The best part of tripping is that your chance of tripping increases the further ahead you are. It is a mechanic specifically designed to make skill less relevant to the outcome.
So basically you defend Brawl if you're bad.
edit: Actually I can't seem to find a citation for this (though I didn't look very hard, admittedly). This was definitely a rumor that floated around though, was it exaggeration and baseless speculation? Regardless it's an absurd mechanic and completely invalidates Brawl as a legitimate game.
Oh. Wow. I thought tripping may just be some awkward mechanic which didn't turn out well. So it's basically terrible and anti-competitive on purpose? That's so dumb.
And basically whenever I watch Melee and it looks like people are dashing and crouching, it's wavedashing and done by jumping? 0K. o/
Some people call it a glitch, I don't think they put it in the game intentionally atleast. Marvel for sure put it in on purpose. Same with FADC (Focus Attack Dash Cancel) in SF4 ect.
"Contrary to the common belief that it is a glitch, Wavedash is actually a physics exploit. This is because while sliding from an air dodge is an intended part of the physics engine, the uses found for it weren't. "-Smashpedia.
yeah, it's not a glitch. It's just an unintended use.
Wavedashing was put in intentionally, but the applications for it weren't intended/foreseen. Nintendo intended to have you be able to slide out of an air dodge, but didn't expect people to chain it with a jump to essentially Wavedash across the ground without the actual jump, and of course they didn't really foresee its uses as an animation cancel/spacing technique.
Basically Nintendo envision people dodging in mid air and sliding when they landed. Nintendo didn't foresee

However, last time I loaded it up there was this really annoying issue in that I can't save my progress at ALL since the game was (as far as I know) completely tied to the stupid Games for Windows thing (even though I bought it via steam). It kept wanting me to make a Games for Windows account, which I did, but it still wouldn't save any progress.
I assume you got it through Steam? If so, I had the same issue, verify the integrity and it should fix the issue, might take a few tries to get though. It took me a good two weeks off and on, of fiddling to get it to work. Granted I had to verify around 4-5 times, with a few failures to allow it to actually recognize that I had a GFWL account and was connected.
Also, try to find Flight Sim 2000, that apparently works to get GFWL to recognize that you actually have an account for some godforsaken reason. It's free I believe, so it should be an option.
I tend to dislike Fox/Falco/Captain Falcon a lot, but that's because not having watched that much SSB having most matches be between 2 of these 3 (or a mirror) it makes it seem super repetitive and in the end boring when I can't pick up all the subtleties and just see the same characters over and over. I'd say the laser spam looks annoying as fuck too, but I guess that'd be hypocritical since Morrigan in UMvC3 didn't bother me at all (which in turn is prob because with all the 100-0 combo showcased, a spam/chip/build-up strat feels like it's on a razor's edge, and cheering for ChrisG must have made me find it tense throughout instead of boring).
Captain falcon has some of the coolest move sets and combos when pulled off. Falco and fox are okay if they aren't playing that bullshit take one stock then laser spam and escape shit.
