sOs has earned the distinction of being one of those players that always has that x factor edge in prestigious preparation-based matches. Guy's Mvp-tier in that regard.
Still, I happen to think ByuL isn't your everyday Zerg...
So I saw yesterday that GSL FUCKING SEMIS are not in the TL Calendar, so I added them as my first ever contribution to anything. However the stream does not show for the event in the sidebar, where did I go wrong?

It does now
Was it just slow on detecting it is online, or did somene fix something? (would be good to know if I decide to damage TL.net the next time)

That's a very good question, afaik as long as you entered the stream when sbumitting the event the detection is automatic but sometimes a bit slow?
Byul's play has really become more mature this gsl season, I'm becoming more impressed with him as he shows willingness to play scrappy games like this

ByuL has understood that nonsense is key to success, especially in ZvP

sOs is such a smart guy, if he wins the first couple of sets and gets inside ByuL's head I think he can take it. Although, I think ByuL will make it a great fight 100%!!

made me burst out laughing. byul's like "no you don't go anywhere before you kill me" and sOs is like "if you insist"
Pretty hilarious, sOs opens stargate and shows it. Then he hides a second stargate and makes void rays/phoenixes while also taking a quick third base. Thus allowing Byul to cancel it and have sOs do a 7 gate all-in
Byul is able to get a base denial like that because of how much sOs is investing to tech. If Byul doesn't win now he pretty much has no chance in a longer game assuming relative competency in engagements for both players

Economic warfare at its finest! $O$ forgot to deny/ harass the 4th then he would have won easy but in the end, throwing units after units at $O$ worked for ByuL xD

Yes I forgot about that, to make pure Roach Hydra work against a Protoss with Storm your engagements must be really good. ByuL had some nice positioning with couple of his units on the high ground all the times when he was attacking the 3rd of sOs

Byul best Zerg in the world
Byul/Rogue yeah
He actually kinda is isn't he? Haha, was joking because of the Taeja comment
This is the same build that Life/Rogue utilized in s1 of gsl this year which gets early roach burrow on 2 bases to deny this sort of 10:00 timing attack by forcing the protoss to get tech (detection)

His gsl performance was pretty uninteresting to be honest.
Although his proleague game against flash was good and I think his TvT is showing some nice form of late
I didn't say his GSL run was any good. I am just fondly remembering last seasons run I am just happy he is starting to win in PL again. Find his form in the setting that made him.

2015; when Inno's individual league performance is terrible and his TvT is good.
The odd thing is that the series he played against Cure in the semifinals of last year's was one of the more impressive series he's played in my eyes. (particularly in TvT)

Cure has been looking pretty bad recently tbh
Obviously I'm an apologist but he played pretty good games against Flash and Inno, just lost to good talented players
As it is anyway, Cure was on fire in that gsl s3 last year, which is what I was referring to

I dunno something seems off about his play. His GSL and SSL runs ended badly in challenger and code a and PL hasnt been too hot for him. I am usually used to better play from him. He played solid vs Inno I suppose but Flash kinda trashed him.

Playing 24 hours of StarCraft in a qualifier only to lose to herO in the first round of the actual event probably disgusted him of SC2

To put it in perspective, Cure lost his Code A match to Rain 3-1, which is coincidentally the same score Maru lost to Rain with in the ro8 of code s

He really didn't play poorly at all in those games. He opened hellion banshee against The ironwall of soulkey who scouted the build all 3 times. If I remember correctly, all 3 games ended up being fairly draw out bio vs muta/ling/bane which were largely lost from the openings.
That said I'm a huge apologist so you can take it as it is

He really didn't play poorly at all in those games. He opened hellion banshee against The ironwall of soulkey who scouted the build all 3 times. If I remember correctly, all 3 games ended up being fairly draw out bio vs muta/ling/bane which were largely lost from the openings.
That said I'm a huge apologist so you can take it as it is
no, he got absolutely destroyed because his army control was bad

I think the whole LR confirmed that it was the second birth of the "Cure splits" this day
A bit late now but took a while to find this, it's Nathanias reaction watching Cure "split" his marines.

Taking a smart chance like that is what makes a player like Life so good. I'm really glad that byul has the confidence/mild craziness to take that risk

Why is it that Cure has a reputation of having bad micro off of one series where he was awake for like 24 hours AND 3-0'd snute on like 200 ping
-.-
oh I thought it was because that time he stood all of his marines in place while 30 speed banes were rolling in their direction in his SSL match
It's true Cure's TvZ bio is terrible and lacks micro.
Why do I comment on these LR threads?
Lol, read the whole conversation again. The original point was that Cure had bad micro and army control in his match vs SoulKey, which is a fact. Somehow you tranformed it into "Cure always has and always had bad micro", which no one ever said

Because a lot of protoss players do 2 base all-in's on Iron Fortress and do so often in the nexus first/gateway expand variety.
It's smart because the map is quite good for zerg in 3 base macro games and it's quite unlikely that most zerg players are going to 6 pool a protoss on a zerg favored macro map

His gsl performance was pretty uninteresting to be honest.
Although his proleague game against flash was good and I think his TvT is showing some nice form of late
2015; when Inno's individual league performance is terrible and his TvT is good.
The odd thing is that the series he played against Cure in the semifinals of last year's was one of the more impressive series he's played in my eyes. (particularly in TvT)

I didn't see what he did, but yes. You are supposed to send the zealot to the base you are cannon rushing. I think Byul could just cancel the gold though and it's still not a perfect situation for sOs.

I dunno something seems off about his play. His GSL and SSL runs ended badly in challenger and code a and PL hasnt been too hot for him. I am usually used to better play from him. He played solid vs Inno I suppose but Flash kinda trashed him.
Hm, Idk. He's honestly gotten extremely unlucky in his individual league draws: He drew Soulkey and Rain who are pretty much the antithesis to his playstyle
I suppose he got unlucky with this seasons Rain. But he really should have beaten SK because Cure is pretty good at TvZ but he played woefully bad. I hope he gets back to form, I know I take potshots at you and him sometimes but I actually have like Cure for a long time
He really didn't play poorly at all in those games.
His gsl performance was pretty uninteresting to be honest.
Although his proleague game against flash was good and I think his TvT is showing some nice form of late
2015; when Inno's individual league performance is terrible and his TvT is good.
The odd thing is that the series he played against Cure in the semifinals of last year's was one of the more impressive series he's played in my eyes. (particularly in TvT)

He didnt micro for shit in that series. His splits were terrible
, are about his series vs SK as you mention it yourself ("the ironwall of soulkey"). Sooo...?
It's because the usage of Cure splits derives initially from that qualifier game that he played against snute. I didn't say it right out because that was assumed via the the fact that people have that feeling about his play from that memorable situation.
Honestly even hardcore fans remember dramatic situations where good and bad happen, rather than a consistent level of performance that feels inbetween the two extremes

I do think gold bases are rather imbalanced but you have to give Byul credit for having the guts to pull out a 6 pool in that situation. Great players have qualities like that, and Byul has hung in there against sOs craziness
Oh yes, I like Byul, but that was not a 5 star game and the attitude of a couple of people here is really silly.
Don't act like you're not hyping your favorite players like hell when they win (like when Maru win for example^^)
I don't vote 1star games up to 5, no. Nor do I pretend Iron Fortress or Vaani are remotely close to being an even playing field in ZvP, no

You should consider the type of game though, and at the highest level I very rarely see Protoss win these games without Zerg fucking up.
So does my ladder experience tell me, but that is less valuable of a source !
Of course, that would be a totally different analysis ; but while it means that these maps may be favoring one race or the other depending of the game's scenario, it also means that they are, on average, an even playing field for both races. Thus a win obtained on these maps is not particularly to be dispised, unlike a ZvP win on Daedalus 1.0 for example
Really awesome how far Valdes has gone btw, I think he pairs well with any of the others and brings out the best in them. His analysis might not be super strong, but I think he has become a really good caster otherwise.
hey im sad about him losing too but byul did just outplay him, his postioning and engagement taking was smart, and his long series game plan worked out really well.

I'll slightly disagree with you on that.
It means that the further into a season we get, the 'bad' Zergs that screw up and lose to all-ins because they didn't read them are gone. They do affect the map balance score. Later in the season, the map becomes favored for Zerg but because of the number of games played, it hardly affects the balance score.

No Collosi either. Coincidence?
(it very well may be because sOs is the greatest wing-it player of all times, but well :p)
Who needs collosi when two basing or 3 stargate builds exist though?
If you don't understand the mistake in reasoning you are making here, all hope is lost.
If you do, stop trolling and get a hobby.
Wow toasty, what's wrong with you today?
The player he wanted to win lost, he made a lot of salty posts about it in a low amount of time, got called out for it, tried to play off being a dick, called out on it again, and has proceeded to the final destination of taking the high ground in regards to balance wining.
"These two maps are imbalanced" which is well and good when talking about the average zvp but complaining about losing nexus first vs a 6 pool is stupid as shit in the same way that cannon rush vs 2 hatch before pool on that map is just as stupid a way to lose, and the following game was a failed cheese. Oh well.
Also if you're talking about in depth map analysis (which statistically doesn't make sense from a balance point of view), then you should probably consider investigating the maps and how they perform on a player by player analysis as well and then compare the results.
Damn it, I wanted sOs... I respect ByuL completely and it's been neat to watch him become such a great player but he just doesn't hold that visceral appeal that so many other Zergs do for me (Rogue, Life, Leenock, Dark for example). Oh well... I guess ZvP finals vs Rain could be good.
For the last game, even if sOs had sniped the gold base, would he come out way ahead? Granted, Byul suffered from loss mining time trying to stop the cannons, but Byul already had another base running close behind and sOs' second base would still lag behind from the early pressure investment (and it's not like a normal cannon rush which blocks the Zerg's base and natural expansion).
From the looks of things, taking the gold base seems a good choice. It is defendable, and doesn't put you that way behind even it is sniped, so it's a risk with a big pay-out with low downside.
It depends. Gold bases placed without much thoughts are stupid. Gold bases can also be excellent, like on Habitation.
What. Do you remember tvz, pvz, pvt on habitation?
I remember that it gave us various styles in all MUs, it was a true innovation as a map, all while remaining statistically decently balanced (see here). I'd even argue that most of its flaws, that existed, dont get me wrong, were more caused by it being an axial symetry map than by the gold bases.

Really? I found that map, the whole gold mineral thing really, gimmicky. Map are never going to be absolutely balanced but they should be made as balanced as possible imo; Things like gold bases make that harder to do.

Where is he? Haven't seen him for quite a while
I find that it's one of the rare maps that managed to incorporate a creative and experimental (or "gimmicky" if you wanna call it that) element without being too gimmicky. But that's just personal opinion and, ultimately, a matter of taste d: And yeah I wonder where he is too
Close gold base is unfair to Protosses, clearly. Zerg always has an easier time expanding, while Terran can float CC in and out. And Protoss gateway units suck.
The only reason why a Protoss would cannon rush is to counter a quick expansion before pool by a greedy Zerg. Hence, I don't see cannon rush as being cheesy, as it's purely reactive and doesn't kill you on its own (as compared to 2-rax, 2-gate, or 6pool).
Not saying that Protoss doesn't have cheesy builds in early to mid game. But I just feel that in the super early game, Zerg and Terran has more chance to cheese rush or economic greed, and still not be behind substantially (failed 2-rax transition to normal game, cannoned gold base transition to normal expo).

Gold base immortal sentry all in was borderline unstoppable without a major blunder from protoss in pvz, for pvt check out just about any game on habitation station to see what gold base protoss can do.
I'm not saying that gold bases aren't good for zerg or terran, I'm saying that acting like protoss didn't have access to some of the most gimmicky bullshit is just completely untrue.

Reasons like intelligence you mean.
You can't really mean that Stephano only won because of BL/Infestor. Stephano is a really really smart guy who always found a way to find out how he can use some units strengths to the limit (some would call it "abusing"). And that months before it became the meta or a viable strat. He for sure wasn't a mechanical genius, but he was on top of his game, and deserved several wins and finales.
Stating that it was just because of BL/Infestor would be stupid, he was dominating the european scene and some koreans over years and gave them a run for their money.

Stephano is the only WCS EU Non-Korean finalist since blizzard started their 3seasons/year system. Anyone saying Stephano is only BL/Infestor is stupid.

New Zerg lord? Yeah right buddy. Don't you remember Roro and Sniper? They were supposed to be the new Zerg lords too. Haha you're really funny dude, I'll give you that.
They certainly would have been had we not, you know, switched expansions. I forget which caster set had pointed it out but players like Roro had perfected BL/infestor and would have likely been able to dominate for months/years had nothing changed.

Well I guess players also used the strength of the blink Stalker, SCV pull, 1-1-1, Soul Train, Swarm Hosts etc... right?
And glad to see Stephano dominating these "some Koreans" when he stole a spot from a deserving player's GSL Code S.

Truth hurts, right? And yes, I am a Naniwa fan because he does not rely on "using a unit's strength" to win. In fact, if I recall correctly, Naniwa used his invited Code S spot well and made it to Round of 8 twice.

BYUL, my man! Well done. I'm in a tough place right now...I'm probably the world's biggest Z fanboy, but I don't relish the idea of a ZvZ finals. On the other hand...I cannot under any circumstance cheer for Rain against Curious...wtf?? With a heavy heart I'm wishing for a ZvZ final. EDIT: Especially with curious and his impending military service...I want him to win the whole thing, no doubt about it

lol you don't wanna go down that road;) yea naniwa went 100% monstermode with that 0-6 record in first round of code a vs mediocre zergs after his first invites
Yeah, something that this Stephano kid never even attempted. And that was the time when Protoss was at its weakest anyways.
I feel like the tears of the GSL interviewer at the winner's interview really put this all into perspective. There is that shock factor I guess, to see someone who's been so efficient -- almost robotic -- at what she does, suddenly show a very emotional and human side.
For us, ByuL's victory might be just another win/loss at Liquibet. But for him, it's practicing through those long hard years, riddled with disappointments and with no hope in sight. Now, this championship that he's been yearning for so long, is finally within close reach. He's on the verge of making a big splash in the scene, transforming himself from a faceless Korean to a champion that will be etched in people's minds.
I still remember how duckdeok broke down into tears after winning WCS Europe. There are so many progamers that retire without a single championship title (or even an appearance in a tournament final) to their names. ByuL said in this interview, that this might've been his last year as a progamer if he couldn't make it to the finals. He could easily have been one of them. These guys are hungry for that championship, and I feel it's something that we as audience tend not to notice through their polite and sometimes banal interviews.
I hate him for eliminating PartinG. But any one who works as hard for his/her dream as these guys deserves respect. Some of the player hate in this thread is just outrageous.

Like how everyone remembers Seed, Sniper, Roro and Jjakji ... or what?

Well you just remembered them yourself, didn't you? Everyone remembers Seed, Sniper, RorO or jjakji... precisely because they won. Meanwhile, who actually remembers guys like asd, Clide, IMHappy, or even AcE?

Played some entertaining games and then gracefully fell to the new Zerg lord.
Also FUCK YEA BYUL, now curious just has to join him
Dude you're really funny. At that time period, there were little to no Zergs who did not quote on quote "perfect" BL/Infestors. There are reasons why kids like Stephano "won" tournaments.
Well I guess players also used the strength of the blink Stalker, SCV pull, 1-1-1, Soul Train, Swarm Hosts etc... right?
And glad to see Stephano dominating these "some Koreans" when he stole a spot from a deserving player's GSL Code S.
oh how original, a stephano hater. you wouldn't happen to be a naniwa fan by any chance?
stephano won his fair share of tournaments with roach max vs protoss and ultralisk/infestor vs terran. and used broodlord/infestor way before koreans. go and educate yourself before you spout the hate.

You have absolutely no idea of what you're talking about. I guess you hate him because you ain't him.

No, I just looked up a list of GSL champions on Liquipedia and was utterly surprised that those 4 that I listed were even on the list.
New Zerg lord? Yeah right buddy. Don't you remember Roro and Sniper? They were supposed to be the new Zerg lords too. Haha you're really funny dude, I'll give you that.

The interviewer teared up? How come?
When ByuL mentioned that he wud've retired if he didn't make it to the finals, and that he got a lot of help from his teammates, so he's carrying the team's weight on his shoulders... something like that, and then the interviewer shed a few tears at that point. Should probably watch the last part on VOD, I mean Artosis does a better job explaining.
