Because unless tanks were behind walls, they usually only got 1 shot off in a lot of the engagements vs Zs

@havik tanks are just too damn immobile and the damage is not nearly as good against ultras. widowmine's high central damage

PvP is a lot of thinking, preparation and composition.
PvZ is a lot of trickery/blunt force from both sides.
PvT is largely a zoning game by both sides with Terran on a timer to kill Protoss before 4 base.
TvT is about positioning and large dramatic movements in small and large scale fights.
ZvZ is about assessment. Can you read the difference between a 50 drone economy and 60 drone economy and know what that means in a long game?
TvZ is speed. Mechanics against mechanics. attack, counter attack. Drop vs drop defense. Runby vs defense. Creep spread against anti-creep. A constant unending fight from 2-3 base onwards.

Loads of reasons.
1. Tanks cost 125 gas each. Widow Mines cost 25 gas.
2. Widow Mines can be reactored, Tanks require a tech lab and take MUCH longer to build and replace.
3. Widow Mines require an overseer to clear through. Tanks don't.
4. Widow Mines move and burrow faster than Tanks can siege and unsiege adding a TON of added mobility to the army.
5. That constant DPS from the tanks hardly matters since the battles are over so fast the tank only usually manages to get off 2 shots MAX before it's over.
6. Widow Mines hit air, allowing them to be useful vs Mutalisks. Tanks obviously do not.
