I gained 3 pounds in just this first week of vacation.

And I expect to gain at least 10 more over the rest of the holidays

January will be a gym month for me

I'm currently sick so I've decided to try vitamin D bombing myself as many of you recommend. However I'd like to know the science behind why vitamin C doesn't work to help cure a cold.

Vitamin C is an anti-oxidant and helps out with synthesis of collagen

There's nothing taht it does that would help improve the effects of the immune system......?

Vitamin D, on the other hand, increases concentrations of cathelicidin (anti-microbial polypeptide), and defensin1 and 2 which increase immune response. Hence, why it will directly help out with curing a cold

You know you can look these things up in pubmed....

Just wanted to say thanks for putting this thread together. Very informative.

Wooo hopefully starting FULL PALEO in the coming week since my aunt has convinced my mum!
Her goal is to be healthy and to lose weight.

She wants to know thoughts on a few things though.
-She likes beer and wine but not sure how much is good or bad.
-All potatoes are good right?
-What about corn?

For strict paleo....

Beer is ok, if it's non-grain beer.
Only sweet potatoes
No corn... I'm not sure about corn on the cob although it's probably not.

What are some good carb sources besides sweet potatoes for Paleo? I'm putting together a new meal plan for my bulk but I'm having a hard time hitting my carb targets on training days.

^ Fruits and vegetables.

White rice might also be ok? Though I think on a strict paleo it's not.

Yeah, white rice is not strict paleo

Although, I generally think white potatoes and white rice are generally fine as safe starchy carbs. But yes, not Paleo.

Hey... I'm just trying to figure out a good calorie # to go to. If I'm not constantly thinking about it I never eat enough, and I'm never sure if I have. Answer is I haven't, but for a 5'4" male, what exactly should I be aiming to consume. Maybe I just need to push through but i keep on feeling ful after eating not a lot. I know part of it is because I havea bunch of scar tissue close to stomach from surgery, but there must be something on my end I can do.

Yeah I was thinking of just adding some white rice. Easy to make with chicken and veggies as well. I'm not too fussed about strict Paleo as I mainly do it so my stomach doesn't feel like crap, but I haven't noticed problems with rice so that's fine.

What I do is just start with a number (for example I'm starting with 4k on training days and ~3k on rest days on my bulk now) and weigh every week on the same day and moment. If you gained more than 0.5kg then decrease a bit, if you gained less increase.

Yeah, wine is fine unless it's made from grains (usually from grapes).

You can use your hands to help massage out scar tissue and break it up. Did your PTs teach you how to do this?

Regardless, the milk option is still there.

Just eat every meal until you're sick is pretty much the other way.

Alright, I'll do other way.

No, did not teach me that. I've got so much scar tissue on me it would most definitely be useful.

Also, look at that scar on my neck. It's really sorta bad, no idea hwy it's that bad. It's really stiff, and getting really deep. Also protruding. It's been over two years

If you're still going to PT you should ask them.

Otherwise, I can probably dig up some stuff for you.

OK... Let me get a picture of neck scarring. I"m not sure what is going on there, because it keeps looking worse and its been like 2 and a half years, but I'll start rubbing back more, where those symptoms are most problematic (although when doing weightlifting a lot of it broke up !)
