Since we were dicking around anyway , he asked me to do a heavy one rep. So I put on 175 and tried to bench for 1 rep ( 175 is my 5rm ) . Jesus , that 175lbs felt like 225lbs . Could barely get a good clean rep.
I benched yesterday ( friday ) 175 x 5 . So I assumed it was because of that , but my chest didn't feel sore today. So , is it possible that muscles can be weaker due to a prior workout even though no soreness is there?
heh , my phrasing really sucks but hope you guys can understand what I'm trying to ask
That's perfectly natural mate, unless you're extremely conditioned or a genetic freak like decaf.
Just realised I have terrible flexibility. I'm having trouble keeping my wrists straight when squatting. When I do manage to get my wrists straight I find that the bar touches my spine. Common sense tells me that this is bad, and I think it's because of a lack of back muscles + shit flexibility. Starting strength says to just keep doing squats and the flexibility will come but I feel like I need additional work. Anyone know of some good exercises/stretches to increase the flexibility of the upper back and shoulders?
guys what bodyweight should i generally be aiming at , if i am novice SS at 78kg 187cm? say in 6 months or 1 year or 3 years time.. will i want to get to 85kg or 90kg or 120kg..? give me a rough idea so i have something to aim at! cheers and have a nice weekend
15-20 lbs is a lot.... and you're already a fairly experienced lifter. Unless you're a genetic anomaly 10-15 pounds is more realistic and not all of it would be lean mass. But it certainly is possible if you dial everything in (sleep, diet, training program, etc.) if you haven't before.
Drowsy:
Might need to sit back more for the RDLs.... Lat soreness can also mean they're a weak link and you haven't been using them all that much compared to other muscle groups which is why they're going to catch up now
Heh.. that's definitely the answer I'm suspecting and hoping for. I can only do 10 or 11 chins at a bw of only 203 and I also suck at barbell rows. I'm convinced my lats are much weaker than my quads and lower back. My dl has basically barely moved in the course of a year, despite my squat jumping around 15% and my cleans about 30%.
More overhead work. My lats have literally inflated since i started snatching and jerking.

Havent really done my best at recovery since last year...I'm gonna milk every god damn ounce out of this summer i can and we'll see how far my genetics, hard work, how much food i can buy can go :D. I'd take 10-15 pounds...but basically even though i'll basically be doing a lot of anti bulking work if i eat enough i'll still bulk? I feel like i wont be able to do this "clean" Bringing back peanut butter and other shit in a big way. I wanna run into people weighing 220+ as opposed to 205. Sounds like a lot more fun. That and i feel like bumping my total up to 285 in the 105 class will be way easier than 283 in the 94 class. Trying to hit the national meet next year ez so i can hang out with dimsum :D

there is no "ideal" bodyweight (mostly because muscles are heavier than fat). just look in the mirror and if you like what you see, thats your ideal weight!

If you are counting your macros right or just eating a heck ton while hitting the gym harder every week , 90kg in 6months is quite feasible. However , what really matters is your strength gain , which correlates to your weight gain as well.
Then again , I'm 10 cm shorter than you T_T. so my numbers may be abit off . but same idea should apply
i once sat and watched a guy walk into the gym, lie down on the bench, then do straight up 70 bench presses in a row to failure, and by failure i mean he dropped it on himself and i had to go get it off him. complete disbelief
speaking of spotting: today, someone spotted with one hand at my gym... those two guys were idiots anyway, they did like 5 million chest exercises and then proceeded to do biceps curls for half an hour.

There's no reason to be doing that.... don't fall into peer pressure
