As someone who's dutch i'd say you're sprechen out of your ass, my german is absolutely terrible :p rotti lived in germany for years, that's why his german is good.
But you learn it in school? Look at all the football players playing in germany, they all speak really good german compared to other foreigners. Dutch is basically a german dialect..
Yeah i agree, most people here learn it at school and understand/speak it pretty decently.

I believe it was mandatory to take at least one foreign language, you could pick between french/german/spanish. Personally i took french because i sucked less at it than german. Still don't "speak" either language. Could probably understand a few words, but no more.

No problem, it's not perfect, but I tried to use your words . "Etwas" is better than "ein bisschen" for example.
English, Dutch and German are very similar in a lot of cases. Ive never learnt Dutch but you can get what people are talking about if you listen to them. Dutch is like a mix from German and English words + dialect.
Understanding is easy but to speak it you need a bit vocabulary and a bit of knowledge how the language works and then its quite fine already.
its a bit like spanish, french and italian. they are very similar too and share a lot of words.

It's been reduced a lot, I only had 2 years of full lesson and 1 year of 'reading comprehension' which was soooo easy. Now i''ve forgotten everything and can hardly speak and write it. Can still understand it and read it though.
afaik, dutch and german 'platt' (which is spoken in the north west of germany especially by old people) are quite similar. when my grandmother spoke platt with her sister... god save me :D i understood 1 word out of ten ^^

Hehe in italy i use french words and add 'i' at the end, in spain i use french words and add 'a' to the end

Yeah if you know German and English, Dutch really sounds like a mix of it.

Also writen dutch is very easy to understand tons of words are similar in nature.
Nope. You'd e.g say "scheißt drauf" which translates to "shits on it"
sure it works. o.o in hiphop they say it all the time :D
That's because "german rappers" these days are terrible at the german language and just try to be gangster.
ahh no you have no clue about the german rap scene so don''t start it pls. i think it's viable in the german language you can say it.
I listened to german rap when it started with groups like Advanced Chemistry, so... I stopped caring about german rap when nobody could top lyrics like the ones from RAG and just went full "ey, isch krasser macker"
If you can link me to high quality german rap, feel free to do so
But you could tell that they really enjoyed pulling it off to cast in German, especially ThorZaiN highfiving everyone. I think he takes a special interest in the German language.
