At this point I'm half expecting them to go full troll mode and casually announce Proleague tomorrow. Just a casual "Oh by the way Proleague starts next week"
Hoping for INno and soO to advance but I'm fine with any result.

Weow, I like Tasteless' hairstyle ! Very Mad Men-esque. The beard would need some trimming to look a bit cleaner, but he's lookin' guud !
Also, I'm really disappointed TL: only two pages of hype ?!
Gogo INnoVation ! And for the second game, I'm torn. I really like soO (and he'll probably be the one advancing), but the Byun-jwa's return... Aaaah, it's too hard to choose !
Azubu so out of sync, u minimize chat and the video player takes up all of my 21" monitor screen and i have to scroll up and down wtf and can't zoom out to fix it. Azubu please
I'm actually really disappointed with tateless being added to team salmon. I really enjoyed TS and Tastosis being two seperate things so there was a bit of variety.

Valdez is casting Vainglory tonight, so they had to get someone to replace him. Tasteless won't cast every night of SSL I don't think

If he sent a single liberator to ragnarok's side of the map this game would be over. There's no way he has enough to defend against it any more, he threw all his queens into the first one
That had nothing to do with nydus, as soon as the first liberator lived Innovation could have won it. Instead of placing 3 liberation zones on top of the nydus worm if he had just kept 2 and sent the other one to Ragnarok he could have forced him to respond. There was a point where ragnarok only had 2 queens, and two bases.

It's not about CC first I think, but triple CC helions should indeed lose vs a nydus. Or set you behind like it did here.
Saying that terran shouldn't build hellions is denying the economic realities of the game.
I play Terran and you can say that all you want, but Innovation should've scouted that and built a tank or two. Even the Liberators were enough to hold if he used them correctly. Sitting 3 on top of the Nydus (which let the units just walk away) was a big mistake.
He should've had a liberator by each mineral line and one watching the nydus in order to protect his scvs and reduce possible damage done.

forced him 2 respond by making ravagers?
Ravagers at home are ravagers not in his base. He wasn't going to stabilize much better from liberator 3 being positioned over than nydus then sending it around to harass or kill overlords. Or do ANYTHING. The nydus flustered him and caused him to have a poor response. He definitely could have done more to make the game more competitive.

I think the prestige of the tournament kinda tanked after the format was announced, I really don't get the format change, it was really good last year.
bo3 + this format is really fucking bad. where my starcraft at. no idea why they decided to mess with the round robin group format to begin with. tried and true.
Man LotV games are so short. Makes me wonder if well ever see epic games where maps mine out anymore. How can you have games with small engagements around the map if its gonna end on 2-4 bases everytime.
Other than that, innovation played pretty greedy and ragnarok took advantage.
I think games are over quicker now as greedy builds can actually be punished now and since all the standard builds that carried over from HoTS are full of greedy plays then that's why it's so quick.
That's a good thing. Greed should be punishable and the meta should adapt to suit this with more defensive openers if they know the other guy is going for aggression.
Going blind 3CC Hellions was always an awful thing for the game, it just shouldn't be possible to get 3 bases that quickly.

Games in HoTS rarely got past 3 bases as you never needed to take more :/

Calm down. HOTS was this fast paced too at the beginning. Let the game settle, pros figure out what is best and it will slow down.

Games will start to last longer once dumb cheesy shit gets patched out (Nydus, Adepts) and players generally get better at scouting and defending the new aggressive openings. It'll take a while.
Games are always shorter at the start of an expansion, as all the cheese-defence isn't really worked out yet. The games will get longer as the meta gets figured out. Just look at bit by bit.

agree entirely. quit sc2 back in 2011 because it was too cheesy and all-in based - didn't like. Coming back now and loving the new units - seems much more macro based compared to then, with units and micro more similar to BW which I absolutely loved.
It'll progress to be even more macro based. Games just volatile and not entirely balanced because it's brand new. It'll get better from here, and I'm expecting it to be pretty awesome once it's a bit more figured out.

I wish there was actually an option to punish greedy play from the zerg.
B-b-but MarineLord showed us that terran was OP ! I don't understand !
On a more serious note, I juste checked and there were only 3 terrans in the SSL bracket. INno is already out, I'd be surprised (but happy) if Byun made it out, so that leaves... aLive, who plays against Classic. To be honest, if there are no terrans left in ro8, I'll completely loose all interest in this tournament.
And I'll be especially mad if all terrans die to random cheese/bullshit that'll get copied on the ladder over and over...

It's too quick even in group stages. Never mind single elim Bo3.
What's the point of driving everyone out to the studio for half an hour of games? seriously.
i think 5 best of 3 series for a group stage is a very reasonable amount of starcraft, always has been
But games are what, half as short as they used to be? 5 best of 5s in lotv probably takes about as long as 5 bo3s in hots
well, you should also consider the fact that LOTV is more mentally taxing for the player, considering how much there is to do with things as fast as they are. 5 bo5s is a bit too much.
This is a sad week for innovation I just want to see my favorite players dominate in sc2, but there is always some zerg to stop them(hitman, rogue and now ragnarok)
What is this cheap counter strike clone from 2000 btw?

I guess I hadn't really thought of that. Maybe a full double elimination tournament with bo5+ (depending on the round) would suffice as a balance between content and player mental health

I wouldn't count on it being patched out any time soon, multiplayer support for sc2 seems to be extremely minimal post launch. they can't even fix the leave league bug.
If anyone is still working on sc2, its on the nova campaign DLC.

i'm not a fan of round robin over GSL groups but it would be nice to have the round robin group stage just for the sake of variety
I remember the good old times when there was a timer in the top right to tell me when the break would end... and the even older times when shit had English subtitles.
Makes sense to why Tasteless signed up to SPOTV casting then. Was a position available and money to be made for him, good replacement. Shame Artosis is busy with Hearthstone commentating on the side so we couldn't have the 4 (tastosis wolf brendan) cast both Korean leagues, but no worries this is good!
Please ByuN, don't get 2-0'ed. Even if he loses the series 1-2 and puts up at least a couple close games, I'd be happy. Though still rather disappointed in the end if 2 of the only 3 Terrans in SSL got eliminated.

@blind-rawr - what do you think of SC2 now? back when i used to play before my hiatus i knew you were quite the bw fanatic (as was I), but I'm enjoying what SC2 has become a lot more (even if its volatile in early LOTV) - and its potential, compared to what it was.

LOTV is funny, Liberators are funny, buff siege tanks, desperately needs new maps to phase out these shitty blizzard maps.
Getting serious flashbacks of soO vs INno finals, where I would have rooted for soO against literally anyone other than INno/Maru. I guess now we add ByuN to that list. sorry soO

His reaper control was a little shaky, it's not completely ridiculous considering he hasn't played offline(other than qualifiers) in a very long time.
I love the LotV soundtrack but like... I wish Blizz toned it down a bit. With the other soundtracks I often barely noticed they were going in the background. The LotV track just blasts at you in full force even when nothing is going on.

Interesting thought. Do you think there is a difference in approach in how koreans prepare their matches compared to how foreigners do ? And if so, would you mind sharing some insights as to what those differences are ?
90 minutes into broadcast and we are done. That was with 20 minutes talking before start of 1st series and a 10 minute? Break after first series xD 60 minutes of sc2

iG partnered with Prime, no reason X-Team couldn't put Byun in a house if he wanted it

Uh, yeah...Prime is pretty dead.
edit: I misread your comment, sorry.
real response; Partnering with prime is nothing like putting a player in a top team's house, lots of players have stayed with Prime over the years but few(probably none) have stayed with KT, SKT, jin air, samsung, places that byun could actually end up on with the right results.
Very happy for ByuN, but I hope he doesn't have a serious illness .
He doesn't look too healthy, his hands are shaking and he even needed breaks because of his hands when he played in Shoutcraft. I now believe that he maybe didn't go to HSC because of health reasons, but I really hope I'm wrong!
Maybe the unhealthy gamer lifestyle is just getting to him, in that case he needs a coach or something who helps him with excercise and nutrition.

But it happened, no reason to assume it couldn't happen with X-Team and any other team

It's very possible he doesn't want to join a Kespa team after what happened with Prime. Also judging by his behavior on stage its possible he doesn't feel comfortable moving into a teamhouse either,

When you think about hourly entertainment, SSL really doesn't deliver compared to last year. I find it really sad, korean sc2 just feels super empty with not enough going on until GSL and SPL come back.
On January 07 2016 19:33 chipmonklord17 wrote: Wait we get 2 bo3 a week? fucking really
Yes. SSL is Thursrday every week GSL is Wednesday and Friday every week
Proleague announcement is really late compared to all the past seasons in sc2...
Yeah
Guess they're still sorting out whatever is happening with the 8th team.
Proleague also finished 1-2 months later than it usually does (2015 - October, 2014 - August), so I expect them to start a month later than it usually starts (2nd half of January). Hoping for some news soon ._.
I blame Blizzard for this new, one night a week 2 bo3 format in SSL. Sux mane. It's really just padding out the calendar because there's only two seasons this year.

Well I don't think what happened with prime(if you're referring to matchfixing) has much at all to do with byun, since he has effectively been retired/inactive for 2 years while all of that went on. The second point is definitely possible and I would say likely.

Staying up until 3 AM to watch half an hour of games spread across an hour and a half of commercials is a little different, though

Yeah, I can imagine. It probably wasn't even 60 minutes of game time. I didn't see the first game of soO vs. Byun, but I doubt it was 30+ minutes long. Inno vs Ragnarok was over in like 14 minutes.
Wow INno got 2-0ed o_o; was he zerg'ed or just still mentally broken having been schooled by a foreigner? Or maybe it was the LAN lag plus the hour, too close from dinner... Gratz ByuN, didn't disappoint :d

He played kind of the way Inno usually plays when he plays bad. Oh, this guy is likely worse than me in the match-up and doesn't mind all-ining at all? My openers will therefore be 3cc hellion and 2rax non proxy reaper

His play wasn't on point, but nowhere near enough to have saved Ragnarok if this had been HotS.

Highest ever peak of dominance, in the sense that he was nearly undefeatable, belongs to either Life or Mvp. Also INnoVation's 2 GSLs were in a period either shortly after a Terran buff or the rise of a new Terrain meta ie mech

In oov's office is a big red button behind a pane of glass.
Over that button it says "In case of emergency," and when he breaks it, PartinG quits YFW and returns to SKT. That time is now.

Oh yea, Innovation was an absolute monster from March to August 2013 - he never finished outside of top 4 in every single premier tournament that he entered. I would say Life hit a higher peak, but not Dear.
Innovation is definitely the top Terran of HotS though. Life is the top Zerg (not a hard pick), and I would argue sOs is the top Protoss

Except that SSL title he has. And the KeSPA Cup win, and the IEMs. Although I guess there can be arguments made for Zest, sOs and Classic when it comes to accomplishments. Maybe Rain aswell.

Inno got quite outplayed. Please fix him, oov. Nice multitasking from BuyN altho soO seemed a bit off too.
