#1 ZvZ vs #3 ZvZ (based on aligulac)...there will be roach. Money on Life as he's shown much better offline form in ZvZ.
herO is probably the worst opponent ByuL could get aside from Life. Top-tier PvZ and he should have good insight into ByuL's style of play. The same could be said of ByuL, but I just think he's a tad more reliant on trickery in this matchup than herO is :/
I think herO has the skill to win, but I don't think he'll perform too well. Byul knows how he plays and as shown by Bbyong vs herO in IEM, herO is stubborn to stay his playstyle. Byul has a good chance of beating herO.

Oh fuck I though this started in an hour, not 2 from now... I might not be able to do very much of this. I'd do the whole thing if I could, but I'm at my mother's right now and if she catches me up at 5am watching Starcraft she'll literally snap my laptop in half.

IKR. The skt undershirt is at least alright. Shame we don't get to see it, I did see a pic on twitter of a lol player with the black version which I thought was pretty nice.

yep. I've watched like 30 different esports games and I can safely say nothing compares to the viewing experience that Korean tournament organizers put on

Life zvz's is probably the most readable out of any zerg player. I am pretty confident any amateur zerg player would be able to build order win life 4-0 pretty consistently if they are smart. Dark played on this and got an easy series win. Hopefully hero wins now so we dont have a zvz.

BW ZvZ isn't that much better...same volatile RPS knifefight into mutas if it gets there... it just had more micro.

ladder is not the same as builds you bring to a bo5, but yes i have a positive win ratio vs one of his accounts. I dont know his others. Koreans are very robotic in their approach to the game. When life will 15hatch or 9pool is very very predictable and the skill gap between players will not matter in a 7pool vs 15hatch or 9pool vs non 15hatch.

I think this is also known as more room for you to outplay your opponent and more exciting things to watch as a viewer. Personally I like watching people actually play the game rather than the game more or less being decided by 13 supply. I'll add that as a player it's also incredibly underwhelming to play a series like this, both ZvZ and PvP.

Past mutas, ZvZ is a pretty decent match-up. It just doesn't get there more than once in a blue moon. And also if it did happen regularly I'm not sure if the match-up would be decent.

So I've not watched a lot of SC2 in since Maru won SSL, watching this Kespa Cup is a ton of fun but Hero seems like he just makes stalkers and blinks and since the SH can't force Protoss out of Stalkers anymore Stalkers seem like they are the be all-end all unit for Protoss?

It's not, but it is just not necessary without swarm hosts and templar are just way better.
I don't like it. It's much slower and even more vulnerable to vipers which generally come at some point. Colossi, that is.
yeah, Templar are just better. But Colossi aren't bad either. Not sure about slower. Colossi are usually earlier than storm and more mobile than templar.

You have to be significantly better than your opponent and get infestors. It's the only way I've really seen.
It's kind of funny how we've almost seen Protoss players in Korea become more and more aggressive in almost all matchups with the new "kill the colussus" strats from Terrans. There is such a fundamental vulnerability in having your damage output in one unit and a lot of the players are starting to really appreciate.

I meant that if you're already into +2 blink but also have a robo, templar tech is faster. Templar archives build faster than the robo bay, storm research is faster than colossus range and warping in a templar and waiting for a storm is faster than building a colossus.

Roach/hydra/queen/BL
Roach/hydra/queen/infestor/viper
Surprise muta base trade.
Or Coin flip them out.
So you aim to abuse the early economic lead to get the Roach Hydra numbers up and slow down Protoss as much as possible using Roaches, Burrow and possibly some Mutas. You rapidly tech up to Hive and gauge whether you have time for a BL transition or you need the faster Vipers out. Take an engagement in a massive concave and (literally) blinding cloud half the Protoss army to compensate for Psionic Storm.
Just a small little idea, what about including a 'Silence' to Fungal Growth? Zerg is the only race without anti-spellcaster abilities.

How do other Zergs deal with it?
Zerg is the only race without anti-spellcaster abilities.
its been a month, dont think there is a point to balance anything until at least a few permiers have run through. And Zerg has been doing better than before the patch overal*.
I agree with you, just throwing it up as something to consider and think about for a bit

Why should only zergs learn, and terrans or protosss not? Why they can just pu forcefields or turtle into 200/200 deathballs and a-move win?

I don't typically agree with you, but this is obviously true.
The biggest issue with the game is the fundamental design with the Protoss race, which is essentially impossible to change at this point. At the current moment in time they need to pay more attention to ladder maps (which are utter dogshit atm. s3 2014 was the best map pool we have seen in sc2) and giving Zerg something to deal better with Protoss/Mech armies in the late game.

Blizzard and the community seem to be talking in two different directions. The community has rallied for so many fixes to the inherent design of the game like deathballing, three base capped economies, boring unit interactions, more social aspects to the client, map pools, etc. Then for LotV they emphasize more micro through adding in more abilities and spells which was not needed nor requested and still seem very reluctant to really fix the previously mentioned flaws to the game.

My limited opinion on Blizzard's approach to SC2 and their games is that SC2 represents the closing chapter of their RTS past and once LotV is released they are finished with it. Sure they will release balance patches, continue supporting WCS and other tournaments and hosting Blizzcons with StarCraft, but the more I see Blizzard's approach to the game the more it seems they just don't really care too much and just want to end the series for other, more profitable or fresh games like Overwatch and continuing to release WoW expansions.

As if. Changing sentries needs all other Protoss units to be changed aswell. Else they just go back to playing 1-base all-ins because they can't expand.
I'm sure the new harass-trie is going to solve all problems. Flying forcefields to block overlords from spawning. Sounds like something that Protoss has definitely been lacking.

The problem is Blizzard seems to literally only look at winrates, they don't seem to ever look at how the wins come. I'm saying it's an easy job, but they've screwed the pooch over and over again when it comes to breaking stale meta.
that's not true. They nerfed mines because of that and buffed tanks+merged mech upgrades. They removed Swarm Hosts because of that. They gave the one or other unit they wanted to see more of a slight buff.
I'd take SH back any day over the tedium we have right now with zerg

Yeah, that's precisely the problem. Deeper issues are with the game, unit compositions, and balance, are invisible to them.
And yet no matter how much community outcry there is, Blizzard will continue to ignore and put aside this problem and continue to pretend that because winrates are okay the game is okay. Even with the complete and total backing of TL and the community, we can't even get them to look at or understand a different economy model. We can't get them to actually watch the game and see the problems with it. It's like the completely don't give a fuck, which I'm really thinking at this point they don't
I would like anyone who criticizes the Blizzard for "not listening to the community" to take a step back and (without me predicating the results) think about the following ideas:
- who is "the community"? are there contradictory opinions among people interested in SC2? is TL.net the only SC2 community or are there other places with maybe far more users?
- is everything that the "collective mind" wants/hates this month really the correct assessment? would you like to see all the suggestions you see around the web implemented? would you like to have the game balanced based on what people cry imba most about?
I for one think Blizzard is doing a pretty great job in NOT listening to the community and almost every time they actually do something based on the common opinion, it is a disaster, largely because the "community" is made of randomly chosen people and thus mostly of idiots. I understand that some people who discuss SC2 here on TL are pretty bright in contrast and have a consistent vision of SC2, however should Blizzard listen to them, we would have moreorless BW in 3D with about a hundred of active players.

Alright that's just way too wrong for me

my reference to meta conditions is against Terran, not Protoss obviously.
And I'm right about his terrible decision making..Have you seen the fights he takes off creep and his build orders against Protoss?

I really like 2 base play on that map for Protoss players, Its odd to me that so many have tried to macro 3+ base play against Zergs who have always tried to cancel that third base.
I think herO got caught off guard by the fact that Dark would be so aggressive off 2 base
this map is bullshit for pvz anyway so the loss is fine i guess still not sure why he cancelled that cannon, maybe he thought if an attack were to come it would hit earlier?

It's just that Dark's ZvP is unstable and he is making bad decisions one game then play great in the next, unlike ZvT where he is just too good most of the time.

To be honest, he makes a lot of bad decisions in ZvT, too. It's just that the match up is mostly mechanically focused (and dark has absolutely fantastic mechanics) that it hides a lot of the bad fights he takes.

Roach/Hydra/Viper makes it kinda hard though... I've seen a lot of Protoss dying to that lately while trying to go for the lategame. The last game is a great example why Protoss tend to All-In before Zerg gets to that composition in the recent times.

Nah, you are exaggerating it a lot. He takes bad fights from time to time in ZvT, if he made a lot of bad decisions he would have been rolled over every single time. ZvP is another story though.

I like to compare such a situation in the final between Federer and Djokovic. Federer was on match or vital break point and Djokovic only had one option remaining. He went for a wtf impossible shot that would never work in 99/100 times and prevented Federer to win.
In such a situation he loses either with the wtf shot or to normal play. It doesnt matter. I think close to winning is a much higher pressure situation than close to losing in a final

That also depends on the player. Life usually plays way more seriously when he's down and his opponent is on match point, while other players like sOs can cruise to victory.

This could have been a great moment when one of the best protosses ever finally gets his great success. However it just isn't because you can't seriously say that it is not because of the SH patch. He did not even have to build a SINGLE colossus throughout the entire day. What is worse, it is played on maps that often come from the SH era, the greatest insult being the game 7 on Vaani.

It's still good for players in Korea though to have 3 individual leagues. Not the best but it helps players in Korea who deserve much more for their skill.

I have seen some hero vs SH games where he beat them with pure gateway using mobility on huge maps like Nimbus cross where the Zerg is not supposed to go SH in the first place. But on Vaani, good luck with that.

Being the best in the world does not mean he has to win every tournament.
True. There obviously is still some variance even if you are the absolute best, but it's not like this is the only indication. Life did only ok in proleague and his match vs Terminator was close as well (at least score wise, didn't watch it). He obviously is one of the best, but for THE best there is somethign missing. I will be very surprised if he actually wins GSL/SSL, not because he cannot do it, but because there are enough other players who are a legit threat for him.

Last few really big Tournaments (Korean tournaments + Blizzcon): -> Blizzcon: 1st -> GSL: 1st -> SSL: Ro4 -> Kespa Cup: Ro4 Nobody comes even close to that. He kinda failed at IEM, but that's the only rather poor showing he's had in quite some time.

Proleague was rather poor as well. But yeah sure it's actually a good point. His results were extremely good in the last tournaments. I guess my expectations for "the best player" are even higher though :D

I think of each player's skill as a Gaussian distribution, the player with the skill distribution with the highest mean is the best, but that does not guarantee a win against a player whose distribution has smaller mean, especially in shorter series.
The best player at a given moment is simply the one you put highest if you try to order the players. There are two ways to proclaim Life is not the best: either you believe that ordering is not well defined, or you present a player that is better.

"The best" doesn't mean he's unstoppable. He just has the best results right now overall and almost every match he goes into, he's favored to win (I srsly don't know who'd be favored against him). I'd say this makes someone the best player. That might change if he drops out of GSL/SSL, but right now there's little room for discussion on this matter, imo. No one does better than Life -> Life is the best player right now.

Only once he got cured by Snute. Before that he was not that good.

Technically, Zest at his peak was the best PvSH.
Since Zest never had to face Snute, there is no proof of that!

Everyone's definition of "best" is different and everyone is biased in some way. This makes it impossible to declare someone the best

Snute SH sucked he is and was a tourtle zerg =(. SK was way better and zest owned him. SK was zest bitch.
Dark 3-0 Life is really surprising to me, and herO always seems to pull out a win when I don't want him too. I'd love for Dark to win a championship sometime soon, really I just want to see more of his sexy ZvT though.

If you let Snute go to SH without killing him before he had the best lategame SH. SK's SH style is exactly what herO loved to destroy before he had faced Snute the first time and got kicked out IEM by him.
