I really like FFT's story for the world around it and the way they give you pieces of information that you can check out if you want to (and easily at that, no "Oh you missed that NPC? Tough luck"), some events you don't see "in game" because Ramza simply wasn't there to witness them, and all. The very basics of the story + Show Spoiler +Hey look Demon Queen trying to get revived by her buddies possessing people, go save the world Ramza, descendant of whoever struck her down long ago! are really bland, but it's the context that gives it this good atmosphere I feel (reading the Germonik Scriptures with Simon's notes was a really big thing in-universe, even though it didn't change anything about how the story unfolds). The writing was great however, with the prologue, scenes like Ovelia being confronted in cell about her origins, the whole way Delita does things... I was hooked from the start just because of how Gafgarion was depicted in the opening scenes (being disrespectful of Agrias and refusing to stand back from a fight because as a mercenary "I wouldn't get money that way").
Kinda like Bastion, where I agree with Numy: story itself is nothing exceptional, and we don't know that much about the setting, but the writing is excellent and makes it that the setting doesn't matter too much in the end.

First instinct? Bastion I think is well-written, but that's an easy go-to (and I still could be wrong). I'd need to replay Bastion to evaluate the writing, mostly because however good the writing is, it's outshone by how amazing the delivery is, and any memory I have right now of how well written the lines are is biased by how well every line was delivered by the narrator.
Isn't that (at least partially) indicative of good writing though? I mean, sure, a good VA can have amazing delivery of even poor writing (cue Morgan Freeman "titty sprinkles"), but if the writing was poor, it would show itself, despite how crazy good the narrator is, imo.

I have shamefully left Bastion unfinished.... I liked the style but it didn't pull me in to the end if that's any indication.

Yeah, I was going to say this afterwards. Even a good VA needs a decent script to work with for the execution to be good, so Bastion's writing is at least "pretty good".

I personally think that a plot can be stupid/boring/trite/etc but as long as the characters are interesting I can enjoy a story.

It's a lot harder to have good characters while having a bad/boring plot though. Sure that doesn't mean it can't be done but I think it takes for more talent/skill to do that than by having both a good plot and good characters. The inverse is also true in that having a good plot with bad/boring characters is pretty hard. You can have characters someone may not like but that doesn't mean they are inherently bad characters.

Wait who's talking about FFT?

Shit, I have games from 2012's sales that I haven't played yet. Got my PC just in time lol. My wallet is already hurting. I assume you were successful in assembly? Nah, I ended up watching a ton of Orange is the New Black and passing out last night. Gonna give it a more in depth look tonight.
Anyone have any suggestions on which parts to start with first. Still kinda don't know where to start.

The mobo

Also you should have a manual with the mobo. They tend to have different lights on the mobo to show when things aren't plugged in or working right so just keep that in mind while you putting it together. I'd say once you get the mobo and power supply in start putting in the cpu and ram then see if you got any obstructions with the power cables. It's a mission to put in the ram later if your power cables are in the way. Same thing with your other cards. Just take it slow. You'll be fine that way
edit: Oh I forgot. My old case gave me sight nightmares with the sata ports. They were basically right by the main power cable and next to the ram so trying to plug in new cables after the fact was terrible. I think I took stuff out then just put in a bunch of dummy cables in case I got more harddrives later. Should be wary of that kind of thing.

oh fucking christ
SATA ports are the bane of my existence

Well, you could think about it this way too: episodic TV shows. Especially those with the "monster/problem of the week" or cop-drama style storytelling. These types of shows generally have pretty predictable and rote episodes, but if the characters are interesting enough, then it's worth watching in my book. Like, Eureka and Warehouse 13 never had brilliant plots (though Season 3 of Warehouse was pretty amazing), but characters like Jack Carter or Pete Lattimer make them very enjoyable.
