MC really didn't need to attack there. His 3rd base hadn't begun to kick in. He overly feared the mutas or somethin.

Perfect distraction with some lings to get that second for the forcefields to screw up.
But you have to question MC for using such a sentry heavy strat on this map.

air weapons increase the damage the broodlord's own attack does, the broodlings get ground melee upgrades.
