Eat more vegetables as they are not calorically dense... plus they're healthy for you

Ok my mum wants to start losing some weight she is 160ish cm/5feet 4inches and 62kg/137lb.

what is a suitable alternative to cereal for breakfast?
she wants something little sweet and nice. not hot foods or foods that take a while to cook eg eggs. and she doesnt want to cook them the night before as well.

I have just told her to cut as many simple carbs as possible (rice) and to continue eating good carbs such as fruit.
and yeah i downloaded a calorie counter for her to use.
and shes not quite sure if she wants to start exercising or not. (she is very busy)
anything i have forgotten for weightloss?
thanks!

Well, you should absolutely be eating protein for every meal. So if not eggs you'll have to go with some sort of meat or fish.... Fruit / vegetables work for breakfast too.

Rice isn't terrible, but it's fairly calorically dense for its worth. So yes recommending fruits and vegetables is better.

Exercising can help with weight loss. But eating more good fats and protein will likely help the most.

so I mainly eat
Banana or apple
salad with meats added from salad bar
banana
chicken w/ carrots/potatos or eggs or salad w/ banana, apple plus carrots
Lots of water and my only deviation is about 3-4x a week I get 1 glass of Chocolate milk that I try to drink post workout.

I was advised by my chiropractor that its a very starch heavy diet. He said its better than anything that I have been doing. Just kind of wonder how I'm doing with this overall. Is there something obvious that I need to be doing...He said the caveman and paleo diets typically are starch heavy. He wasn't saying it was bad. Just I should be aware. I know next to nothing about nutrition and I'm trying to absorb as much as I can. I know my diet is cleaned up from what it was and is much healthier and more controlled, but if I need to adjust something what is that i can do?

too much banana, which has a lot of sugar, for my taste.
paleo diet isnt really starch heavy unless you want it to be. if you eat lots of potatoes, then yes, its starch heavy. if you eat mainly meat and veggies (and sometimes fruits), its not.

So cut the banana out at night and add mixed veggies in a steamer bag? Make sure the bag is low sodium and not just a crap product?

Can anyone give me a simple explanation why consuming a moderate amount of fat actually helps us lose fat? Common sense tells me otherwise, but I'd like to know the reasoning behind it.

Fat is filling. It will stave off your appetite resulting in less overall calories consumed.
how reasonable is it to eat off wood instead of your tummy?

^^

Fat and protein are more satiating than carbs (see the hormone leptin if you want more details).

Carbs taste good, and they don't fill you up and they don't do anything to suppress your appetite..... so you just keep eating and eating and eating. And 2 hours later you're hungry.

Anyone have good snacks to buy? I just bought the Steve's Club sampler ( https://www.stevesoriginal.com/cart/Journeyman-Pack/ ) to see if I like anything.

I also want to try to make homemade lara bars. Also going to store up on fruit at my work so I can eat stuff throughout the day.

Nuts are an obvious choice. If you're looking for protein, you could always make homemade protein bars, but that depends on your attitude toward whey and oats. I know Clif Bar & Company makes a pretty high-quality protein bar, which I'll eat from time to time.

Steve's club is good b/c you're supporting a good cause as well. I've been up to that place in NJ they're good people.

As far as snacks go any type of jerky works pretty well, nuts, and fruits really

Hm, four weeks ago I noticed I was feeling some discomfort in my stomach. First signs of it was a mild burning feeling in the stomach. I know the feeling, i've had it in the past, but it was so long ago I don't remember what caused it and it just went away. Now, since two weeks ago, I've been feeling some pain on the left side of my body, belly button high. It's a mild pain, mostly a discomfort. It comes and goes. Sometimes it bothers me for some hours and then I don't feel it for a day, then I feel it again. Now it's been bothering me all the time mostly because I'm worried about it I guess lol. A physician who's also a friend told me it could be hernia (very unlikely imo, specially after I did some research on it), gases, kidney stones (unlikely) and something else that I forgot. But obviously he just said things off the top of his head that could provoke pain in that area. When I push/pressure the area with my hand I feel something, but I can't really explain what it is. It seems like something expelling gas, I even feel the "trrrr" (spanish R here if you know what I mean), but I'm not so sure about that.

Anyway, I wonder if that is related to the change in my diet. Basically the big difference is that I'm drinking 3 times more milk (from 200ml to 600ml a day), cut down on sugar a LOT and I'm eating 2-3 whole eggs as opposed to only one. At the same time, I wonder if such a change would upset my stomach in some ways, seems unlikely to me. I'm also trying to add more meat to my meals, but it's not something drastic either. Oh, started drinking whey protein on my training days. These are all the changes I think.

I'm not asking for medical advice. I tried to schedule a medical appointment but apparently the physicians are all on vacation, could only schedule it to Jan 4. But I'm kinda worried about it because I'm a bit of a hypochondriac hehe. So I'd like to know if some of you have ever had some problem like that or could spare a few words with your own experience on stomach troubles.

I'm not expecting much from this post since obviously I depend on a medical report on the situation, so yea. Just hope it's nothing serious

edit- anyway i'm going to drop the milk for a few days and see what happens, hopefully it's not a late discovered lactose intolerance

Have you been having bad gas or something like that?

Seems more like a bloating or gas problem. I would agree with cutting the milk out and see what happens.

I was wondering if anybody here takes creatine supplements. I currently take fish oil/omega, multi and d-3 daily and have been told by my PT that since I have been lifting for a few months now its not a bad idea to add it. The only issue I have is that he was hesitant to tell me HOW to take it and have found some conflicting info on the web from loading to cycles.

So... any information based on personal experience would be helpful.

Just follow one of the loading cycles that says like 10g or something then taper down to 5g

Raidern-- go to an immediate care clinic? They should be able to schedule the appropriate testing without the Emergency Room charges that usually go along with that stuff.
