I'd guess Blizzard demands it to maintain relationships with China. It's clearly something the casters have been specifically ordered to do since they correct themselves when they accidentally say Taiwan.

Darn, I was not hoping to see such a one-sided game 1... <.<

I'm very confused about the rules NationWars seems to have. First Chile is DQ'd for not being able to play matches at assigned time. Then Mexico-Denmark play their games before and get casted from replay. Now Brazil is forced to play their matchup at assigned time without their top player. It seems like rules are being enforced sporadically and inconsistently.

Weird since I don't remember them having such organising issues from previous editions of Nationwars.

Nice group for Italy, could've been worse. Snute vs Reynor should be interesting, two nations carried by a single man >

Group C is super stack, group A is also interesting, I feel like both China and Canada could snipe Raynor and Snute with some nice build. B and D seems pretty straight foward to me, even if Brasil and Ukraine have pretty good teams Finland and Poland are the two best team outisde of Korea in my opinion.

Both TIME and Nice are pretty good foreigners. Macaws...not so much any more. Italy is a one-man team, so if any country gets past Reynor twice, GG.
Norway has probably the strongest single player with Snute. Scythe and Poseidon are decent (around 1.4-1.5K on aligulac).
Canada has 1.4-1.7 range in NoRegret, Jig, and Bioice. However, NoRegret has taken games off of some great Zergs, so they might have a chance with unorthodox builds.
Overall, I'd say China has the strongest total team, with Norway and Italy having very strong one-man teams, and Canada rounding out the bottom with two decentish players and NoRegret, who is kind of a tricky player.

China will have to play with 150-200ms ping disadvantage.

Korea is tough but I dont think Chinese Taipei nor UK have anyone capable of stoping Major so chances are good.
