maru kinda played like he was on ladder trying to get some points, no real cleverness to it, also sOs kept scouting everything ahead of time as if he knew, I wouldn't imply matchfix, but Maru for sure was playing a very lax game.
So... what that make you? Good? You're not good. You just know how to hide, how to lie

Is the consensus of TL the every time Maru loses he was not really trying because he does not care to win tournaments all the time? He does not like money?

Yes. Maru can only lose when he isn't trying. He's just that good folks.

I am impressed with the performance of Creator! With some minor luck he would have advanced. I hope he feels even more motivated after this tournament!

People always make the money argument whenever progamers don't seem to try very hard at something. Do you really think every progamer always puts their all into every match and tournament? Because there's almost always money on the line.

Tbf there's really a difference between his performance in the GSL and in weekend tournaments.
Though it could also be that Maru needs the preparation to show his best performance

sOs always has close games with maru, in fact was 1 game away from beating him in gsl. Why would you doubt the two time WCS champion?

Agreed. 2 times he fell to sOs, one in the IEM, one in GSL. He can actually do it, just dies in game 5 of both games.

I'm a huge sOs fan myself but I have to point out that the pace of those games was very different from today's. Basically in the games that sOs won he'd have established a huge advantage at the beginning by doing some one-off builds (aka cheese). In today's games we just kept seeing Maru blunder by doing half-assed timing attacks.

Maru only cares about GSL and Blizzcon. He said this at the beginning of the year. He doesn't care if he loses in these weekender tournies. I doubt he prepares for them either.

Maru has gone on record saying that his focus was on GSL and Blizzcon - not any other tournies this year. Yeah he'd rather win than lose but he is not going to stress himself out or prepare much for these weekender tournaments. He is conserving his energy and form for the tournaments that he believes matter: GSL and Blizzcon.

Terrible, isn't it? All that price money the pros don't care to win. Too much money in WCS Korea, they should cut it until we get properly motivated pros and cutthroat matches.

If that is true, Blizzard has to take action. Can't have tourneys with lots of points at stake and the last chance for Blizzcon and then unmotivated and already qualified players are losing to team mates that depends on a win to qualify against the huge favorite and such. That is not good for the scene in any way.

Do you think he intentionally threw the match? Because that would be bad. But just not finding this tournament important enough to train specifically for, but then giving it 100% when actually in the match is a different thing. It's like the League Cup. Nobody really gives a shit about it, and sets up a B-team to save their main players for the league/CL. However, you can bet your ass that when that B-team is on the field they are doing their best to win.

Happens all the time, anyone remember BratOK vs Socke (or was it goody dreamhack)?
Neither of them wanted to win for some reason ..
EPS 2010/11 back when sc2 had a football style league, the qualified players for the offline stage stopped playing serious.
Koreans lost games in WCG tournaments to avoid playing against other Kr players in the KO stage.
Look at F1 teamorders, it makes totally sense for Jin Air to get another player to blizzcon.

I don't know what to think about the games concerned.

I do think that it is generally bad for any kind of sports that suspicion might even arise of throwing games or not playing at the top of capacity, possibly because of soft / hard team orders or loyalties etc. Remember Barrichello stopping 10 meters for the finishing line to allow Schumacher to win?

If Maru wasn't that serious about this tourney as claimed by Rodya above, he probably should have forfeited before it even started and let the guys that need the WCS points fight for it. Now there is a doubt which soils the entire tourney.

Funny you should mention F1, I was also thinking about that. Guess what. I cannot stomach any kind of "sport" or players that does such thing. It is simply corrupt. Remember how some 2-300,000 people booed at Schumi when he stood on the podium?

Not saying that today's event was as bad though. It is difficult to reach as low as this.
