I will be putting on a King of the Hill style showcase/showmatch Starbow tournament with over $100 in potential prizes to be claimed by the most worthy challengers.
Between streaming and casting matches on the mod and the overwhelmingly positive reviews and interest it has created in the past few days, I want to give those who have been practicing it a chance to compete for cash prizes!
I understand the game is in Beta, is not balanced, can be buggy as well as inconsistent, but that does not stop it from being one of the most enjoyable experiences I have had in recent Sc2. I want to both encourage and promote the soon to be free to play experience to an even wider audience
Tournament Rules/Information: -Begins 7pm EST Monday, January 13th
-Signups will open within an hour before the event and be open until all slots or filled or the night concludes.
-Must join the "Winter SC2" group on North American battle net to be eligible for informational updates on signups and also to be added to the games.
-Must be at least Gold league on NA, EU or KR servers within the past 3 seasons to be elegible.
-Race is locked, you may not pick a new race after winning a game.
Format:
-After signups, two players that meet the starting criteria will be chosen at random to play the first match. The winner moves on.
-Opponents are chosen at random from the signup list, and the challenger will be allowed to choose the map he challenges the current King on from the uploaded map pool.
-At 3 wins, the King will gain $10, at 4 wins, $15, and at 5 wins $30. After 5 wins two new participants will be chosen(if necessary).
-Winners must have access to a paypal account to receive winnings.
-Games will continue for at least 20 matches, or until $200 of prize pool is expended(barring any extra contributions to the pool).
This is my first attempt at putting an event like this on, I hope it works out well and we get some amazing games out of it Remember to join the "Winter SC2" group on NA Battle net and to check out http://www.twitch.tv/zlfreebird in order to participate!
Nice event. Really looking forward to seeing some competitive StarBow. Have you got a co-caster lined up? In my opinion the experience is always much nicer for the viewer when there's two casters not one. Maybe TB or BaseTradeTV could lend you a hand or something?
That was an interesting watch. Overall, I was quite bored. Although, to be fair, this may be because of the skill gap between players and because it takes a while for a spectator to learn some of the nuance of what is going on. Games also appear to take a while. It takes too long to just finish a game and win. I'm also in two minds about the game speed. It seems too slow.
T match-ups look to be better in WOL and HOTS. However, P appears to be somewhat better in SB, I have to say. If anything because of the return of the Dragoon as the backbone of the P army and the lack of the Colossus (and the silly counter-play it forces in the opponent). Stalkers have returned to what they originally were, I think, mobile harassers. I wonder if the SC2 design team regret their decision to remove the Dragoon and to shoehorn the Stalker into a role it may not be best for?
I'll be playing a few games myself over the weekend. That will be a better point to judge from, I think.
Overall, the mod has come a long way from when I first looked at a vod about a year or so ago. There is still obviously quite a bit of work to do. And, unfortunately, I wonder if all the hype and expectation will help or hinder that process. But, what has been achieved so far is really good. So, keep your heads down, StarBow dev team, if you can, and keep it up.
This could be a good game once (if) the players figure out how to play. And Major looking really good. Sasquatch vs. Major was quite a decent match! Looking forward to some matches where the players really know what they are doing!
