I have a hard time feeling, anything really about these matches. The games themselves are decent enough but they're virtually meaningless. Both players go to the up and downs and its not like they're far enough into the bracket that the winner's next match is to get into code S.

Derrr what? That's exactly the same as the Korean Code A. Majority of the bottom Code A players don't have a shot at Code S.
Even top players will end up getting taken out. You have a really bad attitude towards these games but the reason you put up isn't a good one.

imo it's really a meta build - a lot of zergs are trying to deal with gateway expand 4gate pressure with pure ling because the gateway expand doesn't have +1 attack - so top gets more gateways and pumps some sentries. interesting response, hope to see more of Top and his weird builds.

No it actually is not. Korean code A you lose first round you go through the hell that is code A qualifiers. Eu/AM code A you lose first round you go into U&D groups and thats the only place you can get eliminated from code S or A. It is significantly different

EDIT: Its also not about "would they fare in code S". its about they're playing a match where the winner goes to code S. In this case these games are to go to the round of 24 that is, identical in every way to this round with just less players

EDIT 2: eliminated as in out of WCS, obviously coming in 3rd or 4th in any group means you drop from S --> A

I dont like how WCS AM and EU are designed to only drop 8 players from the challenger to their "code b"
I think they should just drop half the players like in GSL. Gives more people opportunities to play

No. If you lose in 1st round of Code A, you drop out of the GSL completely, the games have so much more weight, it's life and death.

I'm slightly concerned about the format. With only 8 players dropping out of Challenger league per season, I wonder if Code A NA will get stale from players pulling an Ensnare and taking up a challenger spot season after season. After all, it's now possible to go 1-3 in Bo3 sets and stay in Code A.

Someone theorized it was because a lack of depth in player pool across the NA and EU regions. I personally think that's bullshit but who knows. I know I mentioned it in the last thread but it seriously feels like its easier to stay in than it is to drop out. That only encourages complacency and doesn't really HELP the scene. Imagine if everyone who lost today needed to go back and train again for next season. Sure some players might retire or whatever but the ones that stay will be even better players.

I think they made the format like this because they were afraid of popular players dropping out.

You could possibly make that argument about the American playerpool because it does seem to lack a lot of depth. However, I think that it hurts it from growing if there's less of an opportunity to do something. I could be wrong, too. There could be more depth but we just never see it because the American scene doesnt have as my weekly tournaments and stuff going on as EU. I think EU has quite a bit of depth though that could make it interesting. I could see how it could be boring if it was a low depth region and it was just the same players qualifying each time. idk. Maybe things will change if it doesn't work out. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

also a realistic possibility. Imagine if more koreans had qualified and done better and just knocked out like 10 popular foreigners in the first season. Could be bad for viewing numbers
