Cut down on the balance/design whining please. |
Oh no it actually is a PvP finals again? Poor IEM lol.

If you think I'm supposed to be impressed by Zest's play during that series, then we must have been watching different things. Watching such sloppy play by Zest (against both Hydra and Innovation) basically strengthened my opinion about what kind of a player he is. I'm not going to go into a long analysis of what I think, as it's pretty much already been said in this series, but out of the 4 semifinalists, 3 of them advanced by outplaying their opponents - Trap, Dark, and Bbyong - while Zest played pretty terribly but happened to run into opponents - Hydra and Inno - who played even worse. I'm hoping for a Bbyong vs. Dark finals, but this tournament has been very unpredictable. I'll be happy as long as the games are good; I don't want to see more silver-league play like Zest v Hydra or Zest v Inno. Anyway, since you were so concerned with where I was, I'm about to watch the semis now. I don't really hate you. You've been absolutely relentless in trying to expose Zest as an overhyped patchtoss. Now he's shattering that notion. Gotta take your licks. I have no idea how you took away from Zest's play in this tournament that he's "shattering that notion." Zest played horribly against Hydra. He played horribly against Innovation. And he played poorly against Bbyong, but got very lucky in a few spots. Meanwhile he's losing to TANGTANG to get sent to Code B, and losing to DeParture in GSL/SSL qualifiers, and losing to Creator x2 (and all of KT's ace matches to boot). I'm just completely mindblown at how you can look at Zest's play, especially in this tournament, and take away from that that he's somehow shattering the notion of what I say he is: a mediocre protoss. I feel the complete opposite way - his sloppiness and poor play was clear throughout the entire tournament, and is only strengthening what I've been saying about Zest. You've been absolutely relentless in trying to expose Zest as an overhyped patchtoss. Now he's shattering that notion. Gotta take your licks. He's definitely not as godly as people make him out to be. Exactly. That's why I took up the cause of trying to spread awareness of how delusional Zest fans were. Up until now, it seemed like nobody but I could actually see that Zest wasn't anywhere near as good as the KT fanboys (Otherworld, Elentos) and Zest fanboys (DarkLordOlli) make him out to be. I like Zest kind of because I think he's a good looking dude. Am I wrong on that account? There's absolutely nothing wrong with liking Zest. There's nothing wrong with liking Zest because he's a good looking guy either. But any player who receives a level of hype (as I've repeatedly said in the past) that I don't think they've quite earned I will post about and point out the truth.
Hype is superficial and used as a propaganda / marketing gimmick in most cases, organic attention around a player or an issue or what ever is entirely anecdotal and depends entirely on how much research a viewer does prior to watching a series. You can't "earn" hype, either other people hype you up in alignment with their interests, or you market yourself which by definition is an inflation of your current or potential ability.
The truth is we have a finite statistical distribution of players with approximate skill levels competing in small sample size tournaments where anyone can win and anyone can lose due to any number of factors which the audience is not privy to and can't account for, there might be a few statistical outliers but most of that is just confirmation bias and random mathematical chance outside of the player's control (brackets, traveling, tournament scheduling, outside help, training experience etc). We might as well just put up the aligulac and not write any articles at all.

I don't like him because he's an arrogant guy. If you read/watch his interviews in Korean, he sounds more arrogant than Parting and that's something. He's gotten better, but his attitude always bugged me a little. sOs is good all around (when he's not slumping) and he's humble and (apparently) very positive. Now that's a lovable personality.

I feel the complete opposite way - his sloppiness and poor play was clear throughout the entire tournament, and is only strengthening what I've been saying about Zest. I just strongly disagree with you and find the extent to which you go to rip on Zest and KT (which I'm not really even a fan of) amusing and I'm simply breaking balls. He's definitely not as godly as people make him out to be. Exactly. That's why I took up the cause of trying to spread awareness of how delusional Zest fans were. Can you kindly stop with all the "omg Zest so hawt" gushing? Every second post I see out of you is about Zest's appearance. We get it, you're in love with him. Your passion would be better served by writing in a diary.

As I've said many, many, many times in the past, and am getting tired of saying, I simply do what I do because I feel that Zest is the player that is the most overhyped for his accomplishments, and whose fans are the most delusional about how good he actually is. Flash would be the second on that list (which is why some people think I ''hate'' KT), but I understand that hype because of Flash's success in Brood War, so I don't post about that that much. But any player who receives a level of hype (as I've repeatedly said in the past) that I don't think they've quite earned I will post about and point out the truth. It just so happens to be Zest from 2014-now. And from reading this thread, it seems that more and more people are starting to see what I saw a long time ago. So perhaps a new player becomes the one I see as the most overhyped and over-celebrated in relation to their true success, but until that is no longer Zest, he will continue to be the target of my raising awareness campaign. Think of what I do as public service.
So your sig has nothing to do with hating KT but being altruistic by exposing the overhyped players Flash and Zest. Got it.
You have some serious selective bias when it comes to evaluating Zest's play. He just beat Inno who is supposed to have one of the best TvPs. Your point is basically moot considering he is making it to the finals of stacked tournaments a year after being a "patch toss". He is/was in a slump but he won't be fading out like many other one hit wonders. He's too good and one of the most clutch players in SC2.

Because every victory is created equal and "bracket luck" is a thing that doesn't exist.
I'm not calling Zest a patch toss, just calling your argument less than sound.

You don't have to hype up INnoVation's accomplishments to me, he's my favorite player and I know them quite well. INnoVation played like shit today. That is the only reason Zest won. All of his victories looked like flukes.
I actually cannot remember a less deserving premier tournament finalist than Zest at this IEM.

Oh I know it is. At this point it's like being dragged down into the mud with Sackofwetmice. In any case a victory is a victory. If Zest wins this tournament it's because of himself. We can argue about whether he had easy brackets but the fact of the matter is the people he faced were the best players in the tournament on that specific day. Sack of wet mice chooses to be selective in the games he picks to evaluate Zest's play. Zest is obviously in a slump (TANGTANG pls) but he is still absolutely capable of playing at an extremely high level.
The best players find a way to win even when they are not playing at their absolute best. This is what separates multiple time champions like Mvp, Life, MC, and Zest (and no I am not putting Zest on that pedestal yet) from guys like soO, Rain, Innovation, and Flash. That actually hurt me to say because I like all those players.

I haven't seen these interviews live but I bet some are lost in translation. Zest has always been a "confident" guy even before his rise fame. However, sometimes his answers in gsl interviews made me cringe and he didn't seem to have respect for other players.
For example, in his interview before his match against True, Zest seemed as though he had already won the game and made sure True knew that. I don't know if they're close enough to make mean jokes, but playing around with one's profession is definitely not cool.
