It was considered the matchup where personal skill matters the least, and where basically everything is decided by which build you randomly chose without any information about your opponent at the start of the game.

This is the important factor, because naming it JvZ is so special, eventhough Protosses for a while were failing horribly against Zerg and then Bisu gets like insane winrates against them it wasn't called (usually) BvZ instead of PvZ, because everyone agreed that in PvZ skill is a factor and Bisu is just that good.

Whereas in ZvZ people agreed that skill is largely irrelevant and then suddenly JaeDong dominates it and what most people think about the MU was completely flipped on its head when he plays, it played by different rules than normal ZvZs which is why it got that name.

Bingo. In SCII there are people that are good at ZvZ, and Serral is just a better version of that. Whereas BW ZvZ was pure RNG for anyone that wasn't Jaedong.

I mean tbh I think people overstate how RNG BW ZvZ is, especially how RNG it is now, like sure its more RNG than other MU probably but it isn't AS bad as most people think it is.
