Im sure it has been brought up elsewhere, but why do they fly players to Korea for a single Bo5? Is there a good reason for this? After Heromarine dropping out on the first day, this event feels like its half-over already.

I don't know but I don't really like this kind of event. I prefer when you have something like 64 players. Going to another country to play only one best of 5 and then leave, it's juste a shame. Players like Demi, eGGz, Nice and Dns went there to loose 3 maps and that's it. I prefer the WCS format. Additionally, many matches are not really interesting in this tournament. I mean, who is interested in seing SoS vs Dns? That is not a match you want to see in a round of 16.
Im sure those players didn't really mind it though right? Get to go to mecca of Esports on one of the biggest stages ever for a special Olympic event earning a nice amount of $3,000. As a fan of those players it might feel a bit more annoying but im sure those players are happy they won $3,000 and got to experience that!
I don't imagine they leave straight away either, could make a holiday out of it or I at least imagine ESL let them come to the studio for the next two days.

Me. I'm always interested in seeing $o$ play no matter the victim opponent.

First two matches look interesting. Think there's a real chance Zest goes down, but I'll bet on the more probable outcome that he narrowly gets by. Hope Scarlett hits him in the next round.

if he doesn't lose his wall army outside of his wall for nothing he's probably fine...
It's just so characteristic of Zest lately where his losses involve him making mistakes that could be totally avoided. He used to be so solid and unbreakable.
I knew Zest in his current form wasn't among the best Koreans, but this series showed just how far away he is. Elazer played solid, nothing exceptional.

I would say his Sauron Zerg, multiple angle attacks in game 4 was pretty exceptional. Not many Zergs try to do that or are even capable of that.
This is bottom tier code S stats in the match up for more than a year. I doubt it'll ever be fixed and Zest runs are more dependant on the absence of Zergs on his path than anything else.

Ya, Elazer's 3 prong attack had Zest confused about how best to split up his army to respond, causing him to leave his Immortals exposed for a moment and the Zergling surround ended it.

It was a good idea and he executed it well. But that's hardly the first time a Zerg has attacked on several fronts, or used dropperlords.
Like I said, Elazer was solid. Zest on the other hand was making questionable decisions and unforced mistakes.

Korean Z can be sum up to Dark and soO for more than a year imo. Rogue had an exceptional streak at the best time possible but looks to be back to his normal ro8 at best level.

DRGLing GSL champion 2020.

Being perfectly honest, I expect 2019 to be the last year of Korean SC2.
Too many players are too close to enlistment age. Even if the money is still there, there won't be any players to play.

Seriously among all the top Koreans, sOs is one the last guys you'd count on for preserving Korean hope. He is just able to beat and lose to any player in the world at the same time. Dark or any top KR Terran besides TY is better suited for slaughtering foreigners.

Why do people consider this an upset? Serral is a foreigner. Scarlett is a GSL ro16 player who recently beat the world champion. Guess reaching 10k MMR on the EU server isn't that impressive. Scarlett was #3 on KR last time I checked which is much more impressive.

Calm down Wolf, if the spire hadn't been scouted you'd be saying how Bly bounced off the emotional disaster.
No I wouldn't, I said from the beginning he was tilted off the planet and was going to lose in a macro game. He was never going to cheese in this map after game 4. Ever
2 base muta is a cheese, not a macro build.
He built 7 mutas then threw down a 3rd hatch. That was pretty macro-y if you ask me.
2 base muta is definitely not a macro build, not since HOTS
Again he was building a 3rd while his mutas were popping out. I'm not saying its the most macro of macro builds but that was a macro game. We'll never know if that would have turned into a 2 base all in had the spire not been scouted but he definitely macroed out of it

That build has never worked on LOTV, could be good vs mech but it's a true gamble
You should tweet that at Bly so he never makes the same mistake of using it.

if the spire doesn't get scouted, there is no ebay wall, no turrets, no mine production. mutas kill off scvs, pick off the tanks and the terran dies to a speedling rally

By that logic proxy 2 rax in TvZ is not a cheese but a macro build because Terran can macro even if Zerg holds it off.

Or he does the build the same way he did and make 6-8 mutas and a 3rd, and keeps Major pinned down as he rushes to hive tech.

Scarlett shown an absolute horrid form, after she managed to upset Rogue in the GSL qualifiers. Went like 0-567685 against Neeb and protoss in general, and lost to every half-decent terran as well. Watched the series where Khelazur 3-0d her. The only good matchup for Scarlett lately is ZvZ, and she was eliminated in ro32 at WCS in an all zerg group.
And it's not even the fact that she keeps getting knocked off, the games are all "well let s see if i can blindcounter or allin my opponent, well it looks like he went for something else than i tought he would, gg then". Watched about 20 scarlett games in the past few weeks, lots of early gg-s because she just made 60 drones and died to 5 hellbats or went allin on lings and the other guy managed to make a wall. Granted, most of the wins against high tier opponents were also ling-floods
Im persoanlly quite sad that Serral was eliminated by Scarlett

She lost in WCS because she was jetlagged otherwise she would have swept the tournament like every GSL ro16 player would've done

That doesn't really count, and Scarlett would have 15k mmr in eu if she tried. Just like she'd demolish WCS in general. And beating Rogue who's been in absolute amazing shape after his championship in one bo3 is more impressive anyway.
Ps. Thank god Leenock can't come steal all the foreigner welfare money.
Scarlett struggles a lot vs toss. I wish to see how Elazer manage to face sOs. It would be the best final because special won't handle sOs as far as I know sOs's Pvt. If Elazer looses to Scarlett so sOs'll win easily the final Both Elazer and sOs are really entertaining to watch

Cmon dude, you think she really tried there? GSL players are known to hide their strategies in less important tournaments so it's harder for their opponents to study them.
Didn't Zest get 3-0ed by Snute in some cup shortly before he won his GSL?

It's really hard to stay dominant for long in this game.
He still has a shot at winning Katowice but there won't be as easy koreans as Zest there, the competition is gonna be fierce.
Serral doesn't have a shot at winning Katowice. He couldn't even win Pyeongchang over two Koreans, the second-tier Zest and the wildly inconsistent sOs. Most of Korea sat this one out and Serral still went out in the Ro8, not to a top Korean, not to Neeb, but to Scarlett. Hell, he didn't even advance far enough to play a Korean.
The actual top Koreans will be in attendance at Katowice, and in full force. It will be an upset if Serral makes the Ro8.
Not that I'm singling out Serral, of course, the same goes for any foreigner.

... It's becoming increasingly frustrating to have casters constantly mix up players. I think in the Serral vs. Scarlett seriously it happened roughly 20 times. Why don't they glue a multi coloured sticky note on the top of their screen? I mean it gets ridiculous after awhile Z_z;: pet peeve.

This being aside from the fact that sOs is just flat-out better than Major.

Yeah, but it's easier if someone with CSS rights does it, so that you don't have to ping someone each time you do an edit to keep the page pretty (though I guess with the LP integration scripts, you don't need to edit in stuff as often as before).
