Hell, its about time! LiquidLegends is looking for new writers to expand its coverage into 2015 and beyond. We're looking for writers who can cover a variety of material, from daily recaps and previews to detailed focus pieces.
TeamLiquid's LoL section has fostered many successful freelance writers so far: Fionn, NeoIllusions, Manisier and Chexx have written pieces for lolesports and OGN Global after their exposure as a writer for TeamLiquid. It is a good chance for everybody who wants to start in the esports scene!
Writers
Description: Writers are responsible for writing previews, recaps, features, interviews, article translations and other written content for LiquidLegends' coverage. In the case of previews and recaps, it is crucial that they are written in a timely manner. Writers must be able to write both concisely and at length, depending on the situation. The ability to recognize and develop narratives is also a must. Currently priority is coverage of Champions, EU & NA LCS, and LPL, plus additional global tournaments as manpower allows.
Compensation will be discussed if brought on. We will offer a small salary per article, or you may forgo the salary and have an opportunity to be sent to a tournament later on in the year with consistent writing work.
How to Apply: Send an application containing the following information to zess(at)teamliquid.net tagged as "LiquidLegends Writer Application"
Your TeamLiquid.net ID and Skype information. For coordination purposes, Skype usage will be mandatory.
Short introduction and relevant background information as it pertains to this position. Please do not send resumes.
Preferred league/region to cover.
Availability and desired workload.
Applications are open indefinitely.
Two test writing assignments must also be completed.
Write a concise recap on the events of a single day in a major tournament. This is NOT a battle report assignment. Try to tell an interesting story about the tournament and players as a whole, rather than listing the details of several matches. The above examples are only references, feel free to be creative with your style. Any major tournament in 2014 may be chosen as the subject.
Write an article on any League of Legends esports-related topic of your choice, including but not limited to players, teams, tournaments, and happenings. The theme of your article is entirely up to you, but please avoid excessive hero worship.
Strategy
Are you a high level player? Do you love dissecting builds and talking about strategy? Do you want to influence the metagame a little, and maybe even convince Riot to make some changes? Well, if you said yes to all three of those questions, then a position on the LiquidLegends strategy team is about as close as you'll get to accomplishing your goals. TeamLiquid is well-known for its quality articles and discussions.
With the stand-alone site we're looking for more writers to join our cause. Here are a few examples of what we do:
IPL5 Review by MoonBear, TheYango, and FXO.Navitar
LiquidLegends Strategy prides itself in its ability to release high quality content on a regular basis. We write about interesting games, investigate noteworthy builds, scrutinize new champions, and explore all the possibilities the game has to offer.
We aren't just for any keyboard warrior that likes to balance whine. We've got some expectations of those hoping to write for us.
Applicants must have:
A good grasp of English and writing
A high level of game knowledge
The ability to keep up-to-date with tournaments
Some experience discussing strategy and explaining it clearly
An understanding of how to write guides, games analysis, and other strategic articles
A desire to keep playing the game well into the next seasons
If you are interested in writing for LiquidLegends Strategy, send an email entitled "LiquidLegends Strategy Application" with the following content to zess(at)teamliquid.net.
Brief introduction of yourself (including LoL ID), your ladder rank, your main position, and your playstyle
Two example articles between 500 and 1000 words long:
Your availability and desired workload
A strategic game analysis of any pro game played within the last six months
An analysis of a strategic trend in professional games for any time period of Season 4
You will be graded on content, formatting, organization and writing quality.
Graphics
With inception of LiquidLegends in 2015, we want to push the quality of TL LoL's graphics to greater heights. We will need a pair of dedicated hands (or two) for LiquidLegends graphics to make that happen! Mainly we work closely with the writers and strategy teams to offer insightful articles coupled with attractive layouts. Eventually graphics staff members start helping out in other regions of TeamLiquid.net, like most of us usually do. If you love ESPORTS as much as we do and have a talent for art or web design, this is the place for you!
While we're looking for a graphic designer, TeamLiquids's graphics staff also contribute to the site in a variety of other ways, and we are accommodating of any kind of talent.
There are no fixed criteria in what we require from our artists. Don't be afraid of applying even if you haven't received any formal graphics education or possess an unorthodox skill set. We're providing a list of of generally useful skills to have, but they are in no way required. All that matters is the ability to contribute to LiquidLegends in a creative capacity.
Photoshop
Illustrator
After Effects
Indesign
Pixel graphics
HTML/CSS
Freehand illustration
Video editing
being able to photoshop Draven's face on every champion
If you are interested in contributing, here's how you can apply. Send an email with the title "LiquidLegends Graphics Application - *" and the following content to zess(at)teamliquid.net.
Brief introduction of yourself, your graphics background, and list of artistic skills.
Portfolio of your work.
An example of a piece you would do for LiquidLegends. This can be artwork for a news post (any league, past or present, real or fictional), a mock up version of any website feature (sidebar, forums, liquibet, icons, etc), any kind of short video, or something totally outside the box.
* Please append Graphics Designer, Web Designer, or whatever you feel best describes your profile to the subject line.
Damn I'd apply if I didn't have such a low-level english :\ Anyway I'd rather apply as a part of LR/Coverage/Event/Liquibet (if that's coming any nearest future) staff, so that sucks. Good luck to everyone, I'm jelous.

If you're serious about helping out, I'm sure we can find stuff for you to do. Even stuff like Event submissions as you've mentioned, is mostly done by Chexx and other staff. If we have a dedicated volunteer to take that over, it would free up some time for our staff to get other things done.
LL is very much community driven. No one should forget that.

I'm totally into this, if you have anything like that, I'd apply happily.
Is this just for the site covering different games and other events? I'm a high school student and aspiring to hopefully be covering Esports media in some writer journalist like position. Was wondering what exactly this offers and if there is some restrictions that would effect me because of my age and currently in schooling?

TeamLiquid.net has a 14-year-old on staff, so you should be fine. This site is primarily covering League of Legends, but you're allowed to cover whatever aspect of the pro-scene you'd like.

Must be Kollin !
He was de-staffed, but yeah he started when he was 13. Should be 15 (maybe 16 by now).
Been looking for this kind of opening for a while will give this my all, will most likely write a few things to choose from and then send the best one.
I like to dissect team compositions whenever I play. I've put some in writing for some of my friends, and translated(from english to spanish) some articles for them too. The problem is that my region(LAS and LAN) is really new and teams sometimes just don't know what they're doing and end up failing horribly i.e.: they pick a team half poke/half engage with no link betwen the two; so I don't know how much interest it would gather, if any.

If you have enthusiasm for it then don't worry about how much interest people will have for your writing.
You never know when the next Kabum will happen and people are flocking to learn more about non-Western scenes. It took over a year of Korean domination before TSM fans started to care about OGN, and most LCS viewers still don't care at all about LPL.

Alright, I will give it a try. Also, is there deadline for the recruitment?

Positions are open indefinitely; TL is driven by community so the more volunteers with enthusiasm the better. In addition, positions are revolving because people may have higher priorities come up in life.
I keep telling myself "Oh I'll apply next time, yeah next time will be great" but screw that. This time I apply. Gotta touch up some examples of my video stuff, do a couple images in the next day or two, but I'm goin for it boys. Liquid for life, I want in on this hype train.
I wish I could get in on this as I've always had the desire to try out some creative writing, however I'm not sure I have what it takes in terms of knowledge to write anything decent and innovative on my own. I guess all I can offer is if anyone would like a pretty competent English native speaker to look at their work and maybe even add my 2 cents I'd love to contribute just for the sake of contributing.
To all the people saying they aren't sure, well you never know until you try. And at the very least you get some valuable experience out of the writing assignments.
Good luck to all who apply. Writing for Liquid is in my opinion the holy grail in eSports, as the depth of their articles and interviews is unparalleled. And no website has more history than them. So to all of you who apply and eventually make it: Thank you for your dedication and keep up the tradition.

anything and everything but more specifically, look through the examples in the op, and recent news articles. Anything from doing simple banners and customizing css layouts to fit that, to making completely bespoke art and illustrations is what gfx people do

Waxangel de-staffed him because Kollin was afk and he thought it would motivate him. He also thought it would be funny
I honestly feel like you guys could do with some dedicated editors. I will be applying for the writing position soon, but I feel like editing is definitely needed after reading through the examples.
Edit: I'm not saying the articles were written poorly, I enjoyed them, but there were some simple things that could have been fixed.

Nah, but I'm sure they wouldn't look at them until at least the weekend. I'd give it some time still, if you don't hear back in a couple weeks and nobody has said anything on the forums, probably a good idea to shoot off an email then.
Especially with the new pickups I get the feeling they're probably busy as hell
I have a question. It says to submit an application, or something along those lines, but says nothing about an official form for that or links to an actual application. Does that mean we just have to format an "application" ourselves, giving the information that is asked for? I guess I'm just not really sure what they are looking for in that regard and would like to be confident when I apply.

Just going through still. Don't think anyone has been notified yet.

Thanks in advance for any responses : D
just a short introduction nothing official like a CV or something
Since the whole thing with Fionn happened, I presume that's part of the reason why there is a delay on responses. They'll probably send out emails soon.
Only to the chosen ones I assume :p ? Or did I simply send my mail at wrong time, when Fionn didn't take care of it anymore but mail in op wasn't updated yet?
On February 20 2015 14:24 Sihalanick wrote: E-mails were only sent to success candidates I'm assuming?
no should also be not successful candidates.
I didn't recieve an e-mail; I submitted my application to Fionn on the 22nd of January... Perhaps Fionn didn't forward my application? Should I resubmit it? Or is it too late?

Really? I never received an email. Not a huge deal, I'm not certain I'm the kinda guy you're looking for, but I know I sent an email to Fionn on January 14th. I think it's possible there's an issue with the email system, nothing in my Spam or Trash either.
Interesting to hear that I'm not the only one in a weird situation... Hopefully this gets sorted out somehow; doesn't look like all the artists and writers who submitted work got a fair assessment, or one at all for that matter.
I also sent in an email application to fionn and have received no emails since then. It would be nice to know that my application was at least looked at
I haven't looked at this in awhile, but the same thing happened to me. I emailed Fionn but never got a response so I also assumed response emails were sent to those who they were interested in.
Apparently I did get a response on the 21st, sorry about that! I don't know how I missed it. Good luck new guys, and I look forward to seeing what you've got!
I PM'd you guys awhile back and you said you were on it but it's been over a month and I donno if you forgot or if I just didn't make it but I would like some word back >.< I even sent another PM.
