HyuN should be a lock for the Ro8 from recent results and I expect Revival or Alicia depending on their form. Sorry NesTea but I don't feel this is your day.

That was like watching Revival cross the street and then a car is about to hit him. Then BAM, the car explodes, but the debris are flying everywhere, but Revival fucking dodges only to hit his head into a fire hydrant. He then gets up and is mugged by guys with guns and is about to get shot but then one of the thugs backstabs his friends and Revival gets the fuck out of there, but is then chased by a pack of ravenous dogs. He crashes through a butcher shop, throws the meat at the ravenous dogs to only have the butcher try to stab him, only to have the previous thugs start shooting up the butcher and the police coming in to shoot the thugs. After surviving all of that Revival, walks home to only have a piano fall out of the sky and almost land on top of him until mutas swoop in from nowhere and die for him.

Wow. After ToD says "10 pool" on stream - ON STREAM, nobody even said it in the thread - you appear.
I like to imagine that Stuchiu has a secret lair where he has multiple machines scanning for the mention of ten pools all across the globe just so that he can be there.

I imagine it to be more like Spider Sense. He just has a supernatural ability to tell when someone is talking about a 10 Pool.

Protoss used hallucination cause it was free.
Basically no one listened to Nestea when he told everyone the power of contanimate despite 4-0ing losira in GSL

Well zerg macro is not like terran macro, which actually takes some mechanics. The difference was his queen usage and Revival's over-aggression. Hyun should have been dead twice by my reckoning, but he held on with some very clutch fights.
Just wish roach fights were less deterministic, pure roach ZvZ is so predictable I can pretty much stop watching once one player maxes out with some key upgrades.

Hydras never come out in ZvZ anymore, after they were used a lot more after the patch went through, it's just went back to pure roach v roach. Not sure why tho.

Nostalgia, if that is the case it is basically gifting Hyun ZvZ.

I don't get it at all. Even my plat-dia understanding of the game says if Revival built a hydra den when he first went across the map (the battle vs 7 queens) and just made roach hydra vs hyuns roach he would have rolled him.

hey that's not fair to say about ZvZ roach wars after that match. it's usually true but revival had a supply AND upgrade lead and hyun's mechanics (being able to hold revival off until he could get a round of injects off so that he could bring the queens over to fight). that was a heroic hold, most pro zerg players wouldn't be able to do what he did. like you said, he held with some clutch fights!

Roach Donut.
Yeah that happens once every 1000th game or so, and only because the other player screws up. It's so much of; player 1 gets a lead, gets 2+ attack and 200/200, while player B is stuck around 150-160, Player A attacks and wins. Attempt to transition when behind usually just results in instant death too.

I don't think either player can float the resources to make the hydra den and then make a high enough hydra count to make a diff without dying to roach

Hydras need speed and range to be effective, and you need at least 10+ to be worthwhile. It's just too much of an investment on that kind of eco. Your opponent will just bludgeon you by spamming roaches. He could have done when he was ahead true, but I'm pretty sure he though he could just kill Hyun if he massed roaches and attacked.

That would make sense. But shouldn't Revival be safe (relatively, it still is Hyun) if he had just traded and ran instead of trying to push the issue? Hyun was really low on roaches
Revival spawns in the top right Hyun spawns in the top left
2:00 Hatchery after spawning pool from both players.
3:00 Queen for both players. Revival has more APM.
4:00 HyuN mined some gas and researched zergling speed. HyuN sending a drone to the gold base, taking it.
5:00 Roach warren! and an evolution chamber and extractor for Revival. Lair for Revival as well as a second evolution chamber.
6:00 Revival scouts the gold. HyuN got a lair as well and a roach warren. HyuN sends lots of drones to the gold.
8:00 HyuN 68 vs Revival 77 Roach speed and +1 attack from both players. Revival takes his gold base. Roach roach. HyuN getting even more roaches.
9:00 HyuN 118 vs Revival 111 Revival never used his second evolution chamber. Revival attacks and gets promptly surrounded, losing roaches to HyuN's roaches. HyuN chases Revival's roaches with his roaches to the watchtower. 20 zerglings! and more roaches for HyuN.
10:00 HyuN 121 vs Revival 105 HyuN clearing creep. HyuN sends roaches and his zerglings to Revival's general bases. Transfuses on Revival's roaches. HyuN reinforces with zerglings. More roaches for both players. HyuN killing more roaches of Revival.

At least muta/ling/scourge was fast paced and really micro intensive. Massed roach fights are like watching two drunk hillbillies at a local tough man contest in rural Oklahoma wing haymakers until one of them falls over.
Also Hyun made more roaches than Revival, and is therefore your winner.

Well we did nerf fungal.
Soon, roaches are un-fungle-able. (Too many hyphens for comfort)
What would be a decent way to change the meta from pure Roach? A slight buff to Hydras?
Nah, they buffed hydras already, don't want to be OP against Protoss (actually, that would be nice ). I think maybe slightly nerfing the spore crawler that they buffed last year.

Little more complicated than that, he had to concave slightly at least.

I would be curious about the repercussions of giving infested terrans upgrades again. Maybe not actual range/armor upgrades but something at the infestation pit similar to hi sect auto tracking or durable materials

Revert or lower the asinine spore buff. Mutas are now limited to overlord cleanup, it took such a massive chunk of potential strats out of the game. I'd watch muta/ling over mass roach any day.

Ling/bane knifefights was the best kind of ZvZ of all time, all games. I like your roach analogy, though, quite fitting.

Yeah, it was exciting and games could change direction at the drop of a hat. A player who was down could turn everything around with a few magic bane hits. Now, if you are down on roaches and your 2+ is late, you can hope your opponent engages like a clown and not much else.

It'd be very interesting to see how the old maps would be played nowadays.. And even in LotV
Has there in the history of SC2 ever been a like 40 minute knifefight that never went above 25 drone total saturation the entire game? 38 minutes of pure, non stop action? That'd be instant #1 of the year.

There are old maps and ones that I think warrant revisiting, Antiga saw the ranged queen buff, among a number of other buffs, but I think it would be playable yet.

The closest though is DRG vs Effort.
I had a TvT like that on ladder in WoL… man that was a strange game.

You are right, it would have a deleterious effect on Scarlett's ZvZ, and we both want to avoid that.
Good vocab word, what is the Swedish equivalent for deleterious so I can feel like I learned something.
I guess skadlig or perhaps fördärvlig.
Edit: Swedish is a shit language though, not enough synonyms. I always feel like a cave man writing in Swedish, even though I've always had top grades for it. Buff Swedish imo.

And Swedish is really terrible. I've pretty much transitioned to doing everything in English, it's just better in every way but for the lack of "lagom"

Your description of furniture is exceptional though.
Its funny when I think about it. None of the WoL zergs beyond Symbol/Leenock/Curious never adapted to the HotS changes to Protoss in ZvP. So a lot of them have just stick to muta base trades making them super 1-dimensional and beatable.

Ouch, spoken like a true, clog-donning Dutchman. No mention of Guitarcheese or some of the other NA ladder heroes.
The last time Nestea beat a Korean offline was in January. And that only sort of counts because it was Legend. The time before that was against Select in the Red Bull Training Grounds last July.

America has a tendency to steal all the talent from other countries. I'm Canadian, so I know
I'm perfectly okay with them taking Bieber though.
What if they take Rotterdam by mistake?
His accent is funny enough to be mistaken for a Canadian.
There is no canadian accent out there which sounds as silly as rotterdam. even newfies
To the average American, anyone who is white and speaks English with a funny accent is Canadian.
As a Minnesotan I resent that, Canadian English sounds all too normal to us. Michelle Bachmann's district notwithstanding, were you to replace our currency with the loony it would barely be noticed.

Just give us a chance coach, we are sick of comprising the entire US Olympic Curling team, and most of the Hockey team.

When I think of Alicia I think of the 3 stargate lots of voidrays/ chargelots that gave him a lot of success last year. Glad to see he's still bringing it out.
Nestea spawns in the bottom right Alicia spawns in the top left
2:00 Forge first for Alicia. Nestea scouts and goes pool first.
3:00 Nestea taking his third base first. Alicia expands and gets a cannon. Alicia scouts the third base.
4:00 Nestea takes his natural. Queen going to the third base. Cybernetics core on the way for Alicia.
5:00 Stargate on the way for Alicia. Nestea building lots of drones. Overlord goes for the natural, but the stargate is elsewhere.
6:00 Oracle for Alicia, cancelling +1 ground attack. Nestea hasn't scouted the stargate.
7:00 Nestea loses 7 workers to an oracle, which doesn't quite die. Nestea getting spore crawlers. Alicia taking a third base. Void ray killing some overlords. +1 air weapons from Alicia.
8:00 NesTea 77 vs Alicia 67 Nestea getting a lair. Alicia building two more stargates. Roach warren and evolution chamber are built under the oracle. Void ray kills another overlord.
9:00 NesTea 91 vs Alicia 79 Spire for Nestea. Nestea finishes off the Oracle. Alicia moving some void rays to the bottom of the map.
10:00 NesTea 119 vs Alicia 99 Infestation pit on the way for Nestea as well as more spore crawlers, probably swarmhosts. Nestea moving out with some zergling/roach. Alicia charges up a void ray against some zerglings, but Nestea backs off

Muta switches are so overhyped. It should never work against a protoss who is ahead on eco and isn't an idiot. Mass muta switches is a great way to look kind of cool before dying.

31:00 NesTea 161 vs Alicia 200 Alicia is completely ready for mutalisks but is out of position as Nestea runs them into the natural. Nestea kills a lot of the phoenixes but the army backs up into the mutalisks and Nestea is pretty much cornered.
33:00 NesTea 119 vs Alicia 192 Alicia gets Nestea down to about 12 mutalisks and moves out again. Nestea trying to counterattack with swarmhosts. Nestea has some infestors and kills some phoenixes but loses the infestors to the ground army.
35:00 NesTea 77 vs Alicia 187 Alicia attack-moving into Nestea's last mining base and Nestea GG's! Alicia wins 2-0!

Muta switches are so overhyped. It should never work against a protoss who is ahead on eco and isn't an idiot. Mass muta switches is a great way to look kind of cool before dying.

Considering Alicia barely lost his army and had his Stargate infrastructure it wouldn't have worked either way. And as you said, it's a nice way to go out in flames but likely won't do much unless you inflict game-ending amounts of damage to the Protoss.

Well if Z does it all the time, it wont work. But if you don't start phoenix as he starts mutas, you are pretty dead in most situations. Even when ahead. So it depends on meta... And if the specific player does it a lot.

Mutas are great if you can manipulate the game to where they can be effective, i.e. keep toss on three bases, make them commit huge amounts to phoenix while you expand everywhere. In the position he was in this game, even if Nestea gets 50 mutas before Alicia has a single phoenix out, it still shouldn't work. Just stay alive, get phoenix, win by default.

I don't remember any muta switches in 2014 by jaedong? But then I only remember the 6 pylons and the 4 gate.

Yeah the game was over. No more mining bases for Nestea and the muta switch made him broke. So ofc he cannot win at that point. Even if P does a basetrade, there is no way for Nestea to get back. I was just saying in general. I dislike mutas. Which must mean they are good

Well since the two zerg styles that work in the late game against P are mass muta and hosts, I guess we could nerf mutas if we buffed hosts, maybe we could make the locusts flying units. Sound good?

Serious question, why does everyone say early SC2 was bad? No one went macro? Everyone did SCV pulls and one base raven plays? No splits?
Generally poor mechanics(Boxer floating 1k+ minerals on 2 bases constantly), primitive meta, no one knew how to engage properly(zerg would a-move banes into marauders, which would still work because no one spread their bio anyway). Tons of cheese, some fairly broken stuff had yet to be fixed(void ray speed comes to mind). Also the maps were beyond horrific. Blizzard maps are generally shit but the early map pools were in a league of their own.

I actually played on XNC as my first map ever. I thought it was ok, although the gold third PF was bogus. I'm also pretty sure the natural was horrifically open.
So you say that people ran banes into 'rauders. I understand if splitting was bad because people didn't think it was important or didn't practice it, but... since banes do splash. Why wouldn't you split? Banes do bonus damage to light. Why would you waste them on non-light units?
I only started watching SC2 seriously in 2013 S2, I want to emphasize I'm not being a tool on purpose but, did people really not read unit abilities and damage?
Didn't Boxer have good mechanics in BW? I suppose he was creative more than anything. You'd think that with multiple building selection, the BW pros would master the macro. Isn't that why Flash's macro is so good, it carried over from BW, while his game sense etc didn't port quite so well?

BW and SC2 are very different games with very different mechanics. Also, many of the pros who went to SC2 right away were the b-teamers of BW who couldn't make it in BW

Basically why Fruitdealer winning was so important to prove the game wasn't totally broken (look at how massively Zerg got buffed the next tournament - they were close to unplayable before that. In fact there's a great article on TL about how Fruitdealer managed to win GSL despite all the handicaps by basically mind-gaming everyone).
Also, why I think MKP - Kyrix was the most important series in SC2 history since it proved that you can beat your 'hard counter'*, which people at the time complained wasn't possible and made SC2 a stupid game (which it would have been if they were right).
* Edit: WIth Micro! which some people also didn't think could exist in SC2 either for some strange reason (haters I guess?)

One important thing to note is that back then, BW was still the big dog. Everyone who were still good played BW, only B-teamers, faded legends and foreigners played SC2 pretty much. When Kespa switched over to Sc2 fully, with all their experience and infrastructure, the average skill level went up by about 9001%.
The players back then were just less refined and generally less good. It's like early BW compared to the 2006-2009 era.
Revival spawns in the top right Nestea spawns in the top left
2:00 Hatchery first for Nestea versus a spawning pool and hatchery for Revival. Gas/pool for Nestea.
3:00 Queens for both players. Nestea researching zergling speed.
4:00 Nestea taking the gold. 2 extractors for Revival.

Alicia spawns in the top left HyuN spawns in the bottom
2:00 Alicia going nexus first against hatchery first. Gateway followup.
3:00 My tweet is shown on stream. HyuN getting a spawning pool. Double gas for Alicia.
4:00 Cybernetics core on the way. Sentry on the way for Alicia. Alicia building a forge. HyuN researching zergling speed.
5:00 Alicia hiding a probe in the opposite main. Zerglings for HyuN are poking. Two gateways at Alicia's natural expansion, walling off.

8:00 Alicia 77 vs HyuN 96 Roach/ling for HyuN. No probes for Alicia. Alicia lands good FFs and a time warp. Drone pull gets wo sentries.
9:00 Alicia 77 vs HyuN 76 HyuN tries to surround with zerglings, but Alicia brings in +1 zerglings. HyuN trying roaches + roach speed.
10:00 Alicia 85 vs HyuN 69 Alicia walks into the natural. HyuN pulls more drones. Alicia dances his stalkers. HyuN has literally nothing left and GG's.

I want colossi in my ZvT's.
Bingo. You think your Blink all-in can roll over my Roaches? Not if you run into my WIDOW MINE!

Should be scaled by game time, the following units being available at the following times and later:

Nah I wanna send a drone out at the beginning of the map and have a tempest attacking my opponent at 3 minutes.
The key is, the map can't be littered with the presents. They have to be small and tucked away, so they're not easy to find and access. And maybe in order to access the unit, the actual contents of it have to be a thing that gets mined, then once it gets mined, the unit immediately spawns at the base it's mined to.
Revival spawns in the bottom right HyuN spawns in the top left
2:00 Both players going hatchery first. Gas before spawning pool for HyuN, spawning pool for Revival.
3:00 Queens for both players. Speed for HyuN, who's still mining a little gas.
4:00 24 zerglings for HyuN. Revival getting drones.
5:00 Revival walling with 2 evolution chambers and a roach warren. Zerglings moving across the map.
6:00 HyuN breaks into the natural and kills a queen and 19 drones. More drones in Revival's main die. Third base for HyuN.
7:00 Revival moving out with roaches. More zerglings get into Revival's natural and Revival backs off.
8:00 Revival 47 vs HyuN 70 HyuN has killed 27 drones and has roaches now. HyuN ahead 39-25 in workers. Revival walls off with roaches.
10:00 Revival 65 vs HyuN 85 HyuN finishing a lair. HyuN goes for a small attack which leads to a roughly even trade. Second evolution chamber for HyuN. Revival moving out with 20 roaches and zergling reinforcements.

11:00 Revival 84 vs HyuN 116 Revival moving into HyuN's natural and not quite managing to break in. More zerglings, but lots of Revival's remaining roaches die and he GG's. HyuN takes a 1-0 lead!

Sign us on for LotV design team, Blizzard.
If I had any programming or caoding knowledge, I'd say we should make a custom map or an Arcade game out of it.
Revival spawns in the bottom left HyuN spawns in the top right
2:00 Hatchery first followed by a spawning pool for Revival. HyuN getting a hatchery first followed by gas/pool.
3:00 Both players getting zerglings. Spine crawler for Revival.
4:00 Both players moving out with two zerglings. Revival tries to scout with his zerglings but HyuN denies it. Stream goes offline??
7:00 Revival 53 vs HyuN 52 stream back online Roach warren for Revival as well as Lair. HyuN getting a third base. Stream goes offline again.
9:00 Revival 82 vs HyuN 100 Somehow HyuN took a huge lead with an economic advantage. +1 ranged is half done for both players, but Revival is getting +1 carapace too. HyuN starts his +1 carapace. HyuN loses a few zerglings.
10:00 Revival 109 vs HyuN 140 Revival transferring workers to the third base. HyuN is moving into the third of Revival with a roach lead.
11:00 Revival 101 vs HyuN 149 HyuN breaks the third and starts moving towards the natural expansion. HyuN picks off more roaches while growing his army, and kills the roach warren. HyuN moves into the natural expansion. Revival GG's! HyuN wins 2-0 and advances!

My twitter guy is asleep so I will say it here. So proud of both our players, they are playing exceptional starcraft right now, showing determination and mechanical prowess in the face of tough opponents. They will be traveling to my place tomorrow to practice and relax a bit, so I am hoping to be in better shape tomorrow to be the good host. I was given fluids and some IV medication today to try and improve my condition, I am feeling more active and in less pain, though the issue with my right shoulder persist and they aren't 100% on what's causing that yet. It is a known side effect of this chemo type to experience joint and muscle pain but usually it's overall, rather than this localized. Will most likely be going on blood pressure meds to try and sort me out. Anyway, I have great care here and access to everything I need 24/7 so I am sure I will be fine and I hope the players won't worry about me and will instead concentrate on taking the WCS title

Damn man. Sounds like you've got it pretty fricking rough. But through all that, you have a great attitude and are commited to the team. You're the best TB, and good luck to the Axiom guys.
