Vikings were required as Colossi counterplay in both HOTS and WOL, and never stopped being counter to Colossi. Terrans were still making Ghosts against High Templars, just not all of them. It's obviously not the safest but some risk is necessary as you can't really deny a Protoss from taking an early 3rd of their own because they defend with adepts and pylons. Still, TY's variation with early marine production, cyclones and tanks is the safest early 3rd you can play. | ||

The most successful terran were making as few vikings and ghosts as possible until the game got into the much, much later stages. They were mostly relying on multipronged harass / attacks, huge surrounds and/or base trades. | ||
