finally some information super excited for youmacon this year!!
|
Yeah, should be great, we have a good crew this year. We are also attempting to find ways to augment the prize pool so there is a chance it could grow or we could add more payment tiers Spread the word!
|
hope you get lots of attendats :D
|
Is this bring your own computer or not?
|
It is not, there will be stations set up to play at for the tournament, you may bring your own peripherals as in any tournament that do not require external power.
|
What are the specs of the computer? I might bring my laptop depending on the specs.
|
Let me check into that for you wih the tech crew. I will also find out if it would be possible to have a spot for people to hook up a laptop and get back to you. I would guess not based on space, power and network but I will find out for sure.

This is what I was told "They are mostly i5s with 8gb ram and 760 card or better"
Also there will not be the ability for participants to use their own PC/laptop to compete in the actual tournament.
And lastly, Happy Birthday :D

I look forward to another paycheck and welcome all challengers

Hype! Really glad to see it's the same casters and tourny admins again! You guys were amazing last year!
Is the tournament planned to run past the youmacon end time on sunday? Just worried because last time the final day was just loser's final and grand final (didn't even go past the first of two possible matches) or 11 games and it ended past 5pm, and with quarter, semi, and finals being held on one day it would be 7 Bo5s shortest, only counting those in the winners' bracket. Or maybe not all the games will be casted one by one this time?
That would make things run a lot faster, I rather did not like how much time the tournament ate up out of Youmacon last year, though maybe that's just me, someone who previously went to Youmacon for things other than a tournament (I think I played from 11am to almost midnight on saturday straight). If not as many matches will be casted as last year, I just hope as many people can have a chance casted on stage as possible cus that's one thing that makes it so fun IMO.
Also just throwing out an idea, I'm all for evening out the prize pool more to the lower places -- I think for this kind of tournament, having even a $10 reward for the top 8 or something would be great. Not only would it not affect the top four's prize very much, it would encourage more people to participate in the tournament for fun even if they don't think they'll win. That way it's realistic for lower level players to join the tournament and have fun and try to get into the top 8 and get their entry fee paid back, and the increase of players could compensate by increasing the pot. But maybe that's not the direction this tournament is going for.
Maybe I'm just rambling but I just wanted to share some thoughts and concerns to make this year as good as it can be X) There's a lot of different things to worry about for such an event so I understand a middle ground will have to be found and some things prioritized over others. Either way I'm sure it'll be awesome again!
Edit: Also, last year when the game room was getting packed up before the tournament finished, aside from it being slightly distracting with all the take down crew moving about, the decrease in sound made it possible to hear the commentary, and it was very hard to focus and try to ignore it.
|
Also there will not be the ability for participants to use their own PC/laptop to compete in the actual tournament.
id assume we also cannot do the same for just playing in the game room say thurs/fri night right?
it's pretty hard to get computers late at night
is anyone interested in meeting up thurs/fri night? maybe play some 2s/ go drinking??

Hey Yoshi! Let me tackle some of your thoughts:
Prize pool: I agree with you, however we also want to make it worthwhile for players to travel for the event. I am in favor of paying as many as possible. As such we are looking to aquire additional sponsorship which is in the works, if that comes through we could be able to do just that, as well as sweeten the pot for the top as well. Look for news on that in the next couple of weeks.
Admin Crew: Last year the administration side of the tournament was a mess, the admins either were not very experienced and weren't so...punctual. This let to us producing, commentating, streaming AND administrating the tournament. Its a miracle it went off as good as it did, but it was very hard on us having to wear 4 different hats. HOWEVER, this year we have recruited our very own admin staff that is experienced and capable. So it will be organized, expedious and easy to find out what you need, when you need it.
Tournament running long: This was largely a side affect of the lackluster admin crew last year. We expect this year will not be the same result. We ended up having too many matches on sunday, and running series that were too long. Our goal this year will be to likely get to the point where the semis through Grand finals will be held on sunday this year so the people that do not make it that far are not forced to hang around, or can do other Con event related things on sunday.
Tournament taking all your Con time: If you are in it to win it, plan to spend most of your time at the tournament
Hearing Commentary: We are going to do a better job of working that out this year, with either headsets or being farther away from the players.
Overall if you thought last year was great, this year will blow your mind!

As we get closer to the event I will try and nail down from the Youmacon staff how many stations we will have dedicated to SC2, IIRC last year the stations were pretty open thurs/fri evenings.
The big issue that really prevents people from bringing their own stuff is space, there simply will not be extra tables to set up a system on.

Thanks for the response wingnut!

Awesome! Also I really like the change to Bo5s. While I was fine with finals and beyond being Bo7, last year I felt really tired upon hearing the semis and finals would be changed to both be Bo7 X)
Also about the volume: Actually on 100% with those headphones, surprisingly I could not hear the commentary at all when playing, while being a good volume when spectating. It was only when all the ambient noise went away. I was also surprised that the max volume somehow didn't hurt my ears.
I wasn't aware of all the issues going on, on my side it was a very satisfying experience. For example, I expected the computers to be shared between games and that none would be open due to all the LoL players, but they were able to be reserved just for SC2 and later on for competitors to practice haha.
Any improvement from last year would be impressive!

Can spectators watch without having to purchase an event badge?
|
On September 19 2014 14:20 Brasso wrote: Can spectators watch without having to purchase an event badge?
Sure! --> http://twitch.tv/sc2ctl There will not be a big spectator area so if you just want to watch that my be the better option. We will have a large TV with the streamed match on display but we have been told there will not be a large spectating area due to the room being smaller this year.
Also ..We have some exciting sponsorship in the works...that is all for now.
|
Ill see ya there Winter
|
I shall be there. At least I want to. HOPE TO SEE YOU GUYS THERE!
|
This year I think we are going to use a Google hang out to coordinate with the players since they will not be as big of a spectator area. This will allow us to notify players of upcoming matches and whatnot. We have one started if anyone is for sure going to be attending if you would like to PM me your Gmail account or your name to find you I can add you to the Google hang out. Also if you plan to attend let us know here and you're in game name so we can look to expect you. In the next week or so we will probably be posting the time that you must be registered and present by to play
|
Stoked to attend my first Youmacon! Bringing my camera for photos and some stickers to hand out! WOOOOO.
|
A wild prize pool appears. Mythlogic uses transfuse. It's super effective!
|
GUYS, I just updated the post with LOTS of stuff
First of all, the tournament is now sponsored by:
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/oWIeBP9.png)
They have bumped the prize pool by $250, so we have updated the distribution, and we will now be paying the top 6! Also the top 3 will get a sweet Razer mouse, and the top 6 will get a mousepad and T-Shirt courtesy of MYTHLOGIC! We are super excited to have them on board, we hope you will show them some love by following them on twitter and let them know you appreciate them sponsoring this event!
Also we have updated some important registration information, including the times that you have to be onsite at the game room to sign up for the tournament, the time the bracket will be announced and the time the tournament will start.
Also we are going to be using a google hangout to coordinate matches, if you intend to play, send me a PM with your google info and we can get you added to that.
Be sure to check out the OP and give it a good solid read as there is LOTS of info there. Also help us out and share this around by whatever means you can! It should be great and we look forward to seeing you there!

What happens if a competitor uses a mouse which must change the windows mouse sensitivity to 4/11 to get ~800 dpi? Is this forbidden in the rules, because this might be a big problem for those with mice like the Razer Abyssus which does not have a 800 dpi setting built in.
|
Users are allowed and encouraged to change / verify mouse sensitivity settings in windows before a match to suit their preference.
|
is their a league standard of one to play in this? because i am in plat league, and would really like to participate in this????
|
No there is not, anyone can play, so do it! Sorry It took me a couple days to get back, I was away for a few.
People, the hype is real, less than two weeks. Be sure anyone you know who might be interested knows about this!
|
More and higher prizes? The 5th and 6th prize is awesome! GJ with the sponsors :D My friend was on the fence about joining again but that convinced him to play. Hope to see even more players this year!
|
The MYTHLOGIC prizes have arrived! Mice, Tshirts, Mousepads and CASH.
Lets do this!
|
|
Where can I find the brackets?
|
|
|

The best sc2 event i've ever been to thanks!
Shoutouts to the people who played late night drunk 2s with me had a blast. GGs to everyone I played and special shoutout to the other sc2 stream 'grill' ,yoshi, was awesome meeting you I wish I would have gotten a selfie with you!
does anyone know who was taking photos or even better were I can look at them?

www.twitch.tv/sc2ctl
Also will be uploaded to youtube at WingnutStarcraft
@Nel-
Had lots of fun meeting you too, and darn I forgot about a picture haha! But we were talking in front of the sc2 cam for quite a bit X) Grill power! For now people are sharing their photos here: http://forums.youmacon.com/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=15486 https://www.facebook.com/events/259821457510587/
There should be more "official" photos posted in a few days on the FB
@all the staff and the players
I had a blast watching the games and interviews, hanging out and cheering with all of you. The tournament also progressed in a very timely manner even with my end-of-the-spectrum 1 hour games. One thing I actually like about there being no stage is it makes me less nervous and it's fun to be able to watch over someone's shoulder while they're playing their match. Also I tried to come back to the game room for the finals but I wasn't allowed back in haha T_T
HBOL (or anyone else), I don't think I got your char.code so hit me up, I'd be up to play 1v1s/teams/customs anytime!
@desrow I believe in the carriers too
Long post, I guess everything I do is long eh?
|
Glad you were able to make it, we wouldn't be able to be late on sunday without you :D
vods will be up on http://youtube.com/wingnutstarcraft as I get to cutting them from the twitch vods, its tedious so they will be showing up slowly. Give a sub on youtube and you will be notified.
Also Yoshi, your sig there "if all-in fails, all-in again" ... I don't know why you have that there because I don't think you have ever done an all-in.
Great event once again! Would love feedback from participants/viewers of the production/stream.
Thanks.
|
I love the idea of all-inning (unfortunately I'm really bad at it so yeah I never do em haha!) but also in the metaphorical sense of "never give up"!
The only [negative] feedback I have is
1) When Winter was playing his match vs desrow, there was ~5 people crowding around him while he was playing, trying to talk to him, very loudly backseat coaching him, shouting, etc. I was right next to Winter but I was playing my game too so I told my friend to tell them he's playing a tournament match and not to bother him but they didn't understand (they didn't seem to be native english speakers). Thinking back I should have told my friend to talk to a tournament admin to take care of it. I don't know if Winter even noticed because he was so concentrated, but maybe everyone can help keep an eye on things like this next time.
2) The table is a few inches too high for the ideal posture, but it wasn't terrible, considering I had the longest games. I think spyderslayer sat on two chairs X)
