Wrong date?
Lickpiddy states the group plays on March 24, 2016 - 17:00 CST.
|
With the way this tournament has gone so far, I can't predict this group.
Gunna go with Marinelord/Snute, but wouldnt surprise me if MajOr somehow pulled out a win here, even though his LAN experience has been underwhelming.

Had no idea about this thing. Have something to watch tonight now

wait, this is a Premier WCS tournament? I totally missed that Oo Seems like the players missed it too, an open bracket with only 13 players of which most are unknown Chinese players? This doesn't feel like a premier tournament at all

Besides how cool is it to have a Mongolian player in ro8! :D

Very poor execution by MajOr, both on the offense and defense.

understandable but still feels off to me. With the mongolz coming out of nowhere in CS:GO and now a Mongolian SC2 player nobody ever heard about showing up in Shanghai, is there a secret Esports society hidden somewhere in Monoglia or what?

Wow MarineLorD should have lost everything in that fight, why didn't MajOr kill the tanks? o.O
|
This was the most mirrored game I've seen in a long time. Exactly the same openings with the same attack timings and everything and Marinelord taking slightly better trades all the time. Until he decides to take a big engagement without combat shields >.<
Also it feels really weird watching a stream without game sounds. This is the official English stream, right?

You can see MajOr wants to be TY in his play, every time.

Well I don't even know who to take between major and puck. I thought they'd both lose their initial match ups so I'm not even gonna guess.
|
I really didn't expect NA to show up, but we've got at least one NA player in the quarters. Even more, this is the best case scenario to not have another Zerg (sorry snute). Regional diversity is looking nice, EU, SE Asia, and NA.

In my dream scenario, Puck beats Major to advance, Snute beats Marinelord and then Major to advance.
Snute, please win. That's most important. D:
Of secondary importance is Major losing, though.
Gotta say, though, I think Major might take it over Puck, unless there's some weird Protoss shit that happens. Which is entirely possible with Puck.
|
Some cool speedprism disruptor harass from Puck

Those disruptors are so filthy

This style isn't even any good. Stalker/disruptor sucks.

Yeah they might have to start earlier, unless they're not bothered by staying in the studio until late at night. I guess it depends on how long the breaks are between each games, but 24 games is a bit more than 1 1/2 full GSL groups. So it might take like 6 hours.

Terran picking Lerilak and then winning on Central Protocol, is this the alternate universe where MKP beats NesTea?

Super wide chokes all over the place are really good for Zerg though. Protoss is the one that gets really screwed over by this map. I think it's best for Zerg but it's not that far behind as far as being good for Terran is concerned.

So Snute is busting Major's natural, and he then calls down 3 MULES right there where Snute is attacking?
Ok... I mean sure he had almost no chance to comeback but if there is any way for Terran to comeback it is with the MULES, that certainly didn't help.

This tournament's seeding is really unfortunate though. 3 of the 4 favourites get grouped together and now the 2 that are left end up in the Ro8.

In g2 Major vs MLorD, MLorD got really greedy with his raxes so he had almost no army to deal with the double tankivac + viking harass, got super behind because of it.

Where do you get that winrate from, I don't see much terrans in SSL or online cups, and if GSL is out because different mappool, that leaves proleague which is bo1 in teams, this has nothing to do with 1v1 tourneys.
I didn't see the decisive games of MLorD/MajOr today but looking at the results: lerilak is meh, central is bad, ulrena is terrible to meh depending on the build (Snute doesn't do FireCake stuff so it becomes meh I guess).
Major was exposed tho, it's not even choking it's just trying to get cheap tactically but harass heavy wins that did not work out because you can't get away with being inefficient at high lvl TvP (didn't see vs Snute but if it's against allins, he was already "lazy" in his defense at IEM).
It's almost like he would rather produce more stuff than micro his actual stuff, send his stuff in harass, rinse repeat until hopefully the opponent finally dies / has to all-in him in a bad position.

|
France12909 Posts
I don't blame the results, a question was asked in a manner that imply that terrans don't do well in general :"no terran... again??!" and my answer is that terrans are struggling in various tournaments mainly because of the mappool which isn't favorable for them in BoX because "on paper" they'll lose.

When you have a professional tournament with the top players, something like this would never happen. When you have a tournament, where an amateur with no competition experience can come that far, that is saying something about the level of players in that tournament. And then, things like that can happen.

Okay, thanks for explaining, because it's really hard to get that from "Smart guy, go Sioras go".
And saying that it would never happen if only top players were at the event is stupid, since unsportsmanlike behaviour is not related to experience or skill. Otherwise we would have no matchfixing problems in Korea. Not everything is so great there.

I do not think, any Korean would do it in a public space with the risk of being seen. Therefore, that would never happen in a tournament with the top players.

Really unfortunate for nerchio/snute, that match up could have been the finals

Well just because you think that, it does not make it true. But let's say it's true.
Even if WCS was not region locked, the SEA region would still get a slot and Sioras would still have been at the tournament. Even if SEA would not longer get a slot, there would still be open brackets tournaments wher non-top players would appear.

Nevertheless, it's common fucking sense that you're not allowed to go to someone's PC and check out their replays.

How many big tournaments can you name that are not related to WCS this year? And how many of those even have separate qualifiers for separate regions at all? Yes, last year SEA would have probably been grouped with Korea for online qualifiers, but that system is gone so there's no point in calling it "normal".

Besides, Sioras placed above several well-known Australian and New Zealander pros, it's not like the qualifier was an amateur bracket, and finished above 3 of the best non-Korean Asian players in his group. Which tells me that even if SEA was grouped with more Asian countries - besides Korea - he'd have had a chance to qualify. Alas, that's not the reality we live in so we'll have to make due.

I do not think, any Korean would do it in a public space with the risk of being seen. Therefore, that would never happen in a tournament with the top players. Well just because you think that, it does not make it true. But let's say it's true. Even if WCS was not region locked, the SEA region would still get a slot and Sioras would still have been at the tournament. Even if SEA would not longer get a slot, there would still be open brackets tournaments wher non-top players would appear. This is the first offline tournament for Sioras, right? If this was a normal tournament, SEA region would not have a specific slot. They would have a qualifier together with some other Asian countries and the probability that an amateur, who was not on any other tournament before, would get through, would be very low. SEA has separate qualifiers for all WCS-related tournaments this year I think. Nevertheless, it's common fucking sense that you're not allowed to go to someone's PC and check out their replays. OMG. Yes. This is exactly what I was saying. SEA has separate qualifiers FOR WCS RELATED TOURNAMENTS. Well, if you are at your first tournament, you have no idea what is common fucking sense. Usually, you learn to understand that on your first low level tournament in suburbs of Ulanbatar. It's called common sense because it's based on logic. It doesn't take a genius to figure out you're not supposed to access the PC of someone else and watch the replays. How many big tournaments can you name that are not related to WCS this year? And how many of those even have separate qualifiers for separate regions at all? Yes, last year SEA would have probably been grouped with Korea for online qualifiers, but that system is gone so there's no point in calling it "normal". OK, I see. You did not read my post and are trying to argue about it. Nice. EDIT: I meant "this WCS system is ridiculous", you answer "the most tournaments are related to WCS" I know you think the WCS sytem is ridiculous, and maybe you meant to say it, but you didn't, so don't tell me I didn't read your post. Usually, you learn to understand that on your first low level tournament in suburbs of Ulanbatar. today I learned: going into someone's else computer and probably using his b.net account is not necessarily seen as malicious common sense being redefined right in this thread You must be really smart when you learnt this. I would be interested in your IQ. You know, the IQ is not split equally around the globe, When you are from a country with much lower average IQ than in the west, then those things that are common sense in the west are not common sense for you. This is also related to the criminality. If you don't understand, what is a criminal act and what consequences it can have for you, when you are caught, then you do it. When you understand it, you don't do it. Therefore the criminality level differs in different countries. And actually, the criminality level in Ulanbatar is quite high. Incidentally, Mongolia has the 6th highest average IQ in the world. OK. WCS is ridiculous, but our discussion is even more ridiculous. So enough for me.
For me, it was a "common sense" that when I wrote "I am laughing about this situation, that could not happen at a normal tournament", it was nothing against the Chinese organizers, but against the ridiculous system that lets progress to such high caliber tournament mediocre players. But you are right, Sioras has beaten several normal players, so he might actually qualify also to a normal tournament.
I can assure you, Mongolia does not have the 6th highest average IQ in the world. The whole research looks very reasonably and I trust its data, with the one exception of Mongolia. I spent quite some time there - they had a coal mine, where they were mining with a huge Russian mining machine, One day, there was an accident, the machine broke and killed a few mongol miners. But nobody knew, how the machine operates and how to repair it. In the past, it has been always maintained and repaired by Russian engineers, but those left after the dissolution of USSR. So, Mongolia did not try to repair it or hire foreign engineers. They closed the mine. That is the mongol "common sense". But anyway, Mongolia is still Asia and Asian countries have the highest IQs in the world, so they will not be so bad, the probably lack more the education than the IQ.
Nevertheless, when a player sits in a public space at an opponent's computer and watches there some replays, that does not show very high IQ or understanding, what happens, when somebody catches him. But I am not in Shanghai, I did not see the setup of their computer hall, I do not know, whether it is not a huge PC room with hundreds of PCs, where anybody can sit at any PC, and where Sioras might have though that Harstem left and the computer is free now, so he sits there and "luckily for him", Harstem did not log off from Battle.net. If this was the case, he is "guilty". If he was just sitting at Harstem's computer, where it was obvious that he will come back and will see him, then he is just "stupid".

anyway i don't understand how you guys went to an IQ discussion about a guy that behaved like this, he's maybe lying and he did it that on purpose, fully knowing that was wrong (huge gamble nonetheless)

No, they just throw games and get arrested. That's so professional.
