The G5L trophy is a thing in the first place because GOMTV made one special for Mvp had he been able to defeat Life and win it, they had even engraved it and everything. Unfortunately, Life was a cold blooded killer in those days and he denied the King of Wings that trophy so it has become an elusive prize that only Maru has come close to being able to capture since then. Afreeca didn't HAVE TO carry that tradition forward, but since the GSL people keep asking about the G5L it's pretty clear that Afreeca is going to honor that legacy and award something special for Maru IF he can defeat TY and claim an unprecedented 5th Code S title. | ||

GSL has already decided that G5L only counts now if it's Code S and they determined that GSL vs the World USED to count the same way. GSL makes the rules. Sure it's not fair, Maru's Super Tournament win should already have counted, but here he is again in contention to win it anyway. It just makes the eventual win all that much better. The trophy, that much more valuable. | ||
