Like how can you treat the Wolrd Championship match like an effffing Bo3 in the GSL or something, either you dont care or you just too dull to notice it. And nobody around to tell him it was bad?

Even the last game he had a few very questionable move like bumrushing tanks while not priorizing viking production dropping 7 tanks unprotected next to the base that got killed by a simple double drop, sieging a side-planetary with all his tanks and leaving the middle wide open... This was not the Maru TvT I know

Yeah, but at least he tried to play his game, Oliveira just play better. And by that time he was probably titled to be honest. But you could have avoided all that if you didnt throw away 2 games in a row doing stupid thing.

Also this is how he lost his infamous TvT series vs Bunny: by doing 1 medvac openers into the main... like why keep doing them if they lost you a series already?

Exactly, treating a World Championship match like a freaking Bo3 in TSL is just unforgivable. If he wanted to off-meta build, do proxy starport/factory or something. Just stop feeding opponent kills like that.

So up to this point, only Oceania region has not yet win Katowice, right? NA has won one through Polt although he is technically Korean and the tournament is not well-known to actual pro players residing in Korea during his time.

Maybe Memoika can do magical run like TIME/Oliveira did today.

Big Oliveira fan now, didn't know he was so wholesome!
And the way he played was just so amazing, he was on top of everything!
Curious to see if his skill really jumped and will maintain in the future, or if he just played out of his mind today.

Thinking back about the multiple times the casters brought up that EU zergs didn’t wanna practice ZvZ, is this actually true and to what extent?
I still can’t fathom how poorly Serral went versus DRG, Solar and RagnaroK. He was so good during the lurkers / vipers era but looked as clueless on this patch as Maru in TvT, really weird.

He played very solid today, but that also need to couple with a shit ton of meltdown from the other top Contenders to lead to this amazing result. Serral cant win ZvZ, Reynor still play ZvT like a bull, Dark form went down the drain, herO play some of the most careless build in PvT, and Maru throwing games by doing stupid stuff in his best matchup TvT.
In short, I dont know if Oliveira is able to re-produce this level of success into next season, for sure he will still be a fearsome opponent, but given the current balance and map pool to settle down, it will be very hard.

Ok Maru lost 1-2 To Heromarine at the beggining of the round robbin, but then destroyed ByuN and Bunny in the next two TvTs sooo he was not showing the same bad level as Serral, quite the contrary, but he looked worse vs Time than Serral did vs RagnaroK

I cannot confirm, but maybe they practiced less since it's so volatile, considering it's hard to scout when/if your opponent just decides to hammer the R button and attack across a creep-splooged map. Feels like the big blob of roach just move-shooting your tepid concave of 5 less army supply typically takes the W. On that note, to hell with roaches. What an uninspired unit. Love Dustin Browder though, so I guess it's a wash.

All that said, looked like Serral had a poor defense twice against Ragnarok's pure roach attack. Either that or he just wagered he had enough and sat there confidently taking it. It's hard to know, I guess, how much your opponent has at any given moment. Serral lost to roaches both playing safe and playing more greedily in the final game. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The early-ish GG kinda makes me think that he fucking hates the matchup and just wanted to get into an epsom salt bath ASAP.

physical condition, positive mentality and confidence played a huge part in TIME's victory today. I mean the guy was just buzzing after every win and his games were incredibly soulful. a lot of his scary opponents had already won a championship in the past, so maybe they didn't feel the same hunger that TIME felt. eye of the tiger man. he had something to prove going into this tourna and he fucking crushed it

There's nothing to take away from TIME here, but despite the hate about his easy road to the finals Maru displayed phenomenal form apart from his first loss against HM all up to the finals. It really seemed like after that crushing game 1 victory his brain kinda farted into 'I can win this easily against this guy' realising way too late that he should've switched gears and chose to approach this more defensively.

Oliveria/Time has always been a good dude, so couldn't be happier for him. General life parable of how hard work and determination intersects with a bit of luck sometimes to produce an amazing result. Especially when you consider how close he came to retiring and the upheaval in China with Blizzard.

I mean, just an insane, wild bracket--Serral forgetting how to play ZvZ/not practicing it and leaving a 50/50 won game (seriously, rewatch it), Rogue being in the military, Dark getting crushed by Hero--but also Time clutching it up and reverse sweeping Reynor and then beating the best TvT player in Sc2 history in the biggest and most unlikely match of his life.

How can you not be inspired by that. Don't know how many of you watch the NBA, but insert Kevin Garnet yelling "ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE."

Most people are very happy with Time

He had the hardest path to the finals and won.

Beating the best ZVT pVT and TVT. Absolutely amazing skill and run

Maru on the other hand lol. Easiest path to finals, avoiding all the top competition and still managed to get stomped by Time

Some fun facts:

Oliveira is the only player to advance from any group in this tournament with a 2-3 record

In the round of 12, Oliveira beat the only player Maru lost to in groups (Heromarine)

TIME beat the 3 best players of each race (Maru, Hero and Reynor/Serral) to clinch the title. I view Reynor = Serral so consider that beating either is "beating the best zerg player". What an accomplishment!

As to why Maru looked invincible in GSL but shaky in foreign tournaments, it could be a case of stamina. He had to play 3 matches today - and whilst he had a "rest" in-between the semis and finals, I don't believe you can truly mentally rest since you'll be preparing for the match.
