Hello fellow Teamliquiders!
I'd like to introduce my brand new league, the After Hours Gaming League! Rather than recruit the usual crew of top SC2 professionals, the AHGL joins eight teams from high tech companies - Amazon, Dropbox, Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Twitter, Yelp and Zynga. After a 7 week round-robin, Microsoft, Google, Zynga, and Amazon now compete in a single-elimination semifinals for a chance to donate $5,000 to the charity of their choice. The finals will be held this Friday, August 19th at the Facebook headquarters in Palo Alto, CA and will be streamed live at http://day9.tv.
A major goal of AHGL is to help legitimize eSports in the west, to show that Starcraft 2 is an amazing platform for fun, friendly competition and teamwork. You get to see that the gamer communities in these major corporations are no different than your own. You get to see a realistic portrayal of a gamer as a smart, successful professional.
What is the schedule? Semifinal: Microsoft vs Amazon: Tuesday August 16th, 8:30pm PST Semifinal: Google vs Zynga: Wednesday August 17th, 8:30pm PST Grand Finals and 3rd/4th Match: August 19th, 6:30pm to 10pm PST.
Where can I view the games? Semifinals will be broadcast after the Daily this week (see TL.net calendar). Grand finals and the 3rd/4th place match will be streamed live at http://day9.tv from 6 to 10pm PST. Earlier matches from the group play can be checked out at http://afterhoursgaming.tv/schedule/
Where can I find out more about the teams? Each team has submitted a full description and bio of each player. Full team and player bios can be found at http://afterhoursgaming.tv/teams/
What are the charities for the semifinalists? Amazon: Child's Play Google: Child's Play Microsoft: Amnesty International Zynga: Save the Children
Who is casting? Myself and HuskyStarcraft are casting the finals, and Me, Husky, Ahnaris, Diggity, and TotalBiscuit casted the regular season!
What should I do? Tell your friends to join in the fun and promote the league. Have a favorite product? Root for the people that made it! Enjoying the format? Start a fun league of your own! The whole purpose of AHGL is to let people know how amazingly fun SC2 and eSports can be. So, the more fun you're having, the better .

Bill Gates vs Mark Zuckerberg showmatch please.
Holy cow, this is pretty cool hahaha. Can't wait to watch some of these games and see if any of them are any good.
Sounds great. Can't wait to watch!
My internet is crappy.. here in my country you have many ISP.. and all suck
(: look very forward to it.. <3 Day9 always. See you in Raleigh!
Gonna be awesome to watch the epic finale Mr [9] :D
Woohoo! I've been watching all of the VODs on youtube.
Hope Zynga wins, gogogo gamers ~
Viewing party at Microsoft is going to be a blast! Thanks for organizing Day[9]! I've had a blast following my SC buddies in the league and it injected a lot of life in the SC community at MS. We had a great time organizing/playing/casting/watching our internal tournament and participating in the league after that.
Microsoft have hired koreans for this.
wow this really is a great idea day[9], props
Good stuff as always I like Microsofts' slogan: 'Macro hard, microsoft'
Inb4 corporate buying of korean teams, eg gonna be the poor kid on the block
Oh Day9 how i love thy
I root for Microsoft because of their Macro hard, microsoft <3
I gotta support Microsoft. Amnesty International is a great organization that does awesome work. Go Microsoft!
Microsofts macros have always been a pain in the ass when using Word D:
GOOGLE FIGHTING!!
Day[9] you were, are and will always be a baller <33
I am excited. Go go Amazon!
Microsoft Hwaiting! (Can't believe I'm saying that - great charity.)
Wow, this is really cool! The director of the company I work for is a huge starcraft nut, we regularly have water cooler chats about the latest IPL matches, I wonder if he'd be down for making a company sc team too.
Needs more apple :D. Loved the games thus far, can't wait to see more. It does a great service I think to spread the word about starcraft in a non-stigmatized way. Keep it up!
Dasnor from amazon team:
Whom do you fear most amongst the competition and why?
With the current meta-game, I fear Protoss players who know about upgrades and how to use the F key T_T
I LOVE THIS GUY!!!

This would be something else. I would pay to watch this.
I've watched most of the games, they're really fun to kick back and watch with some friends who don't give a shit about how crisp a build order is.
I think it is a good idea. The only problem is that they all don't fight on the same level. Like how microsoft is owning right now.
awesome tournament. I've been watching some games from day9's youtube ^.^. I wish my work would have a sc2 league =(
I'm just curious about one thing: whose idea was this awesome league? One of the companies? Day9?
Btw, I <3 <3 <3 Day9 and his TV.
Actually this is really awesome if I have time I'll definitely tune in. Great idea to however came up with it
Great job putting this together.
Well we're still far from guys in suits playing games after making transactions in million dollars in the day :p
Good initiative anyway and good luck to the participants.
Suit up guys !
My roommate's cousin is on the google team. gogo google!!!
Go go go Microsoft. :-) <3 Day9
Great idea! First time I hear something like that. Day[9] fighting!
This is awesome! Great After Hours title logo, by the way
This Idea is so awsome, I watched some games from the season and it was really fun to watch and to hear all the casters! Good thing, Day9 + Team!
This is what allows me to maintain my sanity between Funday Monday/SOTG and the weekend tourneys, fills the gap perfectly! GO DAY9! + Show Spoiler +I can't believe Day9 ruined Christmas for someone's daughter =(
What a great creative thing to do, and for charity! Will watch this for sure.
Am I the only one rooting for a Google vs Microsoft finals?
Really amazing that you manage to get these huge companies involved in e-sports!
brand advertising overload!
Cool casting team though, when no pro tournaments are streaming I'll watch some of this just for the casters most likely.

Credit should go to Day[9] and Facebook. Day9 casted a tournament that Facebook held for its employees, which sparked the idea of companies playing against each other. Both then reached out through their contacts to get everyone together.
Lookin forward to see this!
Sounds great. I hope many will tune in regardless of the "line-up". :-)
Day9 for president! I will definitely be tuning in!
this is so good for E-sports :-D
I want Google to win. This league is so much fun. It's a shame I can't watch it live.
This is actually really cool, wish I'd seen it sooner.
Sounds great Sean!
Never really follow this league (so much stuff to watch right now ), but I will make sure to watch the finals =) Someone definitly NOT killing E-Sports here
Amazon and Google all the way because Child's Play has been my favorite charity for years now. Great idea, and cool concept. I wont likely catch it live but I hope to watch the re-streams of it...if there will be *hope*
If the opponents are playing with Windows systems, I fear a bluescreen is in place.
On August 17 2011 11:31 Delinius wrote: Bill Gates vs Mark Zuckerberg showmatch please.
I second this.
Seriously though, fun stuff. Any plans for the future to bring in more companies or is this just a one-off, fun event?

this is such a cool idea. I will be tuning in

Microsoft's slogan is probably the best.
Macrohard, Microsoft

I did not watch the after hours gaming however this is a great direction for e-sport, props to Day9 for giving his own money to this event.
I hope we have more of this kind of tournament in the future, it really does give E-sport good publicity.

Or maybe because you've always been beast at every game you play, so of course you teach everyone else in the company how to rape face. -_-;;;

Macrohard Microsoft, holy crap that is the best slogan ever created.

Yeah I guess that's true, I haven't watched too many of the games either. Need to start watching the vods! Are all the players on the Microsoft team from the Seattle area or are there some from other areas of Microsoft's offices?
Insane, don't sell yourselves short! Microsoft has been training harder than almost every team in the league. They have regular practice matches and all that good jazz. The training is clearly payin off :D
hopefully this encourages more big companies to Sponser events/ teams :-D Go day9!!

Since you're there with all these people how about talking some sponsorship deals for SC2 leagues ? I bet its on your mind already but we'd all like to know the answers you get.
I can't believe Facebook is at the bottom there. They should buy Idra and Huk from EG and get insta#1
But srsly supporting a progaming team for these companies is childs play. Work your magic Sean; show us the light of e-Sports in the west ^^;

I don't think it can be open to the general public since it's actually on the Facebook campus grounds, and they don't want a bunch of non-employees traipsing in (from what I hear, it wasn't even easy to convince them to allow our players to show up early).

No offense but this was posted a little late.I had no clue about this until today and it was posted yesterday so we wouldn't have even had the chance to catch the semi finals there we on the 16th.
Edit wait i am so confused my time zone must be crazy outta wack it says its the 19th unless its teamliquid that's the 1 out of wack.

I believe the larger companies had qualifiers (we at Microsoft held an internal tournament), whereas some of the smaller companies just took whoever they had who plays.

I have no idea how you organised this but Good Job! Looking forward to it!

I cant watch the Final, so saddened

Here's the tentative schedule in PST, since we can't predict the length of games it's unlikely to be accurate beyond the 6:30pm start time, and we will move the finals start time if 3rd/4th place ends early/late!
6:30pm - 7:45pm Live coverage starts on 3rd and 4th place match 7:45pm - 8:00pm Break before finals 8:00pm - 9:45pm Finals 9:45pm - 10:00pm Award ceremony

How am I supposed to tell people what time our match starts? As I recall, NASL pulled this bullshit, and rightfully got called on it. People who are tuning in for specific parts of the event (and to be realistic, people who I have told to tune in because they are interested in watching specifically me or specifically Microsoft play are not going to be interested in watching the 3rd/4th place match). And it's going to be stupid if I tell them 8 PM, at which point they dutifully tune in, only to discover that our match is halfway done already or something. If you announce a schedule, you need to stick to it (I guess you can start later, although that's inclined to piss people off too, but at least then you don't actually cause people to miss things).
I don't know if you're the same guy who posted this on the AHGL teams-group or not, so maybe my message is duplicated.
