When I came to this game I was rotting hard for Scarlett, but then the overlooking of great players in favour of geographically more related people was quite disgusting... Yeah, it's easy to be a fan of any player but when the casters or community go way overboard hyping one person (lets be honest, foreigners) it becomes hard to not just automatically root for the opposing player. Knowing casters will keep going on about it for the next 18 months if one player wins makes you root against them. The last straw for me with these casters was when Dark 4-0ed Serral at TSL6 and they decided to talk about how superior Serral is mechanically.
When Stats convincingly beat Serral at ASUS ROG but if you were listening with audio only you might have not realised he was even playing.

all of the players above were/are legitimately great for certain periods of time
but as snarky internet contrarians, it's our responsibility to throw cold water on ppl's hype the instant anyone becomes slightly overrated

If the bias was across the board it would make more sense.
Scarlett and Heromarine hype for example >>>>>>> caster hype for say, Elazer or Showtime when I think those players all are pretty comparable in level/historic results.

A lot of the time they have results, they just get blown out of proportion. When Neeb had a 15% winrate against Koreans one year but won one match against Rogue (despite being swept by soO and Rogue again right after) they still talk about it 4 years later.
It was the same when Showtime beat ByuN at blizzcon despite losing every other match he ever played against korean terrans.
They don't do this kind of stuff when a C tier korean wins 1/10 matches against one of the champions.
