There were 13 Kespa players last season. Only 7 the season before. And 2 before that.
Next season, it will be between 16 and 18.
Some of the Code S players are guaranteed to be back the following season. This makes player replacement a gradual process.
I think you skipped a season somewhere in there
2012 Season 3 had 0 kespa, 4 had Rain and Jaedong. 5 had Rain Bbyong RorO sOs Bogus Baby Soulkey. 2013 Season 1 had Baby RorO Bogus Soukey. WCS Season 1 had Bogus RorO sOs Flash True Flying Fantasy Crazy soO Rain and Last WCS Season 2 going to have Bogus sOs Soulkey RorO Bbyong Flying Flash Hyvaa Rain soO Trap Shine Fantasy Savage Jangbi and who ever makes it out today.

Parting doesn't count -_- So what MajOr is also Kespa? Idra is also Kespa because he was on CJ? You don't become kespa signing on and off, it's the entire training regiment from start to end. Unless everyone who's ever been in Kespa teams counts, in which case we should be counting MVP, Nestea, Forgg, etc etc etc. Counting challenger league is iffy.

Oh "training". HuK is Korean right? Oh "start to end". Come the draft there's a high chance kespa will include a fair bit of not-actually-kespa. I can't wait for that debate.

???
But their coach which is what matters for a team is a legendary kespa coach. They are taking part in the Kespa team league instead of the ESF teamleague. HerO plays with kespa players more than ESF players. So ????
The whole argument is retarded. The only way to actually distinguish Kespa and ESF is if they only benefited from one majority party for their career. People who hop around and then get instantly referred to an organization when it's ambiguous whether they benefited from that organization is discrediting that person's hard work. Someone like Bogus or Flash is unambiguously Kespa. If you actually want to make a comparison between the training regiment, team environment or organizational environment or who influences their decision making you have to go to that basis and not look at in between. It's as silly as calling Yugioh a foreign player a week after he gets picked up and hasn't even left Korea yet.

Yeah I get the point, which is sort of why I ignore the potential for ambiguity by basically referencing people by their association. As an example: Yugioh is a Korean player on a foreign team. Innovation is a korean player on a kespa team. Major is a mexican player on a Kespa team. That's basically how I associate players for their identification.
Sort of just saying how it is should be...well how it is from my point of view haha. People call Parting Kespa, or not, because it's too long to type: "13 South Korean Kespa players that have been trained by kespa and remain in kespa. 1 south korean kespa player that has been trained by both kespa + esf and went from kespa to esf to kespa."
So Parting's description is confusing regardless of how you want to sell it, and I'll keep saying he's "kespa" to shorten all that.
EDIT: Sorry if we're derailing here. We're not even arguing kespa vs esf as far as I'm aware, just the 'branding' that people apply.
Oh except some other fool tried to start that kespa vs esf thing. Ignore him.

What a silly argument. You're a Kespa player if you currently play for a Kespa team, you're ESF if you currently play for an ESF team, end of story. Like, does that mean Parting and Squirtle are still Startale players? Are you still going to refer to Jarome Iginla as a Calgary Flames player? LeBron James as a Cav? Etc, etc.

The only actual legitimate reason to association kespa and ESF players is because that label means something because the regiment is so different between the two. And a career long association with one or the other was supposed to mean something. Only retards and fan boys actually think that just by labeling someone a label you would change that person's personal accomplishments. Labeling parting Kespa or ESF means nothing in terms of SC2 because unless you talk to him personally and ask him which organization he benefited most from or what it meant for him to train in kespa environment vs esf environment.
This whole shit started because BW veterans believed their training regiment and the heart of hard working players under the kespa banner were better players not necessarily result wise but in terms of work ethics and tradition. Here we had people who trained their asses off in strict environments, versus people who just stream for revenue and some who behaved like unprofessional hacks. And we thought it counted for something to be coming from the Kespa tradition, regardless of how much BW veterans had their own issues with Kespa. Then it spread to the forums where people just use it to label players to a team like it means anything, "oh this player was signed by a kespa team, guess that means he's automatically better!". It doesn't mean shit if you don't even know what you are talking about.

I have to admit I didn't ask Parting if he feels more like a ESF or Kespa when I made my little Kespa-ESF tally. I don't really know anything about all that touchy-feely stuff, all I know is that when I look at Liquipedia it tells me Parting was a SKT1 player in 2013 and that's good enough for me.

Guess I'm a retard then How does being in a different training regiment affect it? KeSPA is an organization that oversees e-sports, and in SC2 there are 7 teams. If you're in one of those teams you're "a KeSPA-player". It goes that way in every sports that is out there, you're just saying your own subjective opinion who's what. Same way if you play hockey in various junior leagues in NA and then 15 years in NHL, then transfer to KHL, you no longer are a NHL-player but a KHL-player. It doesn't revoke your history but your current status changes.
Sigh, I'm rebutting people who are labeling these players Kespa or ESF with an external justification (if a kespa player does well, it's supposed to support statement X, if a esf player does badly, it's also supposed to support statement X as well as Y. and so on.). I feel retarded even talking about it, so here's the bottom line of what I mean:
People are making posts with Kespa vs ESF player ratios in major tournaments as if it means something, and labeling players' most recent team as if that's the staple that we should judge him by. "Yugioh is foreign! Parting is Kespa!" I pointed out why just saying that a person represents Kespa or ESF doesn't mean shit unless you understand what it means to train under Kespa or ESF and which has actually affected you the most and in what way.
On that note go Effort, you better do well or I will never forgive you for winning that OSL from flash.

Funny, I'm in a similar position myself. My boss is really chill about it as well, but when it's busy I don't get to watch.
Where did all the students go ? Are we only working people watching the GSL nowadays ? Are we becoming an old bunch ?
Well, I have to work 9 months before I can start studying. Either social work or military service, I chose social work. So don't worry, not everybody is 60 like Shellshock. Least I'm assuming he's that old or his post count would be nonsensical.

I don't know if your fishsticks are as small as they are over here, but I eat at least half a pack of the Iglo ones. That would be at least 6 then ^.^
Also fits really well to potatoes with self-made mustard sauce

I've been thinking about this fast third that's cropped up. Seems like some of the Parting/Squirtle Nexus builds in PvT might be even better in Hots than in WoL. You're safe until about 10 minutes or so, before that the nexus cannon should be able to hold most attacks. So squeezing in an early third seems conceivable.

I'm slightly disappointed that no tournament is using a mod to make Roach and Baneling colors more visible. Doesn't need to be like the Stronger Team Color Mod, that would be too much I think. But just slightly improve some visibility would be nice.
It's not even that hard to tell what belongs to which player but it would be a better spectator experience if it was always visible at first glance

Idd. I hope Blizz remove the spore crawler buff and replace it with the baneling launcher upgrade featured on reddit. The upgrade can be hive tech, so you first have the ling/bane wars, then muta positioning and than baneling bombing.

and he lost his own 4th against 2 zealots. The pressure got to him, which is odd for someone as experienced as him.

If you don't do damage early on the execution won't be easy at all.
The spawning position for it was somewhat beneficial but you saw what happens when the Zerg gets all the info he needs.
well he got the info cuz he placed his 5:30 robo right in front of the overlord..
Zerg would have been fine either way as he scouted with an overseer later on. Was somewhat of blunder by super but when effort sees there are no phoenix coming he can assume either a) robo tech or b) fast third - which is very easy to scout.

drone drone drone - make units afterwards for either denying the third or go for the aggression/be safe. it made it easier but a totally different game is quite the stretch.

Fun fact: WCS Season 2 will be the worst season for terrans in terms of numbers since the beginning of Starcraft 2, GSL Open seasons, GSL Code S and finally WCS.

All their players are slumping and they only have four good players left. I think at this point the Korean scene would benefit from Prime and NsH disbanding to be honest. Proleague can use some good terran players in any case.

I sorta agree, the main downside would be GSTL having very few team's then.

Prime and NSHS players get split between eSF, Kespa and foreign teams, and then GSTL and Proleague merges.

The players on Prime and NsH good enough to get picked up by other teams

GSTL is starting to become irrelevant because of how infrequent the broadcasts are anyway, It's about x10 easier to catch a Proleague match since it airs 7 matches a week nearly every week instead of two matches a week skipping a lot of weeks.

First I was like, yummy poetic justice - then I looked at the earlier protoss/zerg stats compared to terran. Now I don't get the funny part in it.
The fun part is that we had those "hellbat OP! widow mine OP! T unbeatable!" cries since the launch of HotS.
Reality check: T takes it's biggest dive in the history of SC2 and Korean premier tournaments.
HotS balance aside. I think the main reason there are less terrans are because of the last WoL season being only 1 season apart from this one. Give it 1-2 more seasons and the lesser zergs will drop out and the better terrans will get back in.

Except for open seasons, this history isn't even counting code A+S which would be even better for terrans actually. They can be the smaller number for quite some time before the overall numbers get even close.

Also Bo7 all-kill format is fucking terrible. I think they chose that so teams like Axiom-Acer, Prime and NSH could stand a chance.

All their players are slumping and they only have four good players left. I think at this point the Korean scene would benefit from Prime and NsH disbanding to be honest. Proleague can use some good terran players in any case.
Who would benefit from Prime or NsH disbanding?
the players that could go to better teams with a better environment and have a chance to be relevant in sc2
That would also mean the death of GSTL though. To be honest I don't know how much of a future GSTL has at this point anyway.
I would prefer to see a consolidated team league but I dont really know how that would work with the politics behind it

Spending lots of money doesn't mean they're bathing in money. Could easily be pushing their budget/being in debt

HotS balance aside. I think the main reason there are less terrans are because of the last WoL season being only 1 season apart from this one. Give it 1-2 more seasons and the lesser zergs will drop out and the better terrans will get back in.
In my opinion there were also a lot of terran players who left to another Scene. Teaja, MVP and Ryung, who were Code S regulars come to mind. From the other races only Hero left who was in Code A.
They left because they know they don't stand a chance in Korea anymore.
They left because they are on teams that can afford to send them to another region where It's easier to make money, that's all there is to it.

And wow, that actually was WC3 style micro for once, despite the fact Paralyze is hardly a WC3 player.

Down on their knees and beg their LoL masters.
Made me smile. Still think you should get banned for such Lol comments on these forums

I was wondering that too. Maybe they just had to make a decision, not being able to afford both WCS and DH.
And wow, that actually was WC3 style micro for once, despite the fact Paralyze is hardly a WC3 player.
But why would you plan your budget for something so uncertain? Until less than a week ago they didn't even know if they were going to be in Premier, and It's still not confirmed that they will be able to make the ro16. It seems silly to say " sorry DRG I know you've given us tons of wins and exposure in the past but we can't send you to DH because there's a possibility that we'll need to use the money to pay for Tails and Finale's flights. "
Well maybe that is how it happened, but it seems weird. If I had to guess I think they just don't know that they have to pay their own way to Germany. Hopefully we don't have forfeits happening next season like Violet did.

Byun was winning all his games then fucked it up vs Symbol which prevented Jaedong from moving into code S. This time around he's losing all of them, then going to win the one we don't want him to

To be fair, Afrotoss didn't feedback the vipers.
he did, but way too late. vipers can cast blinding cloud from behind and templar need to keep their distance cuz of fungal/ultra. need some theorycrafting and testing how to beat that properly
//edit: no, afaik it does not affect air units. however against tempests who do like no damage for their cost against corrupters it's really not necessary.

That's actually how I think it happened, haha. Explains why DRG was signed up at first, but had to back out.
I guess they realised the price of going to Germany, or had money allocated to DRG's trip until the other players qualified for Premier. Yeah it's definitely a really silly thing if that's the case, but maybe slightly less silly than the option of them not realising the price of WCS Premier league yet. >_>

At the exact moment when it was time to send people in Europe, Super looked very good... Probably good enough in their eyes that he could start to perform well even in Korea.

He's looked shaky in group stages all the time. The endless tie breaker was against go.go and shine. Like seriously? go.go and shine? In 2010? Finalists typically stomp players like that.

It's not really fair, just saves time. Three people got the same number of wins and only one advances despite losing to people the others beat. The only fair method for a three way tie is playing more games.
Terrans get fewer and fewer with each GSL as expected after all the whining. Protoss and Zergs are almost equal in numbers. And David Kim still wants to buff Protoss...Except Innovation and Flash all the other Terrans are mediocre with no chance whatsoever to win a GSL. Protoss players will eliminate Terrans then they will lose to Zergs. There is a very big probability that the next GSL champion will be a Zerg again.

How is it NOT fair. Say me and you are both 2-2 and I already beat you. Why should I have to beat you AGAIN to move on? Especially in this case, where effort already beat those two.

Paralyze beat the best player in the group whereas Effort didn't. They have the same W:L ratio. That's why it's not particularly fair.

I've been a prophet since Hots beta. I understood then that the new Terran units are gimmicky and they will get figured out soon. Already Zerg and Protoss players know how to properly defend drops.

No, it's fair than your case, if the best player lose to someone intentionally when he know he will advance. That would not be fair. Though it's not the case for today.

Exactly. And there's luck involved. There's a reason games aren't played Bo1 other than in Up&Downs. If beating someone once was enough to prove you're better whenever in the final game in group play players who played each other faced off again the guy who won the first time would be given an automatic walk over, but obviously we don't do that.

Nothing is 100% fair. Even if a BO100 was played by every players pair in the group, luck and tiebreaker can still happen.
And tiebreaker is more unfair in today's situation, because Effort already beat both of them, why should there be a tiebreaker?

Because there is such a thing as luck involved, and he lost to players they couldn't beat. I mean did you see his game versus Super? The reason super lost is fail recall and no cannons at his nat being the thing that forced that fail recall. By your logic all games should be played Bo1.
On June 06 2013 21:38 illidanx wrote: so how many kespa and how many esf in code S?
Funnily, Terran and Zerg are exactly at 50/50, and two more kespa Protosses (surprise). Of course, if you stay true to the kespa vs esf "lore" about BW players vs SC2 players, then Parting counts as esf, which makes all races exactly equally distributed. But I´m sure someone will figure out a way to get some kind of rage out of it.
The way the tiebreaker is set up is you take the tied players and put them in a minipool. in that minipool, effort is 2-0, super is 1-1, and paralyze is 0-2. that's just the way the rules are.

tiebreaker rules are always a reason for complaining. They both know the rule beforehand and both had equal chances so you can say it's fair no matter what. head to head score between tied players is the only effective option in these small groups and I think it's fine really. There is a point to be made that games against the top players or the bottom should be less important because they are often played with less on the line.

You're being a baby and taking what I said way out of proportion. I said luck is too much for one game, then you take that out of proportion suggesting that because of my theory on luck we should play Bo10001. And you've changed the subject from the fact their wins and losses we're even.

Explain how it's fair.
How is it NOT fair. Say me and you are both 2-2 and I already beat you. Why should I have to beat you AGAIN to move on? Especially in this case, where effort already beat those two.
Paralyze beat the best player in the group whereas Effort didn't. They have the same W:L ratio. That's why it's not particularly fair.
tiebreaker rules are always a reason for complaining. They both know the rule beforehand and both had equal chances so you can say it's fair no matter what. head to head score between tied players is the only effective option in these small groups and I think it's fine really. There is a point to be made that games against the top players or the bottom should be less important because they are often played with less on the line.
Just because they both knew the rules doesn't make it fair. It's not like there was an alternative tournament where there wasn't a head to head rule. It's like if I made a tournament where the loser was thrown off a cliff, would that be fair because everyone knew the rules before they signed up?

Exactly. And there's luck involved. There's a reason games aren't played Bo1 other than in Up&Downs. If beating someone once was enough to prove you're better whenever in the final game in group play players who played each other faced off again the guy who won the first time would be given an automatic walk over, but obviously we don't do that.
You make it sound like there's no luck involved in a Bo3. That's pretty funny actually.
Maybe we should play a Best of [x], and let them play until the best player is ahead in the series? Of course, we would have come to you before the match to ask you who the best player is.

Tiebreaker is more unfair, because Effort already beat both of them, why should there be a tiebreaker?
Because there is such a thing as luck involved, and he lost to players they couldn't beat. I mean did you see his game versus Super? The reason super lost is fail recall and no cannons at his nat being the thing that forced that fail recall. By your logic all games should be played Bo1.
If you say luck is not fair, then you can play BO1001 for every sereis, it's still not gonna be 100% fair.
You're being a baby and taking what I said way out of proportion. I said luck is too much for one game, then you take that out of proportion suggesting that because of my theory on luck we should play Bo10001. And you've changed the subject from the fact their wins and losses we're even.
Luck is always part of game, every champion is lucky in someway. If you are lucky, you deserve to advance.

Discussing shit like tiebreaker rules in a LR thread after it happened makes you look like an angry fanboy. I'm not saying anyone is an angry fanboy, but this isn't the place to have that discussion. If it really matters to someone, they should wait a couple of days to cool down and make a reasoned thread about it.
Otherwise it very much looks like "waaaah my player lost, change the rules!"

No, bringing it up after it happens makes you look like an angry fanboy. And jumping to conclusions doesn't help either.
Like I said, you'll convince no-one here. If you really feel strongly, make a thread in a couple of days when the dust has settled. I think in general you'll struggle to convince anyone, but hey, go ahead.
To take a random example: when watching football (soccer) with my dad, he'll have angry outbursts to decisions he views as bad on the spot, but in a couple of days he'll see that the decision was correct even though it was against his team.

Lol? CJ Entus is one my favorite teams. My Twitch handle is hitesparkyz and I don't even like MVP, who've had like 4 players now not succeed in the Up & Downs. But an unfair win for my player is just as bad as an unfair loss. Don't assume I'm doing this from some misguided fanboyism for Super. The problem of head to head tiebreakers persists no matter who advances. I just didn't know GSL used them until now.

How is it fair to the guy who already won head to head?? If both of them have the same score and he beat him 1v1 once already, there is no point in playing another match between both of them since he already beat him o.o

A head to head victory is only 1 piece of information that indicates 1 player is stronger than the other. At the same time Paralyze was able to overcome an opponent (Curious, who came first) which Effort was unable to. This information would indicate Paralyze is stronger, if looked at in isolation. Looking at the overall win/loss record takes into account multiple results and gives a good measure of overall performance. Looking at head to head to determine the result seems like arbitrary data cherry picking.
While I don’t think head to head is ideal, I accept it, as I see it exists not to be fair, but to be a practical solution to a time restriction.
Head to head is a great system that has been around for ages. Deal with it. There is literally nothing wrong with it and one guy complaining in a LR thread will change nothing.

Try reading some other posts before jumping in with a massive generalisation and dismissing people who've actually given it some thought. The U&D tiebreak system is not a particularly fair way of doing it but if they don't want to run additional games, more often, then there's no truly fair way of breaking a tie. H2H works great in some formats but in this instance it doesn't. I'm happy Effort advanced but U&D's has always been a crapshoot with Bo1's and an arbitrary tiebreak method.

H2H talk always comes up in tie breaker talks. It's fair and the best way. It's used in north American sports and we have the best sports and rules. :p

Great post
I don't agree this argument, winning strongest player doesn't mean he is better since the strongest player may already advance, so as to winning weakest player in the group, I am not saying it's always the case, but it happens. That's the major reason why we only count H2H result when tiebreaking. It seems to me it's more fair. And I didn't see much difference between SC2 and other sports games from this perspective.

I know you're using fake logic to prove your point, but the fake logic you're using doesn't actually work. If Effort beats Byun and goes 3-1 instead of 2-2, there's no tiebreaker, but Paralyze has still beaten Curious. This information is relevant in the match-up between Curious and Paralyze, but that match-up doesn't (and shouldn't) matter here.
A group's results are a combination of several good and bad results. You can't just look at one of the good results and tell "hey, this doesn't work, someone has one good result and yet he doesn't get through.", because on one side there's the good things he made and on the other there's the bad things he made, and they equalize.

Let's say that three players are tied in mapscore. Only one of these players can advance. How do you determine who advances? You have tiebreakers where one of those players must beat the other two. In last night's case, Effort had already beat the other two players.

Yes Parting and Major are Kespa. No, MVP Nestea ForGG are not.
How is this even debatable?
Oh "training". HuK is Korean right?
So EG-TL is Kespa now because of coach park right? Kespa just won WCS AM, good to know.
EG-TL aren't part of the Kespa organisation, so no.

That's so stupid, so EffOrt has the same score but because he got lucky he advances. You caould make the arguement Paralyze and Super shoudl advance because they beatr players EffOrt didn't. Obviously whoever made this head to head rule has never heard of rock paper scissorts or luck or making small mistakes.
head to head is a very common and fair tiebreaker method, the only time there are complaints are when the fan favourite or something doesn't advance lol

The point I was trying to make here as that looking at individual match-up results in isolation isn't ideal and is cherry picking. But we should however look at the overall win/loss of the night and not give additional emphasis on a randomly selected result (ie head to head or who beat the stronger player). Based on this I see Paralyze, Effort and Super are tied at the end of the night. I wasn't trying to say that Paralyze should have been selected over effort because of his win over Curious.
"You can't just look at one of the good results and tell "hey, this doesn't work, someone has one good result and yet he doesn't get through."". I totally agree, that was the idea I was trying to convey. I see looking at head to head as an example of looking at one particular result and not considering the bigger picture.

I see this as both fair and practical.
In that case, Effort's head to head win is already counted for, it changed his position from being behind to being tied. To then upgrade his position from tied to ahead of those with the same mapscore would be to double count the value of the head to head win. Basically what I'm trying to get across is that a head to head win should be worth as much as any other win in the big scheme of things, in my opinion.

This is correct. There is no logical reason head to head should count for more than a win against other players. Why should Super's and Paralyze's wins against the opponents that Effort did not beat count for less? That is a totally arbitrary reason to determine who advances. I know its used in other competitions as well but that doesn't make it any more valid. They only do that to save time. Yes its a rule that everyone has agreed to, that's why there is no controversy. But from a fairness point of view, it doesn't make sense.
Sad to see Afrotoss not advance, especially after going 2-0 to start off. I much prefer effort advancing though between those two. With that said, why did effort go one of the worst styles ive seen pro korean zergs do in an important patch vs Byun? More importantly still, why do zergs go that style AT ALL? I can't remember a game it won to be honest. We knew from wings that roaches are bad against bio with stim and upgrades and hydras barely change that equation at all...Byun was a mess in this group and any even reasonably good style would have crushed him but effort picked a steaming pill of crap as a style.

The difference is that the match-ups between Super, Paralyze and Effort actually hold weight in the equation, because they are the people who are tied in points. We are trying to decide which of Super, Paralyze and Effort "deserves" (obv not trying to say the others have no merit, you know what I mean) the most to get through, and the only way to do it is to focus on their match-ups. That's exactly what a tiebreaker is, a focus on their match-ups. Which brings me to, no, I wouldn't agree that looking at effort vs Paralyze (tied players) has the same level of relevance as looking at Curious vs Paralyze (non-tied players). Even more, I'd say that presenting the two match-ups as equal is an excellent example of not seeing the bigger picture.

I don't understand it either, at least against Bio. Even though Bel'shir is the best map to use it on, even though Effort played better overall, once Byun survived the first few waves I knew he was going to win.
It is really straightforward, it does have a window of time in which it's very powerful, and it's an easy transition out of defending hellions/hellbat drops.
But you're very vulnerable to drops, it hurts your ultralisk transition, and even in power the terran quickly catches up and will overpower you once he has the tank and medivac numbers.

There's nothing fake about Aphid's logic, it's just your grasp of logic that's shaky. All information is relevant, picking any single game as being more important than the others, without the player's foreknowledge, is unfair. They are tied and you're still using a very arbitrary way of advancing one despite doing just as well in the group.

They are equal, a W:L of bo1's vs players in the group. Just because you happen to tie with the person who beat you shouldn't mean you had to beat 2 players the guy lost to.
A slightly fairer method would be legacy tiebreakers. Where players dropping from Code S advance over those rising from Code A. H2H only gives the illusion of fairness and saves time on extra games.
