lichter's notes: I am currently writing a FAQ for LR threads, to be included at the bottom of each LR. Mostly I want it to address questions regarding LR threads, as well as questions about becoming LR OPs. Please look through the FAQ and PM me with ideas to improve it. TY!
Volunteer! All you have to do is check if there's already a thread for the tournament, or if anyone is scheduled to make the thread. If there isn't a thread and no one is scheduled to do it, you can become the LR OP! We are always looking for new people to help out, especially for WCS AM and EU.
Being the LR thread OP is hard work, but it's also fulfilling. Hundreds, if not thousands, of people check the LR thread every day, and it is a valuable resource to the community. It's a simple way of supporting SC2, the game we all presumably love :p
Now that I've decided to be a LR OP, what do I do? + Show Spoiler +
Next, read up a little on bbcode and familiarize yourself with it. It helps to look at the code for previous LR OPs.
Finally, check your schedule. Are you SURE you'll be around for the duration of the tournament? Are you sure you'll be able to update in a timely manner?
If everything checks out and you've done all of the above, all you have to do is make the thread!
Where can I find previous LR OPs, as well as LR resources? + Show Spoiler +
LRing is tough work, and only a handful of people do it regularly. The most famous ones are Shellshock and The_Templar, but occasionally other people (such as packrat, Yello, etc) do it as well. If no one is available to do it, then there is no LR. Again, we need more volunteers. Anyone who watches games regularly and types really, really fast has qualifications to become an LRer.
All you have to do is write out what happens during the game. It doesn't need to be complete, but it should be a good summary of the entire game. Supply counts, timings, build orders, and major events are typically what receive priority in LRs. You can read more LRs by Shellshock and The_Templar for a better idea of how to do it.
Can I submit a new banner, player photos, or other images? + Show Spoiler +
Yes! We encourage creativity in LR threads, so if you want to submit some fancy stuff and replace the premade ones, go right ahead.
Who do I contact if I have questions about LR threads? + Show Spoiler +
Wow Revival played that out pretty horribly... Engaging phoenix over top of two cannons, going muta's vs 3 stargate play and making it blatantly obvious? That one was tough to watch lol
That was some one the worst executed hydra into muta switch I've seen. I still love seeing people doing that style die to phoenixes tho, so beautiful watching the mutalisks get ripped apart

The only thing phoenix don't counter is buildings and massive units that can't shoot up.

Seemed like a failed adaptation of Nerchio's ZvP stylings imo. The last time I saw Nerhcio play against star gate he had double spire though, and took much better engages. The phoenix count definitely wasn't that high.

That was Nerchio vs...HasuObs on Frost?
Sounds right. I was dumbstruck by the build but he made it work some how. Sage seems to be dictating the course of things much more, just feels that way watching it.
On September 25 2013 07:43 Zheryn wrote: Why did Sage move out so late?
I think it was someone intentional, encourage zerg to drone more than they should by hitting a bit later than they ought to. The build is so dated it could work pretty well, as shown.
We all know Hyun's success depends on what pants he is wearing.

Wait it is goswser! I wasnt sure and the op said catspajamas or something. I remember when goswser went to homestorycup and went to get a haircut but returned with exactly the same hairstyle

So it's 100% that Hyun gets a walkover because Polt is having internet troubles? I guess it does have some poetic justice because Hyun got walk overed twice in the RSL because he was having internet troubles in China... but still
How unfortunate. Man I am a huge fan of Polt and was super psyched for the AM group of death. Bad luck Polt but at least we will still see him Blizzcon, as well as IEM.
Maybe this is bad whining, but Scarlett's group got pushed to October 1st to account for her break, but we can't delay an hour or so for Polt to get somewhere he can play?

Probably because it's a short notice thing, and the rules are based on as it happens. Since it's offline, you can't start making exceptions here and there with no way to check, otherwise someone could ask 30mins before the game "oh, can we play later because my internet is dead", and since he's who knows where, no one can check, and it screws everyone over. Scarlett gave advanced notice, so it's different.

The other players were probably ok with playing on October to accompany and make arrangement for Scarlett's breaks. But right now, they cannot wait too long for Polt or it may screw up whatever schedules they have. And what would they do for 1 hour? Drink water?

Yeah it is different. I'm just upset about it what they are doing about it is unreasonable it's just a crappy situation to have your champion unable to play due to internet issues .
The #WCS American Champion Polt disqualified because his Internet is down, as is a lot of the Austin area right now. Sad for Polt, and WCS.
The Internet issue isn't exclusive to Polt, but the entire city of Austin.
Ahh this is so frustrating. Obviously through no fault of his own, Polt has been forced to give up a potential $20,000 in prizes from WCS AM alone, not to mention the season finals...
Unfortunately, Due to technical difficulties Polt was forced to forfeit his first match. We are hopeful that he will be able to make his second match of the night. Thank you for your patience!

I think it'd be better if they made the call based on legitimate proof that the player is not at fault for not being able to play. Polt's whole city is having trouble right now, it's clear he has no blame for this.

I know I'm just being butthurt that Polt can't play.
Seems that Polt's internet is back, and will play #WCS starting from the losers match!
Good news everyone!
Still sucks that there was any interruption of the group stage which can skew the results. For example, Sage may beat Hyun when he would not have been able to beat Polt. All walkovers suck.

You're kidding right? It couldn't come back 15 to 20 minutes earlier?! I feel so bad for Polt.
Minor setback, Slasher jumped the gun by tweeting DQ though.
Yeah but it's going to throw the results of the group for a loop that's for sure. And with no group selection process for AM, it will also skew the ro16 groups in all likelihood.
I was under the impression that DQs always worked like this in e-sports. They treat a no-show as a default but you could get back in to a loser's match or loser's bracket if you showed up later. You're not automatically eliminated from the entire tournment.

The way you type reminds me of Stevie from Malcolm in the middle.
I'm more and more convinced that it was all Sage's genius plot to win the group by playing only EZ PZ Zerg and not having to face Polt's PvT. Hopefully he will now win and allow Polt to get the second place.

Obviously, looking at the diagram provided, Japanese (?) partners will pick up Korean and Australian Players and bring them to South America while tying US and EU community together to ensure Esports is in Africa and India.

idk I brought that up once and I was told it doesnt count as the worst cannon rush ever because the cannon rush never got started. I'm willing to rescind my statement if that attempt now counts
Kinda disappointed it had to end this way and with a walkover, but I'm just glad HyuN advances. Now for Polt to join his TSL brethren in the Ro16, I will be even happier.

The Internet issue isn't exclusive to Polt, but the entire city of Austin.
Quick search of "Austin Internet" on Twitter shows a few hits of ppl complaining about their Time Warner Cable internet being down in the Austin area. I don't think it extends beyond TWC, though. I don't understand why CMStorm just puts out the word on Polt's Twitter account asking for nearby Austin residents with working Internet or a SC-capable PC to grab Polt and let him play at their place. And that would be a last resort, compared to just finding a neighbour with working Internet (I guess that would be a bit socially awkward, but come on, make an option work, guys).

I don't think he's the type of guy that would be too tilted by this. Some other players might but from the very small view I have of him from the internet ( which is not much ), I think he's gonna do okay.
Why did HyuN get a walkover? Was it because Polt thought it was the least he could do got his ex teammate since he is guaranteed to be in the season finals?

You must really dislike offline MLG open bracket craziness then, or any other system where the walkovers are per match and not "you missed your first match YOU ARE OUT" systems.

not really if they don't get tanks, you can throw them to death with Roaches, then get Hydras to seal your t3 transition. Just need creep spread, because you can't fight anywhere else. The creep spread is probably the hardest part of this lol.

you're thinking of zergling/muta, roach/hydra scaling >> bio. just that its inherently not that great against it.
on the other hand +3 armor against muta bounces and killing zergs before they even get to you is extremely powerful.

It gets shredded by a huge group Marauder heavy bio with lots of Medivacs. Thats why you need the creep to run away and snipe small groups. For defense you always have a choke you can fight at. Main part is force stims avoid repeat, keep the Medivacs dry. 3-3 shouldn't be a problem since you have your t3 units by then or your dead anyway.

without the Tanks the Roaches would have never stopped, the creep would have been behind them and the Medivacs would have been useless because constantly empty. The Tanks on the cliffs gave Polt the breathing room to regenerate energy on the Medivacs and on the Bio numbers and the the Roaches can't trade anymore. Revival made it to the main ramp, so Polt held at his last chance.
I so love Revivals Zerg play its just so Zerg, without his little control mistakes he would probably be revolutionizing Zerg. His strategies are just so clever, but they also take a ton of control.

Best part of that last fight was Polt microing 4 army groups (front bio/vikings/bio drop/small split-off to the left) to pick apart Sage's superior comp.

Hyun would have been prepared and struck Polt down, Revival wouldn't have been already in the mindset of playing a Zerg or Toss again and would have won against Polt and Polt would have been out.

yes a very early third with like 2 sentries and a mothership core

Not necessarily a gamble, more like a calculated gambit.

Polt scouted Sage's in-base stargate after expansion, so Sage cancelled the stargate to take a third base. He then went for 7-gate pressure off 2gas, keeping up probe production at home. Polt's medivacs were a bit late for the fight and his natural got heavily pressured, into a 10 minute death animation
The raven is a pretty cool idea. I think Gretorp is looking at it wrong. Polt is getting it so he doesn't have to scan observer, put full OC energy into MULES to catch up economicly

I wonder why more Terran players don't do that more often.

A bald eagle upon the Washington Monument with Barack Obama riding upon it swooped to Polt's home and in his darkest hour, made Polt realize that all he needed was America.

all you have to do is leave a few ht at a base and drops do nothing

I like the DT in waiting. Unit drops dies etc... then they do the panic scan while the Medivac keeps dropping beside the DT.
Did Gretorp just say "ASAPly"? As in, turning "as soon as possible" into "as soon as possibly" or something? I've never heard that before, but that's rather... incorrect, no? Why not just leave it as ASAP?

less reliable than just leaving 1-2 ht and warping in a few zealots. dts at good at defending against small drops but the big drops polt does they don't really do anything. maybe if he derps and doesn't scan but that's not really something you should be relying on

I mean with all the weird stuff in the English language I am prepared to accept ASAPly.
For example, we say, "Can't you..." or something like that all the time. We are saying "Can not you..." which makes no sense...
In short, ASAPly may be incorrect, but what the hell. Might as well use it.
The way the group and matches unfolded put a whole new meaning to the picture of Polt on the preview on TL. It's like, relief after walking through Hell.

Problem with the HTs and Zealots is that you get the Hts sniped and just prevent the drop, so damage done. Imo Oracles are still the best way to deal with drops. Just hug an Medivac with one Oracle and they can't drop. Problem is fighting the army of Terran. Unless they worker pull since Oracles are perfect for that as well.
Polt won with great decision making, excellent positioning, amazing multitasking, and a pinch of luck. I wish there were more players like him in SC2 - makes for great games. Certainly beats 'death ball' type players in the entertainment stakes. Chapeau to Sage for making a game of it, too!
Phew, almost had a heart attack when I read the results and saw Polt get walked over the first match, it would've sucked so much if he no-showed for his group and couldn't advance. Happy to see both him and Hyun through!

Apparently a large part of the city of Austin, Texas was experiencing internet problems and Polt couldn't make it online in time for the matches against Hyun. He managed to get online in time to avoid being DQed in his second series and finished out the group.

- make Ro32 to played on-site - lose a bunch of Koreans - win a bunch of Americans - ??? - profit

First beat Polt handily in WCS Season 2 Finals. He defended well against the aggression and notably used more immortals than is normal in the matchup. I think it counters the marauder heavy style that Polt uses but obviously, not everyone can pull off the perfect defense that First does.
Watching VoD at the moment, just saw Polt vs Sage game 1. That was one sick move by Polt, creating a flank from the main base onto the entire army of Sage.
