While the Premier League players are preparing for the upcoming Round of 16, some fresh faces will get the chance to prove themselves in WCS Europe. The Challenger League is made up of a bracket stage with 40 players followed by a group stage with 32 players. On August 12th we will kick-off the Challenger Round with its first round featuring 32 players. 8 new players advanced from four open qualifiers, 8 players qualified for Challenger League last season, 16 dropped in the first group stage (Ro32) of Premier League and 8 more are going to drop in the second group stage (Ro16) of Premier League taking place from August 5th to 8th. Those eight will join the bracket stage in the third and final round, randomly seeded into the bracket, where eight winners will qualify for WCS EU Season 3 Premier League.
All games are BO3, and are scheduled to start on the hour although these times will be subject to change. Challenger Group play will be on Thursday - Saturday this week also!

Lyrlian switched a few weeks ago, I think he is the one you mean. His normal casting partner madals is currently casting on the english stream, are you maybe confusing those two?

If you mean Lyrlian (former caster of playhem), that is not him casting on WCS 2.

i thought the one with the british accent is lyrlian. edit. ok thanks
I hate how they decide and control the game. If they do a lot of friendly fire or only hit one or two Zerg units, Zerg wins. But if they get good connections on the Zerg army, Terran wins. And it is nearly impossible to predict how they are going to hit.
Btw the german stream will only cover games until 7pm CEST and will then switch to WGC qualifiers. If WGC concludes before WCS is over, he will switch back

It was already done before the fight between natural and 3rd Base (the fight before forgg killed Targas 4th base). Forgg had much barracks und many widow mines. Targas decisionsmaking that he still stayed at roaches+ling+bling was very very questionable.
I'd be worried about Genius in that group. KR Protoss, who beat some pretty damn good players in GSTL... but not many games on record... a bit of a wild card. Nerchio, Thorzain, Slivko, watch out.
those couple of widow mines in front of forggs third must have so many kills. dont understand why not even morph one overseer when moving through them several times

The limit of HyuN's style. It's very powerful but it needs an immaculate macro to win when the Terran gets the 3/3 as the Zerg is only on Lair tech.

I might be biased but I expected this result. Every time they meet TLO gets crushed by Dayshi (7-1 for Dayshi atm). The only time he won was a 6 pool vs 11/11. I hugely recommend this game btw.

True. He didn't get much anti-air (except for the low range archons) and Corruptors are pretty quick. Didn't think about that.
These immortals are soooo good. I don't think Targa can still win this. Even if his army is going to be hard to kill, he don't have murch larvas left to reproduce.
Please win ToD, this swarm host strategy is so horribly boring and annoying that you deserve to win. But carriers vs that many corruptors, with vipers and infestors will never work
Targa letting 5 immortals kill his main and 2 other bases, not even trying to spread creep. Tod recall into his main to get traped and letting 5 tempest go into corruptors. What is this game.

Yea I don't see it too often either =P, but the DPS in theory seems insane from Tod. Even with this baserace, I like Tod's position.
This is so weird. How come it is that ToD finds himself to be in games like these? Time to add Targa among Sheth and Happy in the ToD weird long game playlist.
Targa will be able to make enough units to max out after rebuilding his tech and that's it whereas tod is going to build a small bank so I think ToD has it if engagement isn't bad.

Well, this is interesting as a one time thing, but if I ever have to watch more games like this I'm going to claw my eyes out - swarm host/broodlord is so boring if it turns into a stalemate (PvZ lategame in general always has been boring in the super lategame - there was a HasuObs game a long time ago in IPTL I think that reminds me a lot of this.)
I think ToD is fine here -- Carriers are actually pretty awesome when you have a dozen of them backed by an armada of void rays and a few archons. Targa has too much of his supply in brood lords and swarm hosts, which won't do anything to the Protoss air.
The biggest worry are the infestors -- perhaps he could put some HT's in a warp prism and try to feedback them.

Which the voids rays could probably have done by themselves because they're insanely efficient vs. corruptors. The insane DPS of the carriers was just icing on the cake.

Targa played so bad, fungal on almost all voidrays, tod activates them; then Targa just thinks hey let me send my small amounts of corruptors into them while getting stormed because why not.

ya although I think we need to keep in mind the fungals from the infestors. If he got a couple off, that's half the hp gone etc...
Targa went from about 6000 minerals to 1000 minerals over 5 minutes building SPINECRAWLERS against the massive air army of Tod. Even if Targa had managed to have an even engagement, he threw away his entire bank fortifying a position where fortifications would've been, and were, useless.

static defense. You can't win army vs army, but you can win army vs army+spores. And when he doesn't want to fight, you can fly around with Viper/Corruptor for as long as you want and abduct single units, until he is dead. Targa just didn't play it out well in the end and Tod was really clever going for somthing like 180 armysupply nearly all in airunits and swinging in from an angle without spores, against an opponent who had half his supply in units that aren't capable of attacking air.
The other often over-looked aspect to that last battle is that Void Rays & Carriers both are extremely sensitive to air upgrades. According to liquipedia stats, each upgrade increases Carrier DPS by 20% (vs. 10% for Tempests). ToD either had 3/2 or 3/3 at the end there.

The problem was that Targa allowed ToD to do it. Maybe in the end he had little choice, but he should have way earlier pressured Tod. So Tod would be forced to either defend his bases, and once in a while get pulled in by vipers, or go for a base trade but already lose half your own bases before you arrive at the enemies base.
But without Targa pressuring Tod he could happily do whatever he want.

yeah, Targa played it out quite badly. He should not have gone for that basetrade, but instead either tried to attack the army or just creep/split the whole map defensively and built 100crawlers or more.

After a disappointing exit from WCS EU S2, the King looks to return to Premier League. Here is an interesting fact: throughout 2011 and 2012, there have been times where Mvp has fallen out of Code S, but he has only played in the Up & Downs exactly once (April 2011). Europe also has its version of the Up & Downs but Mvp will undoubtedly want to qualify for Premier League without complications: directly, through the Round of 16.
It's no secret that INnoVation has been terrorizing Soulkey and Polt just crushed Jaedong in WCS AM. It is clear that the metagame is favorable for Terran, but just how good is Mvp's TvZ?
Truth be told, it's hard to tell. I will say with confidence that Mvp does not win due to lucky Widow Mine shots - in fact, he is probably one of the most unlucky Terrans in that regard. However, his other skills are certainly up to par, as his games against Ret demonstrate. He won game 1 by simply out-multitasking Ret, while game 2 was won by early game Widow Mine drop strategies. Admittedly, that does not really tell us how he would fare in a "standard TvZ" (Biomine vs. Ling/Bling/Muta).
How good is Mvp's TvZ? With the memory of a disastrous 0-6 against Korean Zergs online fresh in our minds, the answer remains unclear. Despite this, his TvZ is still probably good enough to take care of business here.

German stream got left out of the entire Ret-Starbuck series, so 1 game has to be acceptable.
Well.. the couch was empty when game 1 started.. maybe they should get ready in time ><
Yes, sure, I just found it amusing, that they sit there for half an our now and don´t do anything. Meanwhile TaKe is gone and TargA is trolling from his account. The whole house has fallen into anarchy.

No, simply greece is part of Europe, and Europe did held once today. So we must find an Europe Holds pic. And since Greece is part of Europe, Picture from 300 (for example) can work too. EDIT: Dammit EDIT2: I hope Mvp does not sleep at the moment :S

Why has twitch begun looking like shit on all qualities beginning a couple of months ago? It is near impossible to ever watch 1080p and the `+` qualities without steam lagging hard. 720p looks like the old 480p. Even during TI3 720 and 1080p+ looked like shit compared to tournaments several months ago. Did Twitch.tv change anything or is it just streamers lowering their bitrate/whatever?

Sure he had lag, not denying that. But it is his choice to play from Korea in Europe. They can still get through in the group stage, which is where most of the Koreans advanced from last season.
Mvp is very good as always, but to me he seemed perhaps less so than usual. I can't remember last time I saw him play but I remember him having fantastic marine control. In the Belshir vestige game he seemed to often neglect splitting or moving his marines at all and was hit big many times with banelings. Is it Jürgen's wrist acting up?

Mvp fans know this all too well. He has a tendency to lose the first game only to come back stronger. I've lost count how many times he lost the first game only to stage a comeback. Sometimes I think he does this deliberately to give his fans heart attacks.

It's the Korea-Europe lag... I mean, you can still split and stuff, but I think Mvp doesn't bother, he just pre-splits and focuses his actions elsewhere.

Mvp goes in with 2 reapers 4 hellions and 2-4 hellbats with Medivacs and does cripping damage (kills off all of DIMAGA's slow lings). Then he followed up with Hellbat/Marauder push which killed off DIMAGA's upgrades and his 3rd base. DIMAGA tried a ling runby, was shut down by wall + 5 Hellbats.
DIMAGA got Roaches and pushed Mvp back but Mvp came back with a stronger force. DIMAGA tried Roach/Hydra, didn't do him any good. GG

On one hand, it is fun to see Mvp pulling off cute stunt like this, which has been trade mark of his play since 2012. OTOH, it does show that Mvp is no longer a fundamentally strong player that can win just by mechanics alone, even against foreigner. Sad!

He still has his good days where he seems to suddenly scale up to his opponents. I mean people have been saying this about him for more than a year now.
Even in HotS, he just barely lost to Bogus at the regionals after making it all the way to the semis.

I don't consider it a 'cute stunt'... it's more like, Mvp has an incredibly diverse playbook.
For TvZ, he can pull out...
11/11 CC first into 3OC 2Ebay Biomine Widow Mine drop (vs. Ret) Hellbat/Marauder Reaper/Hellion Cloak Banshee/Hellion Mech Bio with drops instead of the straight push Lategame turtle BC/Raven ...and more?
He didn't choose that hellbat/marauder strategy because he was forced to... he chose it because it was a strategy he could use and he felt like it would give him the highest chance of winning at that moment.

1 shot for wrong flag 2 for wrong country 3 for wrong country and wrong flag (IE, if I played being Canadian and they called me a USA player while giving me a UK flag. That sort of thing).

Fast third with not enough gates and floating resources into sexy micro, hold, fast fourth base and surprise colossi that fried the army from high ground. It was a harmless comment I just enjoyed the pace of the game.

Thursday and Friday both groups start at 18:00. There are 2 groups of three here, so we will broadcast all matches where players can advance, meaning we will broadcast the groups with 4 players slightly differently as we will swap the winners/loser match order.
