Anyone else doing intermittent fasting? I just started it and am loving it so far (btw I'm not doing it to lose weight, I'm actually technically bulking).

Yup, I'm fine not eating breakfast or lunch so I usually train fasted & eat in a ~4 hour window. Not really doing it to lose or gain weight. It just works best with my schedule and I feel fine.

So since I am traveling a lot for work again I have to get lunch in customer cafeterias several times a week. This is not a problem most of the time, since I usually just get a salad, side veggies, and/or main dish without anything overly processed like pasta, fries, or sauce. Together with breakfast and dinner which I have more control over I am still eating fairly clean.

However, about once a week there are only bad things to chose from for lunch. How would you pick from

1. Anything sausage or processed meat like a ham salad or fried sausages
2. Cut meat or fish, but with a (thick) sauce
3. Breaded and fried cutlet/fish/goat cheese
4. Starve

I am currently trying to gain, so I want to avoid option 4). But eating as clean as possible is still my main priority over gaining.

i'd eat the meat and fish, trying to take away as much sauce as possible lol. it's actually what i usually do when i eat out with others and i can't order something clean. it's only once a week though, so what's left of that sauce shouldn't be an issue at all to your health.

Was going to pickup the Paleo Solution book in the OP after work tomorrow. If anyone owns it, does it come with recipes as well or would picking up a paleo cookbook be beneficial also?

Paleo solution a small section with recipes. You can probably just find recipes online.

if you're looking for straight up info, facts, research, recipes, etc on nutrition, i'd say save yourself the money and find everything online. if you want a book, then go buy it lol. i know a lot of people who like to have an actual book to carry around and read rather than using a computer or kindle, so if that's your thing, great.

Has anyone on here tried a diet high in carbs low and low in fat? I've been lifting heavy and eating a ton of grains/starches (oats, brown rice, potatoes etc) and keeping the fat low and my strength gains have been great so far. I've also been dropping the fat off which is great.

Also, before anyone says "grains are bad" you might want to read into the paleo era more as a lot of the different groups in the paleo era ate grains/starches and the current civilizations that have populations that live to very old ages live off of grains/starches.

I'm going to be adding in fish, egg whites, and nuts to raise the protein while also keeping the foods high in cholesterol and unhealthly animal fats away.

-If i started replacing my fats with carbs i'd be hungry as hell and eat a ton of calories.
-The basis of the paleo diet has a lot of bullshit, but the principal is sound. Avoiding processed foods is a good diet plan.
-Eat whole eggs. Preferably free range eggs high in omega 3's
-Dietary cholesterol =/= internal cholesterol levels
-Animal fats aren't unhealthy. free range, grass fed sources are fantastic sources of healthy fats.

Mhm I agree anything that replaces processed food is going to do your health wonders.

I agree that the basis of the Paleo diet is a bullshit and it's really just a fad. It'll probably be dead in 10 years or so and the closer that humans get to being robotic (we are heading that way whether people like it or not) the less importance that food/diet will play. As of right now you can pretty much eat whatever you want and still make it to 80 years of age due to technology and you can get a brand new heart, bypasses, etc.

As for eggs, I won't eat them whole. One egg contains around 70% daily cholesterol......way too much in my opinion. I don't care what anyone says.....if my Dr and nutritionists a long with most vegans tells me to stay away from high cholesterol foods I'm listening.

The Paleo "practitioners" are probably the only group of people that think that total cholesterol value means nothing.

Animal fats are normally high in saturated fats which according to everyone besides Paleo practitioners, are no good for you.

If you have a heart disease a Doctor isn't going to tell you to eat fatty foods.......it's going to be a low fat, low cholesterol diet and even Rob Wolff admitted that 75% of all heart related emergency room patients have a high total cholesterol value.

Carbs actually keep me full. Try eating as much oatmeal as you can handle.....oatmeal fills you right up (It's excellent for you as well.)

Good, I'd rather not waste my time with people thinking that eating dead meat is good for you and that go against the recommendations and say that cholesterol and saturated fat is good for you.

I agree but I must say that I do respect the Paleo diet and those looking for the "perfect" diet.

I'm not even sure of what the perfect diet is and you have all of these so called "MD's" saying one thing and another "MD" saying the total opposite.

One thing that I do know is that any diet that incorporates unprocessed food is going to be mountains better than than the SAD diet. Heck, maybe the vegan, paleo, and other unprocessed food diets are just as good or close to as good as each other.

Personally I feel as though meat is pretty important but I stick with fish and still have a phobia against eating foods high in cholesterol because who knows who's right or wrong about whether it causes heart disease?

With that said, I respect everyone's diet and am not against "killing" animals to eat meat.

Well there's plenty of research out there, use your critical thinking skills and make your own decision.

The problem with the research is that there is always a counter research to the research and one research may say one thing and another research may say another.......

I think the best diet is just one that stays away from processed foods and I think that most would agree with me there.

What if one person thinks that fat is a clogging substance and another thinks that it isn't and there are articles (there really are) scientific articles at that, that show both sides of the same coin.

That's where critical thinking comes in, as he said. Are you just here to try to start an argument? You seem confident enough in your own knowledge to not need the help of others posting here.
