And some of the puzzles in 999 were... iffy to say the least. It's more than the puzzles but the way the system worked. For example, I had to play through the game, what... 5 times? And then choosing the correct paths had very obscure clues, which meant that I eventually tired out and just walkthroughed the correct path and corresponding puzzle solutions which I may have solved more than once. The story was pretty good but there was a lot of unrewarding gameplay elements to go through. Considering that, you could argue the pace of the story was obstructed and disjointed because of the gameplay.

It's great. It's like reading the Horus Heresy except this time everyone is Horus. So much treachery!

You still retain the option to skip all text that you've read like you had in 999, but additionally, you have a flowchart in game like this: Slight spoilers just don't look at some of the lower icons + Show Spoiler + ![]() You can touch any node to jump to that point in the story. This means you never have to redo a puzzle you've already done, just jump to the choice you want to make. Of course, you can start back over and go through if you'd like, as well. Choices also feel more meaningful, as you can see there are a lot more paths than 999 and it starts much earlier in the game.
