From the looks of things, taking the gold base seems a good choice. It is defendable, and doesn't put you that way behind even it is sniped, so it's a risk with a big pay-out with low downside. | ||

Especially when they are this easy to defend. The center gold on Vaani is fine, the other two are problematic. But I do like the mechanic of having different style bases, but Zealots suck and protoss has nothing mineral-heavy to compensate for a gold base. | ||

I found that map, the whole gold mineral thing really, gimmicky. Map are never going to be absolutely balanced but they should be made as balanced as possible imo; Things like gold bases make that harder to do. The only reason why a Protoss would cannon rush is to counter a quick expansion before pool by a greedy Zerg. Hence, I don't see cannon rush as being cheesy, as it's purely reactive and doesn't kill you on its own (as compared to 2-rax, 2-gate, or 6pool). Not saying that Protoss doesn't have cheesy builds in early to mid game. But I just feel that in the super early game, Zerg and Terran has more chance to cheese rush or economic greed, and still not be behind substantially (failed 2-rax transition to normal game, cannoned gold base transition to normal expo). | ||

Gold base immortal sentry all in was borderline unstoppable without a major blunder from protoss in pvz, for pvt check out just about any game on habitation station to see what gold base protoss can do. I'm not saying that gold bases aren't good for zerg or terran, I'm saying that acting like protoss didn't have access to some of the most gimmicky bullshit is just completely untrue. | ||
