with some raw vegetables doesn't sound so bad either.

Theres no rule about eating a root every meal, just eat some fruits for carbs. Or a sweet potatoe.

You don't have to have vegetables with every or even most meals. Their nutritional value is pretty overrated (IMO) but certainly eat as much as you like if you enjoy the taste.

Sweet potatoes/starchy root vegetables are fine if you like them but you don't have to eat them. Just don't go overboard because they are calorically dense. Onions are low calorie so they just count as a regular vegetable and not a starch.

Some things to consider are that since you're not eating all the cereal, bread, etc., you need to substitute in other calories to keep your total reasonable. This typically means more fat, so don't be afraid of fattier cuts of meat (preferably from grass-fed animals) and cooking things in butter or coconut oil. If you just eat chicken breast and vegetables all the time you will have a very difficult time getting enough calories. Healthy fats are really good for you--avoid vegetable, seed and nut oils.

i bought a proper frying pan/pot for £19 , its amazing, love it to bits *fries veg till its black*

Q: im just here double-checking that coconut oil is the best cooking oil to use (rather than virgin or extra virgin olive oil)?

think thats all for now..

oh, important thing, i need to find out which fish oil is best. it mighta already be covered in the threads somewhere, havent had a chance to look yet. i cant swallow the standard fish oil capsules (too large for me... ) . and everything has such varying levels of components i didnt just buy whatever (expensive too)

Ugh my stomach has been bothering me again this week. The only thing that really changed in my diet was that I added rice so I'll probably just throw that out again and see if it gets better.

Yep. Coconut oil ftw. Butter/lard also work too.

Carlson's is generally good. I use one off iherb that's cheap and hasn't given me problems before but Carlson's is usually the go to for quality (though costs a bit more)

I've done GOMAD before without problems and I'm drinking a lot less milk now so I don't think that's it. This feels like the same cramps I get from pasta and bread so my guess is it's the rice as I haven't eaten that in a long time.

And I can also vouch for coconut oil, besides the health benefits it's also really easy to cook with.

help, everything i eat is killing me

http://www.stevepavlina.com/forums/health-fitness/27185-foods-you-shouldn-t-eat-raw.html

im wondering how well you need to cook your vegetables. atm i fry them a bit, they go a bit black and are crunchy still. i eat brocooli colliflower cabbage carrot blah blah.

but my sister said you need to cook vegetables properly to maybe break down their cell wall otherwise we dont get anything out of them. (but if you cook them too much then you dont get anything either)

she also said raw potato is poisonous (not that i would ever eat that anyway)

i done a quick google and someone said poorly cooked aubogine/courgette is dangerous/poisonous, someone else said poorly cooked broccolli/colliflower will give you thyroid problems, someone else is saying you have to be a maniac to eat any sort of potato.......... geez........

tldr, i eat half-burnt/half-uncooked crunchy brocolli, colliflower + brussel sprouts very often. should i change this?
(i fry veg quickly in a big frying pan with a bit of oil)

Not sure if this goes here or in another thread in this section, since it ties in, but here goes:

Whenever I work out now, I find myself running low on energy before my work out is even halfway done. What would you guys recommend 1 hour before heading off to exercise for energy? I will not use energy boosters (cause I find that after I run out, I can't do anything at all) and have limited access to protein shakes at the moment. So something homemade/organic, basically.

Great thread you've put up in here eshlow, only recently found out about it!

I myself have been "doing" leangains for about 2 months (just the skipping the breakfast -part, nothing else lol), and 2 weeks ago I actually decided to dive all in (start tracking my nutrition, began weight training). Well, as it turned out, my nutrition was pretty awful until the tracking began. So now I've been reading on leangains and rippedbody.jp and moved towards a hopefully better future

Anywhoo, I still have a bit of a question. And it's about fat. Mainly about the amount of fat during training days. So far from what I've gathered, the only thing most reliable-seeming sources agree on is that the fat should be kept "low". But how low is low? Some people recommend a 75/25 split between carbs/fats (after the protein is counted for), while others recommend a strict number (like 30g). Obviously, there's a decently sized difference between the two when your total calories go above 3k kcal, so I'm wondering what's your take on this?

I'll either just grill it up with some seasoning or put a bunch of chicken breast in the crock pot and cover them in tomato sauce. ez chicken parmesan. just google some recipes.
