Considering that you don't own real lifting shoes (a lot of us dont, myself included) It's actually probably preferable if you lift barefoot. The cushioning in most shoes is detrimental to your squat and bench form, as is the positioning of the heal elevated relative to the toe. Either lift in a very minimal shoe (chuck taylors are the predominant suggestion) get real lifting shoes, or lift barefoot/in socks. Just make sure if you're using socks that they're black ones; gym floors are dirrrrrrty.

I was at the mall today and saw some chuck taylor allstars. I asked the guy if they had a hard sole and he said that no chuck taylor has a hard sole and eventually some guy tries talking me into running shoes for liftin (lol). Am I wrong about this? Or what? On the other hand, I was talking to some chick that worked one of the stores and she goes to the same university. I think she was digging it, I should of gotten her number. Didn't though :/ Saw many girls 'mirin today. feelsgoodman

Btw after lifting heavy weights I don't want to lift alone anymore lol. I'll lift with my cousin all the time for sure. Don't want to mess up and drop the weight on myself.

Due to the flat sole, some people use them as a poor man's lifting shoes, but they're really not ideal for that purpose. You can get rebranded Do-wins from VS Athletics for about $75 which work pretty well, although DimSum said his fell apart after a while.

I need some new shoes anyway, but 40>75, especially when you don't have 75 :\

Anyway, after ~2months of SS, I can feel progress with SS will soon come to an end. But I am very satisfied with the progress and not too far away from my PRs of last year. . You can find my SS-log in the spoiler. + Show Spoiler +
Summary: Squat: 152,5x5 (PR 172,5x5) Deadlift 155x5 (PR 182,5x5) OHP 66x5 (PR 76x5) BO-Row 81x5 (PR 93,5x6) I dont Bench right now because of an previous injury. I may have 1-2 weeks of progress with SS ahead of me (probably a bit more with Deadlifts). I will likey go with Texas Method afterwards. I liked Madcow a lot the last time, but I wanna do 5x5 across instead of 5x5 with increasing weights each set.

What injury is preventing you from benching?

Chucks are good for low bar squats and DLs because they have flat soles (whereas Olympic lifting shoes are heeled).

Sorry to be so paranoid, but my back is so screwed up that I need to be careful. The doctor said squats are excellent, but I need to be careful. He thinks the bar shouldn't really do anything bad, but that I shouldn't add anything more without making sure form is great.

I had a partially torn tendon in my right shoulder, which happened while benching (was my own fault though, I had wrist pain and ignored it, I put the load on the wrong muscles or whatever, and bam). Now the tendon is fine again, but in the surrounding soft tissues there happened an infection or swelling of some sort, and it didn't go away (apparently the swelling does not have enough space so it cannot heal). I had an MRI in December and 6 sessions of physical therapy in january. Since then it has become quite better, but I can still feel it. It only really bothers me while benching or doing push-ups, everything else is fine (including overhead). I do several rehab exercices regularly but I believe I need some more physical therapy sessions in the long run. Shoulder-injuries are a real bitch. I will try benching with the Smith Machine on Saturday, see how that goes.

Doc told me it was probably just a strained muscle, but I've never experienced this pain doing any back workout/deadlifting even when I know I've killed my back. The pain is not just intense all at once. The best way I can describe it is a burn feeling when you know you've put in some real work and during this time my low low back will "pulsate" with extreme pain. So I can feel like I got a good workout in my lower back and all of a sudden it's just like crippling pain for a few seconds up to 30 and it will stop. This will continue to happen for an extended period of time.

My current shoes are the Adidas Climacool and they are sooo comfy. + Show Spoiler + ![[image loading]](http://www.shoppingblog.com/2011pics/adidas_climacool_ride_blue.jpg) Previously I used shoes like the Nike Frees and Asics Piranhas. I even have a surgically repaired ligament in my left ankle and still bugs me so I SHOULD use shoes with more support but I just can't get over how comfortable they are.

Check out page 9 EDIT: Seriously though Check out page 9 ... and I need new shoes. I dunno how much I'll wear em out. But I haven't really bought any shoes (besides some running ones) since like sophomore year in high school, they are only 40/50 bucks, and they look dece. Both my uni and the gym I regular have a shoe on policy. Since I go to the latter for free, I'd prefer not to get kicked out. I haven't gotten yelled at for taking my shoes off to do a lift, but I rather not risk getting in trouble there.

When I started back in mid Feb February I was at: Squat: 95 Bench: 95 Press: 60 DL: 135 Rows: 65 I'm now at Squat: 175 Bench: 155 Press: 95 DL: 225 Rows: Switched over to inverted rows because I didn't trust my form with barbell rows, I'm going to go back to barbell rows in May. I tweaked my knee in late March and found I couldn't Squat or DL for about 1.5 weeks. After that though my squats fucking sky rocketed and my forms actually way better than it use to be. Weight's starting to get really heavy at 175. I turn super red while doing squats now ^_^. Missed a few reps last workout and found my form was off so I'm going to stick to this weight until my form clears up.. Oh yeah thanks to GOMAD my weight got up to 180. Stopped doing it last week (a week ago today actually) and my weights gone down to 175. I need to incorporate some cardio or something into my workout regime because GOMAD made me chubby (which was to be expected). Maybe not pure cardio, but like start being more active in like sports n shiz My question for you guys is: I'm stalling/missing reps on BP and OHP should I reset? My numbers seem really weak compared to where I think I should be, especially BP. I think someone replaced my chest with a vagina it's so lame (but I've been stalling/missing reps/poor form the past week and a half on it).

My max for squat before I couldn't squat anymore (Doc said not until mid may ) was like 265 lbs. You'll hit 300 in no time and then want 500. Eh, not a fan of GOMAD, despite the popular opinion on here lol
